WoW players leaving for Rift ?

LobotomistLobotomist Member EpicPosts: 5,981

I noticed lot of talk of entire guilds leaving WoW for Rift ?

Now...i dont play WoW. I must admit one of big reasons is the community that clings to this game.

Actually I kind of secretly loved the WoW for the fact it was rotten community magnet.

Well apparently no more..

Now it seems this community is moving to Rift ...

Example from last round of beta. I joined PUG for a dungeon ( i know )

When we got wiped by dungeon boss. And I told them that it can not be done with current party. They called me a noob.

And that they going to show me how the pros do it. Ok.. I decided to stick with the show. To see how pros do it ;)

Truth is that pros got wiped , and wiped and wiped. At least 6 times.

And than they simply quit group - no word.

When i asked them what happened? The one that graced me with the answer. Said : "You are gay homo."

And than he put me on ignore.

...

Now I never had such experience playing Vanguard, or LOTRO, or any other MMO except WoW.

I know this was exception. But I am afraid it can be the sign of the community that is transfering to Rift...

You are basing this on an encounter with a team of "pro's" that called you gay, wat?

Every new big MMO always has guilds chomping at the bit to quit WoW and reroll said MMO to conquer it - In reality it rarely happens.

I doubt everyone is like that. Was in countless groups that was positive at heart and very helpful. And they didnt give up either nice feeling when you really have to concentrate to make it work.

I guess you just had some bad luck.

And yes I am leaving WoW for Rift until something more intressting comes along. If I play any more WoW I will throw up.

If you are right about this and the "rotten part" of the wow community is going to rift i will leave rift very soon.......the season i left wow last year was the bad community......not the game itself.

....if rift gets a community like wow i will be playing sandbox only soon.......xsyon is my next game then.

But i realy hope you are wrong m8 :)

We're talking about the beta right? Where every random person with zero investment in the game and the server gets to experience the game.

If the same thing persists in the actual game, I'd be worried.

Lets hope they don't implement the dungeon finder and other easy mode stuff so the pro's can't handle it and stay away.

I think every new and old game will stil have those buttheads who either are boozed up or just  always out for a fight. Stick with it and im sure you will run into more decent folk than you could imagine.  Me personally , I would have wiped 3 times and just clicked out of the group. When people start chucking around hateful comments , its time to go.

Isn't the term "Pro", only used in a video game setting by 12 year olds?

Now couple the word "Pro" and add to it WoW...

    The obvious answer is obvious.

  • sephersepher Member Posts: 3,561

Welcome to video games and anonymity on the internet.

Whether they come from WoW or not, you're going to find bad seeds like that in Rift and any other MMO. It may be less evident in MMOs like Vanguard, but that's probably due to the fact everyone is pretty much on one server so reputation matters more.

The only way around random asshatery is to limit your play time with randoms. Most people are good, even in WoW, but only takes 1 crazy to ruin it for the rest. Find a good guild and all will be well.

My brother in laws entire raid guild is going to Rift. About 70 active hardcore players and 30 or so semi-casuals all leaving for Rifts dungeon/raid content. These guys have played wow since before TBC released.

    Playing: Nothing

    Looking forward to: Nothing

In general a fair few people have left WoW of late; I belonged to a relatively casual raiding guild (raided twice a week) which is rapidly disintegrating as more and more players leave the game.  I think WoW is catering more to the new player audience, with its simplifying and easy levelling experience, rather than the players that have played WoW for years.  I would not buy the argument that it is only 10,000 or 100,000 people and that this barely matters - regardless of whether it is few or many people a drop in subs is never a good thing.

Whether they are all on their way to Rift is a different matter.  I believe that many current and 'ex' WoW players will be giving, or have given, Rift a try - just to see if there is anything to it or whether it may entice them away.  Personally, I have cancelled my WoW sub (something which I have done multiple times) and have pre-ordered Rift; you never know there may be a return in a few months, but for the time being I feel like I can give WoW a miss.

I would not brandish Rift as a WoW killer or even, currently, a contender; to do so would be unfair on Rift, which is by no means a Leviathan like WoW.  I believe that the amount of WoW players which are going to alternate games like Rift are doing so not because of the pull of those games but rather due to being discontented.

WoW will solider on for a great many years; but we may have already seen the 'peak' of it's popularity - atleast within the US and EU.

I've been playing WoW for about 4 years now and I'm on the fence about moving to Rift. Sure its new and looks ok enough to play but I think it just depends on what kind of endgame it has, are there raids? if there are...what kind of difficulty can we expect from them? I'd have to really know what kind of endgame Rift has before leaving a game I'm already established in and a guild that is about a week away from starting 25man heroics.

Maybe for me. I already quit WoW after having my arena comp hit 2.5k (WPM) and then become awful from lolheroclasses and whatnot. Balance is just retarded now, especially since Big Blue announced the whole way to December 7th that the TTK would be much higher and PVP would be much more decision based. Lol what?

I keep hearing folks saying I am leaving for game x.  We seen this before every time a new game comes out we see this.

AOC, Warhammer and so forth,  then the forums about a month later the malcontents s how back up.   The same will happen this time. If you ever notice its always the same folks over and over.  With the I rage quit posts, and the im going to gamex posts.

Some folks will go and stay but a lot will go and try it for a couple of months and come back its just the way things work.  It just not wow, but other games like lotro.

It gets old quit, I say let them go you will be better off for it.

If you're having fun, stay where you are. When it's time to move on, you'll know it. Then the real question won't be if you'll leave, but where you'll end up.

