I have a self rule to never buy mmos at release but instead wait for a trial but Im gonna skip it with swtor, probably. Becouse it looks good enought and I think Bioware is gonna make a good game, like anything else they do.
I will definately be picking up this one when it releases. I think the main reason being that it is in the Star Wars universe which is one of my favorites, esspecially for games. I don't quite know how I feel yet about Bioware and their ability to produce a good, long lasting, enjoyable MMORPG experience, but having played KOTOR, I think it will at the least be fun to go through the content the first time around, which is worth the $50 in my opinion.
I have been following this game for awhile now and am excited about some of the stuff they are doing. I know they are not going to have everything, and the 'on rails' space combat was kind of a let down. But I think we can all say that the game is going to be 'finished' when it releases which is why I think I'm going to buy this one without waiting to see what happens in the first couple months. I'm not sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for the release date for SWTOR yet, but I am definately excited about it!
Definately. I'm a life long Star Wars fan and I love BioWare games so it's like a no brainer for me.
As an ex SWG player who quit not long after the NGE (yes, I did try the NGE as I was an addict but not for long) I have drifted from one MMO to another, never finding one that could replace the empty MMO void in my life which included Star Wars and had nothing to do with Orc, Elfs, Wizards, Swords and Magic ect ect. I was so thrilled when the rumours about a new SW MMO was being made back when BioWare announced SWTOR and have followed it ever since.
If it turns out to be pants, i'll most probably lose all faith in MMO's and drift from one MMO to another all over again as nothing else has interested me, not even GW2 and then i'll start pestering BioWare to make Mass Effect MMO again:p
My biggest fear is that SWTOR lures away the dregs of WoW's playerbase and drags it down into the same.
Was gonna put it off due to jumping on the rift hype train. Then realize rift is not what i'm looking for. So decided to wait for swtor along with gw2. Last month resub to aion to check out how it's been after a year since i stop playing. Was quite pleasantly surprise with aion improvement so once again putting swtor off unless i see something else that can make me change my mind again. My problem is not with financial restriction but more on whether i got enough time to properly play the game.
Nah. They've spent too much money on video, cut scenes, and voice-overs instead of immersive content. If I'm going to drop money for that, I'd rather just rent the movies.
The cut scenes, voice overs is just that.."immersive content"
If you just want to watch your game then perhaps. I prefer to play mine instead.
Cutscenes are vastly overrated.. hopefully there will be the option to skip them.. not sure why cutscenes should be considered immersive though.. as they often force you to complete certain activities in a certain way.. so that they don't look ridiculous... which if anything actually breaks the immersion.. voice overs.. same again.. whatever voice you expected or imagined a particular type of npc/char had/has might well be vastly at odds with the ones they assign to it.. imagine how Han Solo would sound if he had Luke Skywalkers voice... or worse.. Princess Leia's now that might be an extreme example.. but by having voiceovers their forcing you to accept their version.. which might be completely different to how you imagined them to be.. and the more your into RP'ing in games, the more likely this will occur..
I voted yes just because I want to check out the voice over stuff, but if ANYTHING in this game sounds like jar jar fucking binks....I'm going to break the disc in half, and never put it back in (yeah I know it's all stored on HDD, but uninstalling isn't a good meter of how angry I will be)

If you roll Empire, there's a very likely chance you'll have the option to kill ANYTHING that might sound like Jar Jar fucking Binks. That's a much better solution, no?
Yes, I simply have to see how it turns out for myself. I like reading the quest text and knowing the story so this one might be a good fit for me.
"Sean (Murray) saying MP will be in the game is not remotely close to evidence that at the point of purchase people thought there was MP in the game." - SEANMCAD
Undecided because they pushed back the release date and by that time too many games will be out including diablo 3.So it may not be a first day buy but maybe after 3 months or so.
- A big amount of open and immersive worlds with probably a crazy amount of polish, some of them are huuuge.
- A fresh Sci-Fi mmorpg setting; speeder bikes / pew pew lazors / flame throwers, etc, etc.
- Interesting take on companions with crew skills / missions, etc
- Having your own spaceship as a player home + the stuff you can use it for (crafting, navigating the universe, playing space-on-rails, maybe sleeping, relaxing, etc)
- Interesting classes with multiple roles system
- PvP servers with extra* world pvp sauce (*compared to pve servers which might have some too in some area's).
- Expecting a lot of polish regarding stability and few bugs
- Deep storylines adding a lot of meaning to the leveling proces: less grinding and repetitive kill quests.
- More interesting npc's to deal with rather than text box spamming statues.
- The game's art-direction, artwork and the immersion it will offer.
- Permanent exploration rewards
- World bosses
You know, Dark, everytime a massive amount of negativity invades my brain about this game from so many posts, you save me from the raging storm and put me back on the mountain top of excitement about SWTOR. +1 for being awesome.
Hehe, thanks mate. I know the feeling. It's unneeded though
Every game gets a lot of flak over here and 90% of the flak SWTOR is getting can be described as: "Storylines + voice overs = single player rpg! IT IS NOT POSSIBLE for a true mmorpg to have these!"
Some people don't seem to understand the meaning of the word "addition" and fail to realize how storylines could be a rich and awesome replacement for the boring leveling proces in most other mmorpgs. I'd rather play through an epic storyline and chase objectives with a lot of meaning and story than doing countless of repetitive kill and collect quests or grinding xp.
For me, the storylines aren't even the main reasons why I am interested in this game. Vast, open and immersive worlds, interesting crafting/companions, the fresh setting and world pvp are much higher on my list.
Yes. If it is KOTOR with multi play I will be happy and everything else will be a bonus.
I can feel your anger. This game is defenseless. Take your weapon. Strike this game down with all of your hatred, and your journey towards towards the Dark Side will be complete.

