I really had high hopes for this game.  I believe Trion would finally have the break through in mmo market that engage on vets like myself but I was wrong.  It's turns out that Trion doesn't believe in their concept of their own game at all.  We could go down the list from server types to all the way to female's clothing.  Once someone makes a campaign thread, Trion caves in to there demands.  I don't know who is really designing this game Trion or the rift community?  This game is going to fail with the first 6 months because Trion takes too much stock in what the player base thinks.  Asking who is really running the ship?

The first was the server type.  Why can't Trion just release their verison of a server type and let the community react after the fact.  This worked in Daoc, they had one type of server with was normal, after a while they release a co op server and full pvp server.  they did that without destroying the player base.  Maybe if Trion would of came out and said what a normal type of server was, then maybe there wouldn't be some much confusion.  I'm not really against either pvp or pve server but I would be nice to have normal server that implimented both first before release other types.

The second more mind boggling thing is female clothing.  This has turning into a full out war.  The gripe of female showing too much skin with their armor.  I have to be honest and say I never notice this since I don't pay too much attendation to the armor that my character is wearing.  In fact I don't believe anyone does, but that is just my opinion.  Turns out that there is small group of people that want to have an option to cover their character skin.  My first reaction was what is really behind this, it turns out to be a emotional out cry because of their moral code that they want to keep.  I saw threw this as religious christians trying impose their will on fictional fantasy game.(which I'll never understand why their playing this one)  My first thought was this is Trion art direction if you don't like it, its a free country buy a game with the art direction you like.  Kind of like buying a dress, if someone doesn't like the dress don't you return it?  Why would anyone keep the dress and bitch at the designer?  I could go on all day but I won't here.

Third, allowing dual server.  This is what really got me up and arms.  Trion didn't bother to make sure that players can't play for both sides on the same server.  This just makes my blood boil.  Mainly because If company makes a game based on teams.  Why in the Fuck would game desiger allow players to play for both sides?  It destroys pvp content all together.  Players shouldn't be allowed to play on both sides for any reason.  Its like having Kobe Bryant play for the LA and Boston in a championship match.  It just stupid.  Please someone explain that one to me.

Fourth thing, oh yes Dungeon finder.  I can't believe Trion allow this crap before the game has even started.  Let me note that I'm not totally against this feature but I do hate the idea of it.  Why you ask?  Well my number one reason is mainly how the community will behave.  I would support a dungeon finder only allowed players that have a quest related to the dungeon only and it would have to be server only not cross.  I understand why this feature is need but since Trion pretty much it possible for 3 out of the 4 class have the ability to have tank specs or heal why add this feature? In other games, mainly WoW, this feature turns the communities on any server into lobby area making the game feel like single player game.  What incentive will any player have if they don't have to mingle with the players on the server.  And in this game they pretty much gave every class four specs and they still need dungeon finder?  its just a joke.  Rogues can even tank so finding a group can't be that hard.  The next request will be for raid finder.

Lastly, Dps meters.  lol lol lol.  This lastest request I know that Trion will cave on, will once again make rift feel like wow.  The idea that a player sucks just because don't support or don't do enough damage on a boss is just silly.  The silly are argument that anyone will hear are, "I have to know what everyone is doing" I don't want to carry anyone" and my favorite one, "its a way to kick the sucky players out" (let me laugh for a moment here........lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol) In a game where there are infinite amount of builds and Trion allowing players to build their character how ever they want.  WTF do you know about dps?  What makes you think that a dps meter will help you?  I also find it funny that with google, youtube, fansites, and boss encounter sites that they still need dps meter.(lol lol lol lol lol)  The most important thing in any raid is that the players know the fights.  if the players don't know the fight, it won't matter about dps meter. Is it really hard to learn the fights and teach it to group of people?  I mean come on.  What happen to learning how to make friends and having resources?  Learning the encounters in a raid takes more skills than knowing what a dps meter is.  Dps meter can't tell anyone if players knows the encounters.   So why use it again?

