I'm already bored... why?

GPrestigeGPrestige Member UncommonPosts: 523

Let me start off by saying that Rift is an absolutely fantastic game. It has had one of the best launches I've ever been a part of, and everything seems polished to the extent of an MMO thats already been out for a year. However, I feel I'm bored already, and when I see so many people claiming how much fun they are having I think that I'm missing something.

For those of you who love the game, understand that I really do like it. It is fun, for the most part, and offers a different take on the same stuff. Basically, I love WoW. Once I heard people were saying it is an MMO like WoW, and is really polished, I considered that a GOOD thing. I mean, I've played WoW for years, and the only thing I was really bored of was the lore/story/world ie. I wanted a change in world only. What better way to get that, than to play Rift?

But, when it came down to it, I managed to play since headstart and I find myself getting a little bored. I don't know if it is because it feels like I have done this before, or if I'm just getting bored of MMOs. I'll admit, I'm really excited for GW2 and SWToR because they CLAIM to be bringing something new to the table. I just don't see myself being able to play this for any longer than the free month period. I'm probably just one of the many who will quit after the free month, but the difference with me is I don't know WHY I'm bored. That is why I come to you, I need help figuring out just what the hell has me feeling bored each time I log on.

I'm also hoping there are others here who feel the same way; they like it but can't bring themselves to log on much.

This thread is meant in no way to start an argument between people who like it and dislike it, I think this is a chance for people to voice their opinion. Try to be as constructive as possible. If you are going to come in and just say "the game sucks" with no valid explenation as to why you think so, then don't bother. I want to hear what you think, because it might help me and others in the same situation.

I think you answered your own question in your post there.

You've played WoW for years and thus your bored of it.

    Rift is like WoW.

Honestly, you sound exactly like where I am right now, although because I do think I'll get bored of this game quickly like you (because it's not bringing anything new to the table) I'm just not going to buy it.

If you need some forum people to tell you to stop playing if you're bored, other issues may be at hand. But so as no one can say I'm not a good sport.

    Stop playing then?

Seems like you're just suffering from burn-out. It's happened to a lot of people (me included) and the only thing that will fix that is a long break away from MMO's or something completely different.

I've actually had a lot of fun playing the Darkspore beta and will probably buy at release (if my gf doesn't drag me into Rift), that's as much a clone of D2 as Rift is of WoW, yet I'm hooked. That's proof to me that same thing with a different dress isn't is definitely enjoyable.

Hang on Hang on Hang on.

I'm supposed to give you your opinion? Sweet!

You are bored because climate change and the magnetic poles switching are going to create a utopia through destruction.  Sadly only cats will make it through the coming apocalpyse.

i think u need to lvl with a firend ....more fun with more ppl lol

it is kinda of boring lvling soloing.  since it feel empty lvling  alone unless u really read the quest..  just like other mmorpg(my thoughts)

Most games including single player games are just so easy that is feels unrewarding and pointless, there is no sense of adventure anymore because everything is just spoon fed to you.  This why I mostly like well designed PvP games or strategy games.

You seem to misunderstand - I can't figure out why the hell I'm bored of it, when it was exactly what I was looking for, or so I thought.

It's not your style of game? I really disliked Halo, got bored of Lord of the Rings Online within two days, and can't stand hockey. So what? I moved on.

We were attempting to get to 50 fast - people got burned out - they got bored.  Some of us said screw it and just started tooling around... we found the fun again.

It is a game.  It is not a job.

I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?

Well, you said it yourself, you have been playing WoW for years...you have been doing the same thing for years.  Some people need to change up their gaming style once in a while, myself included.

Personally, I am pretty much in the same boat as you.  I have already stopped logging into Rift.  I had originally bought it because some real life friends were going to play, but unfortunately that did not exactly work out.  I wasn't really looking forward to the game, was just getting it to play with friends.  It's not a bad game by any means; game is in best state of a game that just released of any MMO I have played...I am just bored of that style of game...you may be too.

Yeah LOTRO blew balls im sorry i need to have the choice to work for the bad side and that monster crap is crap so dont say you can be evil. your bored with rift because WoW is your baby and its not WoW so you play it, you have fun, but deep down you dont want to level all the way to max because you already have a max toon on WoW. Thats the reason why i have a hard time with new mmos is because of EQ1. I was so imersed in EQ that when it was time to give it up for a new model i just couldnt say away from the first true love of mine.

