Is there any sense of awe , wonder , mystery here-----------------------------------NO! Seriously I dont think this game inspires anyone , the fact that people are comparing it to wow is kind of sad, you dont work for your skills ahh this has allready been said , mediocre folks, if that is what you want then go for it, I have much more fun playing Mass effect 2 by myself , even Vindictus which is a one shot pony is more fun, but viva la differance when you see that rift just make sure you dont fall in its a long way to the bottom and it can be boring getting there.
What I consider truly sad is comparing RIFT to Vindictus. You my friend have failed at gaiming. Enough said.
Its tough to handle the truth my friend, I did not compare Vindictus to rift I just said it is more fun, there is nothing more sad then a fan boy who wants to hold on to "his game" that he will say silly things like "you have failed at gameing" really lol

Thank you for telling us that you enjoy games that aren't mmos!
Your quite welcome and I will gladly dispense advice as needed, next
It started when I got into the first full zone invasion Rift Battle complete with epic bosses. This was mind blowing to me and I haven't experianced anything like it in any game. There were literally Rifts and invasions going on everywhere and large raiding parties forming to combat these monster raids and defend the towns and hub locations.
The next Awe moment hit me when I got up around level 17 and ventured into a primative fortress. At first it just looked like a ramp with a wall and a platform. As I went deeper inside this fortress I went up a hill...up up up....until I was very high off the ground and was able to see down from there. It was awe inspiring, the view from that high up.
The next was the very first dungeon. We went into it not knowing what to expect. I had played WoW and EQ so I figured this dungeon would amount to a tutorial with a little boss battle or something. Oh no way!!! This dungeon was more in line with a level 70 wow dungeon in terms of depth of play, but bigger. The dungeon took us quite a while. There were about 4 or 5 death runs total. We fought thru all bosses and the last boss was a crazy fight. I am quite pleased that the instance didn't repopulate and that the final boss battle allowed us to fight without having to re-do the steps in the battle when we wiped the first time. All in all an epic and fun affair and one I will not forget in my many dungeon battles I have ben in over the years. Also the blizzard was a real trip. It was a very unexpected touch with the blizzard and something I have never seen in a dungeon. It really sucked me into the world.
Finally....the next zone Gloamwood. I was amazed by the huge tree in the town area in Gloamwood. It didn't seem that big until I started going up the rope bridge that ran along the base of the tree. It just kept going up and up and up. I finally reached the top and was shocked again at the view. I actually tried to jump from one bridge portion to another at the top and missed and fell all the way to the waters below. It was quite the insane fall and I got an award for falling from it and not dieing.
I am sure there will be many many more awe inspiring moments to come. These were my first and I am soo soo happy Rift is here and in existance. It has been too long since a good new game hit the shelves and Rift is THAT GAME.

Ha this guy's posts entertain me for sure: at least his tag is honest about what his purpose is. I can probably count on two hands the games I've played over the last 35 years or so that have truly awed me. And I know things like this are opinion but, unless you have never played an MMO before I don't see how you can call Rift one of these games. If you've ever played WoW or EQ or LOTRO or etc you've played this game. Games that awe are games that you just can't believe you are really playing. Games like, during their time: nethack, Ultima games, D&D Gold Box, Doom 1, UO, Half-Life 1, Civ4, CoD4, EQ/WoW. These were games that, for some reason or another made your jaw drop. Rift makes my jaw drop I guess, but only to yawn...
GW2 "built from the ground up with microtransactions in mind" 1) Cash->Gems->Gold->Influence->WvWvWBoosts = PAY2WIN 2) Mystic Chests = Crass in-game cash shop advertisements
The best thing in this game and new to me is that you can't always avoid rifts and invasions. Sometimes if you want to turn in a quest, you'll have to kill an invasion. I also like the region wide events when the sky colors black and you can't avoid walking into invasions. This is new to me. Besides that playing with the souls and experimenting with them is a game in itself. Besides that Rift has a lot of nice goodies from different MMO's, but nothing really new but quite nicely done.
Yes tons of gather X or run Y missions kill X and fed ex and escort .
But those quest WILL NEVER EVER CHANGE !!! here thats the real cold fact , its quest system that works .
Wrong sorry
We're starting to get hardcoded this way unfortunately. Two examples. During the early testing of GW2 events, there were no exclamation marks over quest givers. People were ignoring the events looking for said quest givers, until finally Anet caved and added NPCs with the feature. Another example are the Rifts. While quite a few people enjoy them, a lot are complaining about how they break their treadmill kind of of quest gameplay, thus requesting more of the "standard" type of questing instead of the event driven ones.
I know what he means about awe...hes not talking about epic battles. He's talking about exploration and discovery.
For instance, on that "other" MMO, there was a night where I decided to just hop on random ships to see where it would take me. I found a huge city of ruins and while I was exploring, I stumbled upon the Under City and the portal to Silvermoon completely by accident....and it was awesome. At the time (about two months ago), I hadnt played WOW since before the first expansion and I don't use guides, so it was a complete surprise to find these huge new areas.
Rift has very little of that...at least right now (I'm at level 12)...and believe me, I've taken off in random directions and haven't really discovered anything epic, except more rifts. I kind of look at Rift as I would the game Team Fortress 2. Forget about the story and the world...its all about the fighting, character customization and explosions at this point. I see it as a game to compliment what you're already playing...people who are giving up huge maps for a tiny contient, I dont know how they do it...
I played through the starting area in beta, and was struck by - to my mind - the lack of any awe or wonder at a mysterious new world. I guess it was the railway tracks that led me through the zone. There was no sense of being let loose in a surprising new place.
But I don't want to judge from the tutorial. Once you get beyond that, do things open up? Or does it retain the WAR train track feel? (The mood of the game seemed very WAR to me).
In my next MMO, I am looking for a large world to explore... which offers the thrill of cresting a hill and finding a shining city below, or heading off into a remote corner and stumbling across a magnificent series of waterfalls guarded by some unexpected creature.
Does Rift offer any of this, or is it not that game?
Yes, you get the large world feel for sure once you hit Scarlet Gorge (level 30ish) and some stunning visuals. There are puzzles and lore storyline quests (not as much handholding on these).. beyond the regular quests.
Awe moment: Had a 20 foot troll as a temporary pet killing elite mobs for me, woohoo.
Once you stop and look around a bit you will notice details that make this game a bit more unique than most others... For example, starting from the level 15-20 zone you can earn Achievements (an additional leveling system) for doing things like climbing a hard to climb mountain, discovering an out of the way non-pathed area, even jumping off a 500 ft waterfall. There is an Achievements icon on your menu bar that will tell you all the different kinds you can earn ... kinda a fun thing to do if a detour from all the other stuff is needed.
So much of Rift is unoriginal it's hard to feel any sense of immersion. You mean I start out the game in a magical forest with goblins in it? Wow. I've never done that before!

Yes. I'm in awe from seeing all the players in the game. I wonder how today's launch will go and I think it's a mystery how nobody has thought to do something like it before. That is to say, take all the good from other MMORPGs, give tons of customization, and top it off with cool world events.

Well, they did not reinvent the wheel, but I think that was not even purposed here. RIFT is simply a game to enjoy again. It has ofcourse copied many elements from previous titles, but hey, at least it is doing its job pretty well. Personally I really enjoy my time staying in Telara.

Yes. Go climb some mountains in Stonefield and say hi to the dancing squirels. Check out some hidden artifacts. Find some Cairns with phat loot.

I am actually pleasantly shocked with rift huge invasions.