I see a lot of guilds leaving WoW to go play Rift at launch, I know I was considering it until I actually got to play it for a while. Sadly once those players realize they aren't getting anything really new or different from WoW, they will head back and pickup where they left off.

My friends list isn't the largest in the world but I also do not take part in how many friends you have competitions.  Having said all that everyone of my gaming friends will be purchasing rift apart from 2 hardcore wow grinder fans.

I guess I'm allright with Wow players coming into Rift. (not much I can do about it :D ) I just hate how the chat is nothing but wow-talk, the topic is like a rotten disease that you can't get rid off.

I'm not so sure, majority of WoW players that i've seen on here seemed to be getting annoyed or just plain fed up with blizzards plans since cataclysm, and some are even realizing a single expansion to briefly extend their playtime just can't hold their attention for as long anymore.

What really ends up happening remains to be seen, but Rift's timing is on target enough to easily pick off more than a few from the WoW flock, if it had gotten into the public's hands any sooner (say before or during cata) than i'm not so sure the WoW-crowd would have any interest, and this game would have just gone by them like dust in the wind.

Unfortunately, this happens with every new MMO.  The scourge of WoW players who hate WoW will flock to the new MMO of the moment.  During that first free month they will continually bash the game for not being WoW..  They will whine, complain, and just act like total jerks the whole time.  They will say things like "WoW is trash, but this game is even worse because it doesn't do X like WoW."  I have seen it happen in every MMO released sinced WoW.  Honestly, it is not contained to just WoW, almost all of Blizzard's games have had a terrible community.  In regards to Battle.net in general, you will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villany.

The good news is after that first free month, the majority of WoW scourge will leave the game and return back to WoW.  They will call the new game a failure because it is not WoW, even though they hate WoW.  It will be a rough first month, but be strong, it will not last.  Just hope during that first month the Devs do not cater too much to their complaints.

Yes we've seen this before and yes most come back to WoW after the initial high wears off. But hundreds and hundreds of thousands are willing to leave WoW for the promise of, well, nuffin really. That says alot imo.

I remember the first couple of months of WAR. They peaked at some 1mil players and its safe to assume most of these came from WoW. Its the only time I've ever seen WoW devs and representatives come out and openly bash another game and pinpointing problems like battleground queues etc (which was idd a problem to some, the very same "problem" WoW had on release... take it as you wish). I know its all about money but I remember thinking surely this is a new low for blizz =P

I dont think we'll see anything like that this time, tho I'm hoping for succes (anything above 400k subs after free month will be succes) or at least enough subs to keep development going. No idea what numbers we're talking there.

People who have long been in one game always try out new releases as they come along.  it doesn't mean they'll stay for the long haul.  I remember people leaving EQ for AO, DAOC, etc but always coming back, as they couldnt sustain the newer games.  I suspect the same for WoW players.  However, this game is so similar to WoW that i'd imagine it'd appeal to those people who love buying the same car in a newer model.

Blizzard has in my opinion ruined it's classes by trying to balance and make the classes fit for arena.

Blizz needs to come to terms and stop this bullshit and realize they can't balance pve and pvp/arena.

They should implement skills that are working for just pvp/arena and have skills for pve only.... this would go a long way in helping solve the class balance problems right now.

I'm fed up with Blizz and how they're handling class balance.

Myself and the little guild that I run have all frozen our accounts and will be giving Rift a try.

    Played: MCO - EQ/EQ2 - WoW - VG - WAR - AoC - LoTRO - DDO - GW/GW2 - Eve - Rift - FE - TSW - TSO - WS - ESO - AA - BD
    Playing: Sims 3 & 4, Diablo3 and PoE
    Waiting on: Lost Ark

I just wanted to add this:

I know its beta , and beta communities suck.

But since the last round of beta

The ammount of non-english was staggering. There was scarcely any any english sentence among italian, russian,hungarian,polish...whatnot in main chat.

And before you start throwing stones - i am croatian and my language is not english. But its english server and we should communicate in one language.

But it was just spam of thongues

And most people you contacted ingame also spoke no word of english.

On the end i moved to USA server. And will probably stay there unless Trion opens Russian, Italian (and other language servers)

Otherwise it will be really hard to play there :(

Rift is an interesting game, but as far as leaving WoW to go play it? Well, I'm not interested *yet*. My guild just started clearing bosses in Blackwing Descent so I've got renewed interest in WoW. Rift itself is a great game and I really like it. Love the character creation features, the robust (Though often criticized for giving the illusion of having many career paths) soul system, and the fast paced combat, but I've got a lot to look forward to in WoW, and I'm eager to see it all before I decide to jump ship.

Rift in itself has a lot going for it. Even if I wanted to leave WoW to play Rift, it wouldn't be until 2-3 weeks after release as the starting zones will be a mess and WAY too over populated for me (I don't like when there's 7000000 people standing in line to kill one quest mob). It was a nightmare on Beta and it'll be a nightmare at release. My free month will mostly be spent waiting in line for quest mobs or dealing with node stealers.

My guild routinely (And jokingly) blames rift for any problems it incurs, though. Someone leaves the guild? You just hear everyone on vent say "Probably left to play Rift." Main tank dies? "You should go play Rift cause you fail at this game!". Healer goes OOM? "In Rift you never go OOM!" Though many of my guildies participated in beta and actually enjoy the game.

I don't think I will ever leave WoW for Rift.  It is not because WoW is a better game (I'm not saying its worse either), but becauses of one main reason: the specs for Rift are too high.  I could never play it even if I wanted to on my computer.

Since when is Tuesday a direction?
