Since I pre-ordered from Direct2Drive, I have no choice (but at least I saved 20%). I will play for the first 30 days, but the game isn't worth subscribing to with its current quality of community.
I dont see why anyone has to drop their mmo for GW2... it's not monthly pay after all.
Well, time constraints.
I find that i don't have a lot of time to really devote to playing many games. I'm trying to whittle my games down to only a few so that I can make the most of them.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
I guess graphics are subjective but I can not understand how you think of any those games you listed look better than Rift,
FFXIV is arguable. Some parts of it are clearly better but for the most part it's not that great looking of a game. It mostly suffers due to poor world design. the cut and paste graphics really hurt it overall.
Age of conan and vanguard both defininately look better than rift. Absolutely no contest at all. The textures are higher res and the world design is much nicer in both games. Rift has muddy low res looking textures and most of the world looks low poly like wow. I don't see how anyone with eyes could think rift looks better than AOC or vanguard. Art style preference is one thing but just based purely on the graphics themselves both of these games are definately superior.
I think rift is right on part with games like wow and aion. Low res models, low res textures made for old machines.
eq2 is debateable, it's looking pretty dated but in some spots in can be gorgeous. I didn't see one single thing in rift that made me gow "wow" graphics wise. The castle in qeynos for the first time is a wow moment.

Keeping my preorder, but yeah the community on the official boards is garbage. In the betas I haven't seen it quite so bad.
I cancelled my preorder after a week of getting into alpha. I can honestly say that I've never been so bored with a mmo title in my life. Next gen my ass.
I ordered the CE from Trion and cancelled two days ago.
After each beta event and became more and more bored with the game. There are many reasons why I ended up going from being absolutely pumped about Rift to being uncommonly bored with Rift. Suffice it to say, it is very well polished, runs easily on an average PC, but it offers nothing to make me actually want to log in and play.
In the end, it made me reinstall Vanguard and I'll be hoping into the Everquest Progression server
2) BEST GRAPHICS on maxed ultra setting of any game in the history of the industry.
3) BEST Beta Bug respose turn around and fixes in the history of the industry.
4) BEST ability of a dev team to actually listen to the players in the history of the industry,
5) BEST Class/skills system in the history of the industry.
6) BEST CS in the history of the industry.
Thanks for the laughs.
FFXIV,Aion and AoC have better graphics.
Best class/skill system in the history of the industry? LOL.
ITs graphics are actually on par with the games you listed. They aren't the best but they are tied with the best in the industry. And as the class system goes that all subjective to the individual. I personally love the system.
Rift graphics are only on par with Aion.
FFXIV and AoC have much better graphics, simple as that.
Depends on the system, and the settings from my experience. Rift hasn't gone with bleeding edge graphics, for much the same reason that WoW doesn't. It makes it playable on much more of the installed hardware base. As for FFXIV and AoC... We've seen what advantage their high end graphics have given them, as far as retaining player subscriptions, now haven't we?...

Some MMO:s fail because graphics are to good, IMO. It makes no difference how inredible and awsome the graphics look if it makes the game impossible to play with more than 10 players on the screen at the same time.
Developers need to be less ambitous regarding graphics quality I think...
If you want to discover how good your new high end graphics card is its better to play some of the latest single player games.

I almost cancelled.. The community of Rift is not what many think.. To me it has come off to be a very arrogant, rash, and sometimes downright ignorant.. Many of them will attack you and are sure to include insulting words like "idiot", "dumbass", "moron", but as soon as you respond with daggers of your own, they plug their ears like children and scream so they can't hear you..
This is the case in-game and on their forums as well.. It's a pretty combative community, and while not everyone is guilty of doughebaggery, you will encounter it pretty often..
I am pretty sure I am on just about half of the forum's block lists right now and almost just said "screw it.." and tried one of those indy games (like Xsyon or Earthrise)..
But, I won't give them that satisfaction!
Still on track for open beta, will stick with the decent folks on my server and when release comes around, I will just leave the forums alone alltogether..
Two pre-orders being kept, here (one digital and one boxed CE). Looking very forward to launch, as it has delivered on its promises and developer feedback/response is excellent.
Keeping both pre-orders and anxious for the next Beta. Rift has the substance and more... that past betas and/or releases I've encountered have missed. No waiting a year for first-released and/or QA-lacking raid and group content.
In addition, I like:
Polished and relatively bug free.
In place end-game content at release with plans for adding more content shortly after release.. and then again more within 90 days.
Devolopers and community leaders that are actively involved with the community, who chew through suggestions and feedbacks and actually respond to them. (Which is impressive because the forums there seem to be crazy busy this last week)
Plethora of activities that will keep me busy whether it is, Questing, Crafting, PVP (warfronts), PVP Open World, Grouping, Raiding, Public grouping (new to me and finding I am enjoying it)
Fantasy MMO without the pop culture extreme addons or artwork.
Community gameplay immersive.
Graphics Open world - NPC and environment graphics are impressive.
Minimal bulwarking of levels or grind as your character and content progresses.
Unfinished content, overbugged content, non-existant QA, and lack of developer communication/involvement is what I've seen most guilds/players leaving over shortly after release. Rift does not appear to have those challenges. It has all the meat -n- potatoes covered that indicate it will be a long-term game for me. Only time will tell though...

I agree, Trion has done EVERYTHING right in regard to launching this game. It's polished, very few bugs even in beta, great developer communication etc. However, the game is completely lacking in the things that I like in an MMO. It is linear and on rails and it's simply not for me and I'm grateful I had the beta experience and the opportunity to cancel my order before I paid out some dough for the game.
I've played SOOO many MMOs and only two have given me that 'oh my god I love this game and can't log off feeling'. Vanguard and Everquest.

I hate these kind of sweeping statements. The community isn't garbage, it is mixed. I just found the thread The Unofficial Old School Server and was pretty impressed that it was 90 pages long.

Strap, all I have seen on their official boards for the past week is a slew of trolls, and more PvP tears than I've ever seen in more than a decade of gaming. I can't judge the true community on that because what I saw in chat while playing the betas was much better. It remains to be seen what the true community (even on the official boards) will be like until Trion locks them down to subscribers only.
I'm keeping my CE pre-order (hard copy, so I get all the goodies, flash drive etc), but at present I'm more excited about the upcoming release of the EQ TLP server than the launch of Rift. I'm going to play my 30 days in between EQ sessions and see how I feel at the end of the 30 days. I enjoyed Rift more playing in short bursts, i.e. around a hour or two during the beta. Any longer I started to get a bit bored. If I get a few days worth of entertainment out of Rift, it will be money well spent. The only problem, I cannot see myself playing over the long haul.
IMO Rift is a good game, not great but decent enough to waste a few hours.

given the obsurd nature of his comments about the graphics and how few posts he has...i smell some viral marketing.
Keeping mine and signing up for the 6month deal. after 6 months...if i am still playing, i will do it again, if not...it dies.
So far/ so good