I understand how you feel. I haven't logged in the game in 4 days. I'm not sure I could pin point the problem I have with it, I just feel bored with the game. I think I'm sick of the whole genre really.

I can relate to the original poster. I like MMOs or rather I like what they could become. I played Rift beta and couldn't rationalize spending the money on it.  In the end, MMOs are static worlds in which it makes no difference what the player does. The world dosn't change and there isn't even any challenge of survival.  Gold and items are easy to come by and no matter how good or bad you are at the game, everyone will reach maximum level if they play long enough. No matter how polished the game is, it is still more of the same that developers have been churning out for more than a decade.  There is always some fantastic story where the player is supposed to be some kind of hero. However, real or fictional heroes that grab one's attention have one thing in common- there is a risk of loss. In MMOs, you can't lose. Once you have read all the similar story lines, played all the similar mechanics and grinded your way to max level on a few games, there isn't much more to these games right now than being on a merry go round.

Lmao I love how you joined to post that! That being said, I think a lot of you are right, but not in the fact that I'm bored of the genre but I think that TYPE of MMO is what I'm bored of. I need to find something that is a little different, but still an MMO because I know I love MMOs.

You're sort of out of luck. There are a few niche mmo's out there though.

You want something different and good in an MMO? I can give you a suggestion but your not gona like it. Due to the fact it ain't shiny or up to date yet.

    Darkfall~

On the plus side, no trolls in the game as i can see.

It's a good game but not an original game or a unique game.  After you have ganked 40k gnomes in WoW, 1 million spiders in Aion, slogged around Hyborian,  staggered through Warhammer, and Lotr, you notice it's all basically the same classes and the same abilities just a different title.  Instead of a game that is fun,  interesting, and Crom forbid...unique;   they come up with more of the same.   Why for instance in every mmo, that I have played anyway, do you have to start out with one or 2 crappy abilities?  Why can't you start out with a nice selection of abilities with some nice animations?  Instead you get to back stab 25 hours worth of trash mobs to get anything barely exciting.  I think most of us now qualify as mmo experts and after playing a dozen mmo's I am not really interested in starting the same slog fest over esp. when it's a cut a paste copy of the others that preceeded it.   Maybe you suffer from the same mmo gamers malaise.  It's like being fed Whoppers everyday for 5 years and then they come out with something new to eat called the Whopper Jr.  mmmm can't get enough.

I think OP and many others just need something new now.

Meridian 59 '96, Everquest '99 and Wow '04. If you played too much of the same it is time to either get something different or take a break from MMOs.

Some players get tired faster than others. Question is if TOR and GW2 is different enough for those players, but we just have to wait and see for that.

And no, I am not saying that something is wrong with Rift or OP, doing the same thing a lot gets boring no matter what, particularly if you don't take breaks or play something rather different at times.

I was lucky enough to figure it out during the beta. Im just tired of  these type of fantasy  mmo's. Maybe swtor will be the fix i need and perhaps for you too.  Need something NEW :)

I get confused by people trying to turn this into their WoW replacement so fast. Only lvl 39 here and I have been doing every quest I find and reading them all enjoying it.

I see little to no reason to rush to end game when 95% of the population is probably below lvl 50 right. Of course you would be bored and lonely.

Also ask yourself..how many hours a day are you playing? You are coming from WoW and that game will almost certainly burn anyone out on this genre. I took a 16 month break with Aion and came back refreshed ready for another American MMO.

You guys are pretty depressing. Notice the common trend most of you came from WoW and need a break or limit your log on time atleast.

Thats not really the problem. The problem is that most MMOs are rather similar and build on EQs model.

First you quest (solo or group) until max level.

Then you run dungeons and some larger scale PvP (battlegrounds) for gear.

After that there is raiding in tiers and arena PvP.

Add some crafting in between and that is basically how most MMOs worked for the last 12 years.

Some people are just terrible bored with that and it is not really strange. Most of the people complaining have been playing MMOs for at least 5 years.

Rift is a fine game but it is not the game for MMO burnouts. To me it seems like WoDO and GW2 will work better for people like that, they don't follow this exact model.

Edit: Ooops, you added some stuff in a edit... My reply is to the quote above anyways.

Here is an idea. Go play a Korean MMO and come back and tell me this game is boring. It actually offers a hell of a lot, but you WoW guys are over loaded on the genre. The EQ guys are having some fun at end game since this game plays like WoW Vanilla.