In summary I would like to say that more and more I feel that rift is turning on a game I played before.  If I get that feeling i'm pretty sure others are too.  I don't understand why we can't let Trion tryout their vision for the game first.  Not everything that the communty suggests is a good thing.  At best Trion job is to produce the content and my job is play the content.  That is pretty much it.  Trion makes the rules and we follow the rules not the other way around. With major part of the community coming from WoW and asking for wow feature, this will ruin the game before it gets off the ground.  It's really sad that Trion can't stick with their vision of the game.  I paid my 6 months but Trion keeps listening to the community bad ideas then this game will fail by the time my sub is up.(worst thing ever F2p.  God I don't want that to happen)  It will have nothing to do with other games coming out, than it has to do with Trion losing control of their game.

I don't even know where to begin with your post.

    1. Of course Trion believe in their concept. Stating otherwise is nonsense.

    2. DAoC listened too much to it's community. Stating otherwise is nonsense or selective memory take your pick. In fact they were notorious for bowing down to whiners.

    3. You spend time explaining how you don't care about how the armor looks on women. Then in detail explain how it bothers you that somebody want to cover up female skin. Uhm if you don't care??. Maybe you should reword the care part.

    4. Then you speculate on how Trion "may" add dps meters because it's a hot topic right now. Isn't is a premature to whine about something that hasn't happened and may never happen?

    4. Then you whine about cross server dungeon finder, even though NOBODY has confirmed this will be in the game.

You need to stop going on the forums. You can't handle it

There's a Dungeon Finder? AWESOME! Now I don't have to walk around before checking my DPS in the meters and switching sides during PvP conflict!

    * edit *
I could do without the dps meters and I think a full on dungeon finder would be a mistake given how physically small the world is. That said, maybe at end game, a dungeon finder would make sense. Who knows.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

And next complaint off someone is trion dont listen to there community when they dont get their way.no  offence m8 give the game a chance.

So basically what you did was read a lot of posts, by a lot of people, who have their own idea about what Rift should be. You then made the assumption that Trion will go about implementing these features. You then made the assumption that Trion will implement these features the same way that Blizzard did with WoW.

I started howling about the dangers of cross realming 6 months ago on the RIFT forums. All I got was Ignored by Trion....and agued with by some who want to play "I win" by playing the character on the  dominant pvp side. This is one of many reasons I won't be playing the game.

Other than battlegrounds what else does the game have that's cross realm? Could you link something?

I actually haven't heard anything about a dungeon finder.  I think i heard a Trion dev say that they 'could' easily implement one if they wanted. They just haven't decided if they wanted to yet.

However i do believe they'll add dps meters, but again...Trion has not said they will.

You can't judge a company that has stated that they're still deciding on the features, and will only implement them if they feel that they're a good idea.  When they add these features, feel free to complain. But they haven't, so how can you hold against them something they 'might' do?

  • gFizgFiz Member Posts: 153

interesting new twist...fault the company for listening to it's suscribers.  /sigh

When it comes down to it, they're going to implement the features they believe will bring them the most money.  That means features that will appeal to the largest number of people.

No matter what feature it is, some douchebag will cry about it.

the only thing trion has changed(and they dispute it by saying they always inteded it this way) was the server ruleset and what happens on a pvp server and what happens on a pve server.

there is no "normal server" in trions eyes.

they have pve, pvp, rp-pve and rp-pvp.

for those who dont know, all of the betas the opposing factions quest hubs wre attackable. in beta 6 they made them unatackable to the opposing faction and they added higher level guards.

now for the pvp servers they are making the quest hubs attackable again and keeping those guard npcs the levels they were.

Trion has stated(beleive them or not) that they did it this way on purpose. they first had to test how it was with the hubs attackable. then they had to find out how it went with them not attackable. after doing this they are going with attackable for pvp server, and non attackable for pve servers.

that pretty much takes care of your first gripe

2- you yourself say its a small group. I have seen a total of 2 threads reguarding this in the few months ive been beta testing Rift.

so how is this a "full out war"?

    {Mod edit}

3-I have seen a few posts reguarding this recently and trion did allow this diring beta. to my knowledge(and i may be wrong) they havent said if it will be one way or the other come release.

I do, however, agree that if they allow you to play both factions on the same pvp server it is a mistake

4- umm...how can they allow it before the game releases? you would prob be the same person asking how they could implement it without first testing it if they just threw it in there upon release.

a dungeon find, aslong as its only 1 server, is a good thing IMO. if you make it cross server then its bad.

as it stands now its only on each individual server.

5- rage over yet? take a deep breath yet? so you just "know" theyre going to allow dps meters?

you the almighty seeing eye know it all?

in summary of your summary you know little to nothing of what you speak of.

