I love it when people argue that combat sucks because it is nothing but button mashing, considering that buttons is all we have to interface with the computer next to a mouse. You want them to make it react to your thoughts john edwards.
BTW Rift is good, played 3 last beta and i had fun,i havent preorder but will buy it after a month of release, but minecraft is way better well not really better but its fun and addicting, hope they make it a mmo ^^
The tittle of this post "do not buy Rift" makes me laugh!
Are u a Blizzard employee or something?
I just dont belive you bought the game 2 days ago and you are cancelling your account, simply because the game ROCKS!
Rift allready has 65 servers and they are all high populated or full...if you get in game you heard ppl reactions and they are blown away with the game.... more than 1 million accounts created.... so ..........
I purchased this game on Thurs and have already cancelled my account and requesting a full refund through paypal.
This game is the saddest excuse for a "Next-Gen" MMO i've ever seen. In fact, Trion should be sued for false advertisement for even daring to market this thing as Next-Gen. It is about as next-gen as putting wheels on a Bike.
There is nothing going for this game. It's as generic as generic can possibly be. One might argue and say "But they have Rifts!"... right. A spot on the map where a bunch of monsters get spammed out of. Gee, I wonder how many seconds that took to think up and implement.
The combat system is just your generic button mashing.... graphics are mediocre at best.... At the end of the day it's nothing more than a bad version of WoW.
Save your money for something like Guild Wars 2... stay away.
I agree wholeheartedly. And you know the saddest thing about it all? People are lapping it up.
I just think they'll be bored in a few months. It's not really a game that exudes longevity or replayability.
Congratulations to Trion for making something that, and I relunctantly state this, is looking like it may make a fair wad of money, but you ought to be ashamed of yourself for so diluting the MMO. Rift is generic, dull and heartless.
That's exactly what I though when i tried the last closed beta. Then I decided to try to experiment with builds on open beta instead of power-levelling and really enjoyed it.
I did not really enjoy the launch just for the sheer amount of people levelling. When there are less people they have to work together more to stop the invasions (which close the quest hubs)
You could have spent five minutes researching the game or played in the beta that let just about anyone in before you bought it.
I hope they don't give you a refund.
I really had enjoyed the first 3 betas of rift. Then I got into another beta, and rift just wasn't nearly as fun. I had planned to buy it before then, but after, meh.
I wouldn't say don't buy it, becaues I think alot of ppl will enjoy the game. Its not my cup of tea, although I bought it and will run my toon through the levels. I'm enjoying for what it is. I mainly bought it to play with friends, so it makes it interesting.
I think to compare it to WoW is a little bit overdone, because I think its more like Warhammer. Very linear. Public quests (Rifts). Even the feel of it seems Warhammer like (Very Busy, very noisy). Like I said, relatively fun for what it is. It won't have any replayability once you get through to the endgame.
The first thing I said when I first played this game was, it's WoW with Warhammer feel. I'm not saying that's a bad thing(least not for me) but, it does feel in the 15 lvls I have played that this is something I have done before. The rifts are cool for about an hour or so, then they just get in the way most times and get really redundent FAST! I will stay with it for awile since there is little out for me to play other than this. I think this game will grow old soon to a lot of ppl and others will enjoy the same old with a new wraping.

It's seriously revealing the number of people I have seen saying they will just play through the levels for a while, and equally revealing that many of these people also say they are just playing with friends or playing because they have no other game.
There's so many of these post from people that it really makes me believe that Rift will be a short-lived success. As soon as those friends realise what many of us do; that Rift is shallow and heartless, then will the whole group be gone? As soon as these people reach level 20-30 and realise nothing new is happening will they be gone?
How many of the million reported accounts will be left active and paying after the free month?

I think all depends on what they add to the game in the next 6 months. If they can get some original thought with new ideas to put in the game and keep ppl busy, maybe longer than some might expect?
What i dont get is how can you be bored of WOW and enjoy Rift ? I've been bored of WOW for over a year i tried Rift and it felt the same as playing WOW. I'm not buying the game just because it's too similar to WOW.

Yeah it is almost hard to believe that people don't care about this. Unless they are paid to not care about it of course. Even if they want to release something like that...it shouldn't price itself (literal and figural speaking) as being next gen and all.
I purchased this game on Thurs and have already cancelled my account and requesting a full refund through paypal.

