Is this just a "filler" MMO?

Great game, but its too much of the same ole situation, get to level cap and grind for gear.

However all these new developers are reading from the same game manual and we have recycled rinse and repeat mmo's.

I am in a fantastic guild though and making the game more enjoyable, however I am waiting for TOR as well.

For me this game is a filler. I personally looking for a better PvP experience.

    Yes, it's a filler..

Yeah, it's a filler for me as well. I hoped it could keep me interested for at least a few months, but there's just nothing to do in the game once you hit the cap.

There's 4 classes and since you can change roles as often as you want, there's no reason to ever roll more than 4 characters. With 4 characters you have everything covered.

You can reach the cap in less than a week.. See where this is going? It won't keep anyone busy for very long unless they're REALLY casual. lol

Some people mentioned players treating mmos like single player games, and I agree with that tbh. It's not really the fault of the players though, but the fact that most newer games lack any sort of content. They're so linear and "themeparky" that you're pretty much on rails the whole way.

In games like Everquest, Asheron's Call etc. you had stuff to do besides simply trying to hit the level cap. The new games offer nothing but the ride to the cap. I can't see myself playing any newer mmo for years, as repeating the same raid over and over simply isn't "more content". It's the same as the first time you ran through it.

The new mmos are all about the destination.. Not the journey. I really have no idea what you'd be doing in games like Rift after a year.. Or even 3 months. You've already done everything. The game is over.

Just go to Meridian and see how many level 50 people are idling there because they're bored.. Or how many 50's are riding around in Meridian on their Stillmoor mounts thinking low levels will admire them. lol It's sad. Just 3 weeks in, level 50 is no achievement at all. I have two 50's already and am working on the third (level 28 now) just trying to get my money's worth before quitting completely. There's absolutely nothing to do, so I have a hard time seeing how anyone would NOT consider Rift a filler. :)

lol nothing to do at 50. Yes because obviously in GW2 or SWToR when you hit max you will obviously not be queue'n for battlegrounds or running instances and raids too.

Nothing to do at 50. Now that is funny. Just ignore the fact there are 10 instance + 5 10 man raid rifts + 1 20man soon to be 2 or 3 raids + 5 different warfronts + open world pvp without stupid penalties + crafting

Even the sub-number king WoW only retains 30% of players. (only 30% gets above level 10 - Blizz CEO)

Is it right or wrong? Doesn't matter, that's market reality.

I somehow have trouble believing that.

If that is true, if WoW has say 12 million players, then that would mean 28 million people tried WoW and didn't get past level 10.

I find that hard to believe 40 million people have tried WoW.

i have 2 weeks left from the free month.... i wont buy another month, but i did buy the game cos i like it (besides melee combat) so if i buy more months id roll spell casters and get used to them. Like someone else said, maybe after the first expansion (if i like the additions / changes)... for now ill stick with f2p mmos and xbox360 untill GW2, TSW, arche age, swtor, and blade &soul comes out, to see which 2 ill stick with

Definitely not filler for me.  BUT replayability?  I don't really see that.

One start area each side, basically one set of quests for the whole leveling process each side.  Other than that you can level through Rift killing, dungeoun running or PvP.  Collections easy, crafting way to easy to max level.

RIFT is very polished and kudos to TRION for a gaming opening this well.  But long term?  There is definitely room for more varition, and not just tack on 10 more levels to grind for new gear/raiding.  Rep grinding is very Wow-like ie boring.

I like the journey not just end game.  I've got a six month sub, will it go past that, doubtful as things stand, but maybe.

Doing the same instance over and over doesn't count as more content. Sure, you can do it on expert difficulty, but the content is still the same old thing you did during leveling. Rifts also get boring real fast as they're the same forever. It's like saying Nightmare and Hell difficulty in Diablo 2 counts as having 3 times the content.

Besides, what is the point of most of those instances? Getting slightly better gear so you can do the next run .1 second faster? There's no gold at the end of the rainbow here.. It's just an endless loop of repetition.

What makes it even worse in Rift is that the leveling is the fastest I have yet to see in a mmo. You hit the "game over" or "start repeating everything" cap way too fast and there's little point in rolling alts when you can just have roles setup for different situations. If you can stand doing the exact same quests again, you can make up to 4 characters. Making more than that seems pointless with the roles system.

On top of that the combat is so insanely boring in Rift.. It doesn't matter if you're doing KB on normal difficulty, IT on expert or whatever, you will still be doing the exact same thing you've done since getting your skills. There is no variation at all. Some skills are worth using and others aren't. So you will just be spamming 'the best' skills forever.

And people have started seeing which builds work and which build don't, so you can expect to be told what and how to play your character. Especially since it's so easy changing a role in Rift. You may like your Elementalist or whatever, but if you want to join the experts, chances are you'll be playing some sort of Chloro/Archon mix most of the time. Warrior DPS is currently just better.

I really can't see what would keep people playing this game for a year or more. People have already completed everything in the game and we're not even out of the free month yet. What do you want them to do?