    {Mod edit}

you made 1 valid point out of 5 and that hinges on what trion has yet to decide seeing as they havent yet commented about it

The game isn't over, it'll go down like almost every other mmo in the past 6 years... starts out with a large following and dwindles to nothing in the space of 1-3 months. They may actually keep subs longer by listening to WoW fanbois because guess what.... there are a lot more of them than there are of you, and in the end its about what will bring in the most money.

I won't even begin to guess what the subs will look like a month or so after release, but I know there is a lot of hype about this game, like all other new shiny mmos. They come, they go, on to the next one. Some just sell more boxes than others. Imo, smart move on their part appealing to the wow fanbois who are getting bored of their Cataclysm now that its 6 months down the road. It may actually earn them some money for a few months.

I for one played the beta for one day and uninstalled, hated the energy/combo point system, but my roommates are die hard fans. (One of which hasn't played wow in over a year, the other recently quit.) I say why remake a game to be like WoW when you can just go play the original.

If they can make the changes you are saying they are, and adapt it into their own style, then they will keep fans around for some time. Like it or not, WoW catered to its fans for many years, and thats the reason its the juggernaut it is, and why so many people compare other games to it. Make a game that uses WoW's UI conveniences, that has updated graphics, with a  new spin on combat mechanics, an exciting storyline, and an evolving endgame that keeps people playing after hitting level cap, and you'll make money.

The farther away from "the norm" that you try to make a game, making it original, the more risk you take in fencing out players who aren't looking for that kind of thing, but the more of a chance you have of the game succeeding in the long run if your ideas are taken well by the community. On the other hand, the closer to "the norm" that you make a game, players will be able to relate easier, and will want to pick up the game at least once to try it out. However, you will lose those subs in a month or two due it being a "WoW clone" in their eyes.

Finding a happy medium between player convenience (what they are used to), originality, and the ability to keep someone's attention focused on your game after the initial glamour has worn off is something gaming companies have been trying to do for years, and no one has succeeded. I don't blame them for taking ideas from one of the most successful MMO's in recent times and using it to their advantage. It would be stupid not to, but it would be stupid to take too much.

So let me get this straight....Trion shouldn't listen to the community or what they want but they should just listen to YOU and what YOU want?.

    Makes sense.

Let me put it another way,

Trion should only listen to their community when the community says 'don't listen to us'.....i think i got it.

It's true there is a lot of crazy in the OPs post but there's a good message hidden in the middle of the madness. I too believe a company should stay true to their vision and not listening too much to the audience except for things that simply don't work.

Gamers are a fickled bunch. They will often ask for things that doesn't work well in practice, or end up getting what they asked for to begin with and regretting it.

Because something sounds great in the head, doesn't mean it should be added.

There are so many points to make that I can't be bothered. This was a wierd read to say the least.

    Playing: PO, EVE
    Waiting for: WoD
Favourite MMOs: VG, EVE, FE and DDO
Any person who expresses rage and loathing for an MMO is preposterous. He or she is like a person who has put on full armor and attacked a hot fudge sundae.

The problem here is the OP is implying that Trion is implementing every desire by every delusional fan. Which of course is not the case or ever could be the case. I have not seen Trion do one thing that wasn't to better the game for everyone. Arguing about dps meters and cross server groups is really nitpicking since most games with enough money would implement those things. This post comes across as just rambling since I didn't hear him make one arguement that was supported by anything close to a fact.

If you look at who is posting about Female Armor it's the same 5-6 people, soon as there thread gets old they start another post about it...  The Rift forums definitely need some moderators on there...

A lot of the crap going on at the official forums is just bored people wanting to start nonsense arguments.

As for the female armor it's really only the warrior's that look skimpy at first, once you start doing dungeons the armor sets don't reveal much, like I said before its a non-issue.... People are bored waiting for the game so there going to start up trouble to pass the time..

I think Rift will do fine in the MMO World... sure it's not the perfect game I would like but it's good enough to have fun in...  Once you get past the starter areas which are boring like every other MMO out there it starts to get fun.

This. If you happen to be in the minority group that likes or dislikes certain features, too bad. Bottom line, if losing subscription from one player like you gains them 50 or allows them to hold back 50 subs, they will do it. Pray you arent the minority with regards to your likes/dislikes or just find another game.