That's how I felt at the end of closed beta, but then I tried just playing with builds in the open beta and enjoyed the game.
The beginning area is extremely boring though (it's like having to go through Tortage in AoC)
All I know is, while Rift is not the most amazing game in the world, I did sit down and get seriously into it for a good 6 hours yesterday and had a good time. I spent the majority of my time spent grouped with half the zone's population running around trying to finish objectives and stop an invasion, which also includes sealing rifts.
It's hectic, and it's the first time that anything in a game actually "felt" like an invasion, and like there was an actual threat that everyone has to band together to defeat. The atmosphere of the entire zone changes and shit goes nuts...
Now it did last over an hour and got a little boring near the end, but it's definitely more fun than just questing for the whole time.
I also tried the first Warfront. I prefer the idea of getting the flag, and just having to hold it, as opposed to running to your side to turn it in. Seems a lot quicker and to the point, then like in WoW where there'd be like 20 minutes of nothing in Warsong Gulch while each team turtled.
The combat isn't that bad... could be a bit more flashy. The graphics are awesome, in my opinion.
I'll say this, though - the quests are VERY bland and boring and not even worth reading for the most part. Although I found it odd how on Defiant side, they had a different quest line that had an orange background when reading it, and it said "Story" at the top, so it was like a main storyline, and they were the only ones I read.... but the Guardian side doesn't seem to have the same type of quest line at all, so I rarely read any.
Anyway, lots of good things in this game, but I can see how many people would get bored kinda quick.

I think all depends on what they add to the game in the next 6 months. If they can get some original thought with new ideas to put in the game and keep ppl busy, maybe longer than some might expect?
Can they really improve the game drastically enough, short of adding a whole new continent with vastly more open zones or making some interesting and open dungeons among other things?
I can't really think of anything they can add, or seem willing to add, that can give the game more replayability or make it last longer within the next 6 months. They have to make do with what they have got until an expansion and I can't see anything changing then. Scott Hartsman enjoys making games that promote solo play, so I nthink we'll see more of the same.
Of course, maybe I just want Rift to fail to succeed. Maybe there are enough people who enjoy shallow, uncreative experiences to keep this game going for some time. If there is then MMOs are surely doomed.
What i dont get is how can you be bored of WOW and enjoy Rift ? I've been bored of WOW for over a year i tried Rift and it felt the same as playing WOW. I'm not buying the game just because it's too similar to WOW.
Because some people, like me, does not like WoW's graphic, the way the WoW is being handled(severe dumbing down of game mechanic, homogenization of classes, recycling of content, infuriating way to balance the classes) and the fact that WoW's become a Communist state by Big Brother Blizzard.
Plus in Rift, as you level up, the more it feel different from WoW.
I think this game can work for people who've never played an MMO, or at least, never played a fantasy MMO. But if you're even remotely an MMO veteran, I think you'll find this attempt at next-gen MMO laughable. It is a blatant WoW clone, down to sound effects and item icons. I found it utterly unplayable. There's not an original pixel in the whole game. So, if you have nothing to compare it with, you might even enjoy it for a while. But if you've ever tried LOTRO, WoW, AION, AoC, DDO or virtualy any other fantasy MMO, you will probably find them vastly superior to this poor jumble of outdated concepts.
Some folks playing Rift have never played WoW or EQ or AoC or any of the other EQ clones. This may be their first fantasy MMO...
There is NO miracle patch.
95% of what you see in beta won't change by launch.
Hope is not a stategy. ______________________________ "This kind of topic is like one of those little cartoon boxes held up by a stick on a string, with a piece of meat under it. In other words, bait."

I tried all of them, played some of those extensively. I don't find them automatically and vastly superior to Rift. I found Rift moderately entertaining, but friends found it immensely enjoyable, and I'm big enough to admit that tastes differ and that if I hadn't the best time of my life with it, that this doesn't automatically must mean that people who do have an immensely great time with it are by default MMO noobs.
Rift can hold its own pretty well next to other themepark MMO's - or 'WoW clones' as some are prone to call all themepark MMO's - and even surpasses several of those themepark MMO's.
It sounds more like you've grown tired and burnt out on themepark MMO mechanics.

Waaaah i bought a game i didnt research at all and didnt like it, I WANT A REFUND CRY CRY CRY i think about sums it up.
Also, you do know the term "next generation" doesnt actually mean anything right? all it means is its new, which it is, it os good to know that if i wanted to sell something all i have to do is slap next gen on it and apparently fools like you will buy it just for that.

I cant imagine the person who sits at home and gets angry at a video game, and the people who play it.

Rift is bad. It has nothing going for it. Short sighted dollar throwing drone heads will make you think otherwise.
Then they'll all leave after a few months because it was the truth all along. In the meantime keep an eye open for dlc.
Aion much?
