Yep, and I judge that if one person of Trion makes a statement, and another person of Trion makes another statement more recently that puts the older statement into the light as it was meant, then both statements are valid.
Believing one statement and disbelieving another from the same company just because one fits someone's personal belief better is not acting objectively, but following an agenda. imo.
I have no dog in this race, personally, but I did want to point out something Maverick. Just as Prague is dismissing the later remark you're citing, you are dismissing the one he's citing. Each of you is favoring one statement, while ignoring the other. And in that regard, by your logic, you'd be as guilty of "having an agenda" as he is.
Just sayin' :-p

The mmo industry is like any other form of entertainment. It needs to truly evolve or it will die. The level of "evolution" we have seen over the past several years in the genre is simply inadeqaute.
Rift is a game that probably would have been better off had it been released a few years back (I'm not saying it won't do well in today's market). There's nothing wrong with well polished mmos that follow the familiar formula, there is obviously still demand for them (for now). However, things have been stagnating for far too long, and we need some studio out there to realize just how ripe the field is with opportunity. I really don't want to watch this genre disintegrate into a small niche, which will inevitably occur if we continue down the road we're on.
This genre, more than any other in the video gaming industry, has the potential to become so much more than what it is now.
Though I completely agree with you I also think you are completely wrong.
I Know right? what's that about?
the thing is, people who are very passionate about games can't see that games are just like any other medium and is subject to the same commericialization as anything else.
There really hasnt been a lot of evolution in movies, books or music. Perhaps on the technical end but that's it.
Yet all of these are going quite strongly in one way or another.
We still purchase music, go to new ("new") movies and read books or your kindle or however you do it.
Yet a lot of what we take in is extremely derivative.
It's just the way it is. Sorry but experimental games or games that are "different" will go the way of Jazz.

More people need to realize that just because one person has an opinion, does not mean that other people with an opposing opinion are automatically lying. They might just disagree about something.
Two thumbs up with this. I agree. But, it's weird when people say its the same game. I don't get it..

Heh, not really. I hold them equally valid.
If no explanation would've been given in the second statement but just that the 1500 population cap comment was false, I would've been puzzled and left it at a personal 'contradictory, unsolved mystery for the moment' in my mind, or see if I could find some more info that could explain such a contradiction.
If the second explanation hadn't been given, I would've taken the first explanation for (seemingly) true, although I would've raised my eyebrows, maybe laughed in disbelief that Trion would do such a thing, since 90-95 % of all the MMORPG's I knew had higher population caps since the time of Everquest.
However, in the second statement, which is more recent, an explanation is given regarding the first statement. Since both came from official sources I believe the 1500 population cap to be untrue, added to that the observation that such a low population cap would be totally in contrast with most of the current MMO's around, among them Aion, AoC and TERA.

Anyway this is my opinion after playing Beta 5 and 6. I stop playing Rifts after reaching lvl 28 cos the game is seriously so lame. Linear quest, 2 faction races same starting area and combat animation are freaking dull and slow. The games feel it should be a B2P or F2P MMO. Dev is so lazy that they even recycle Warhammer armor design. The only cool thing about Rifts is the octopus tentacles from the sky that reminded me of last boss in Hellboy 1 movie.
I felt that the only thing Trion put more effort is by getting people to spam that Rifts are awesome in all the forums and MMO sites lol.
WOw, it took you to level 28 to figure out something that could be learned from screenshots or the first 10 levels? Sorry your comments reflect more of someone who only eants to troll these forums than actually played the game. And if you did play, why did it take to 28 levels to form an opinion on something so "lame"?
Don't most fans of Rift say that if you don't get past level 15 or something like that then your opinion doesn't matter because the world opens up more. Maybe he took the fans' words to heart and honestly thought that the game would be funner after a certain point.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't I guess.
Of his complaints what would have taken 28 levels to figure out? The only difference (of his complaints) that changes from the early levels to level 28 is the openness of quests. Other than that, all of his generic compalints could have been realized earlier. heck, the majority could have been learned by screenshots much less 28 levelss in game.
But if he had gone on screenshots alone, he would be berated by people exclaiming that his opinion don't count 'cause he hadn't actually played it.
C'mon, Elidien... These are the MMORPG.com forums. You've been around here long enough to know how that whole song-and-dance goes. With some people, your opinion is only valid if it resembles their own... If it doesn't, you get to deal with the ever-moving goal-posts of "reasons why your opinion doesn't count"... Youou didn't play enough, you don't have good taste in games, you didn't this, you don't that... etc. etc. ad nauseum.

I don't think I'll quit anticipating World of Darkness and The Secret World just because some random person tells me that if I don't like RIFT I should throw in the towel. Only a true SHEEP would heed such drivel. Seriously.
I did not care for RIFT. It's not interesting to me. I found it a snore fest. I'm entitled to not care for a game. I'm also entitled to have my own tastes and opinions regarding the genre. Fantasy MMOs are getting sort of boring to me if they don't offer something truly unique. I'm ready for whatever the next batch of games brings and I'll decide on THOSE as I play them. But no I will NOT just say "screw MMOs" and quit playing because RIFT is a polished pile of dog poo to ME. (No offense if your opinion differs...I understand that.)
No guarantees on ANY game coming, not GW2, not WoD, TSW, TOR, not ANY of them have a guarantee. But I'd rather wait and see what pops up than take the first horse out of the gate just because it's available first. Pffft.

I like the horse analogy, but let's not forget there are former horses that are still good to go to this day. I myself went back to an old one after being disapointed with Rift.
To the OP: Why would I give up on fantasy mmo because this new one for me is a dud? I actually went back to Final Fantasy XI and having a blast. There is still plenty of people playing FFXI, plus FFXIV is showing a good deal of improvement and should be playing this later this year.

Yeah, I don't agree with the OP as well.
However, a point could be made that if people dislike Rift because of the 'same old same old' feel and the themepark MMO features it has in common with other MMO's, then maybe those people should ask themselves if they aren't burnt out on themepark MMO features after years of playing them, and should take a break from MMO gaming or look for different types of MMO's (Xsyon, DCUO, Ryzom, classic EQ, CoX, FE, DF, etc).
Because the OP is right in 1 thing, Rift is the most polished, fully functional themepark MMO at its launch as we've seen for years.
And for those who've grown out of themepark MMO's and can't seem to care for current MMO's with different gameplay (see my list), there's always GW2, Firefall, ArcheAge, WoD and TSW to wait for and look forward to.

^^ This is one of the more original pieces of thinking that I've noticed in the story of the game.
The original statement, like most statements, could usefully be qualified (Like, "If you don't like RIFT and you don't like anything else that's going", perhaps), and especially as to time: It may take five years or more for a radically new kind of game to emerge in the traditional fantasy genre, but the rate at which things change also changes, usually for the faster.