I voted yes, I have never been dissapointed in bioware yet, and a special thanks to DarkPony, glad there are others who don't act all destroyed that space combat is on rails. as pointed out by the devs, it was never in the movies, it was allways go from point a to b, not wandering off to explore point c.
Gonna give it a shot. hell it's starwars. will i stcik with it?.. that remains to be seen, More hope for GW2 if devs at BW keep retracking orginal concepts around companions. I will play GW2 first for the simple fact no monthly sub. We shall see.. if it's just another boring attempt at a SW MMO
No. I'm a huge Star Wars fan but this game, according to what I've seen so far, will not be enjoyable for me. I so much wanted a vast, open, lawless galaxy, filled with intrigue, the freedom to explore, smuggle, etc. Not interested in voiceovers, cut scenes or specific story lines - not in any MMO that I buy.,
Love the IP and loved the first two KoTORs but so far nothing I've seen of this game screams that I should pick it up on release. I'll likely wait 3-6 months after release once things have been cleaned up and cleared out a bit.
I'll be playing it. Even if I only get a month's worth of playtime I think it will be worth it. God knows I've spent enough money on games in which have only lasted a week.
I still don't like the combat and animations but having played Bioware games before I'm used to it.
Yes. If it is KOTOR with multi play I will be happy and everything else will be a bonus.
Don;t get your hopes up. Everything bioware has said, leads away from that very idea.
it's not a story driven Star Wars RPG (MMO)? Not following what you mean.
I can feel your anger. This game is defenseless. Take your weapon. Strike this game down with all of your hatred, and your journey towards towards the Dark Side will be complete.
OF COURSE I'm going to play it, the game would have to be really bad for me not to, and frankly, thats not an option here.
From everything we've seen, we have stories that change your character, massive open worlds that are notches above the best I've seen in an MMO, combat that adds a medium between full action and strategy, housing, hybridization of classes, alignments, and so much packed into a single characters progression that it would be a rarity to have two of the same characters go through their story and come out exactly the same.
Then you have a crafting system that I feel is a major step in the right direction. You have real, open world PvP, (or should I say open worlds PvP, as you'll likely be fighting on quite a few of them) enough PvE and Group content to last months.
From what they've said this will be the largest MMO to ever exist on launch.
People focus too much on the voiceovers and story, thinking they'll be sitting there watching movies all day, but they fail to realize that these aren't just movies, these are progression tools that effect your character in both objectives and skills.
Anyone saying they won't be playing this game will definitely be missing out.

I don't have time to go through what you said step by step( I might late but im just putting off work atm and have to get back to that), but as someone who has been following and reading up on this game often, I really think your overhyping what the game will actually be. "combat that adds a medium between full action and strategy" for example, stands out to me as bologna to say the least.
Free trial or open beta maybe. The direction they are taking with online games however is completely opposite of what I want out of online games, so won't purchase it.

Well, you have blocking with some characters, dodging and cover with others, NO auto attack, specific mechanics for each class like heat dispersion for the bounty hunter, or building up rage or what have you with the sith warrior, you have hybridization through different classes meaning you can make characters that can actively use stealth or focus on being part healer and damage dealer, or drop shields on the ground, you also can use the environment to not only take cover but to also do damage. You can also counter attack special abilities too.
Full action would be more DCUO where you can block, dodge, do combos, counter attack, roll out of the way, use LOS, freeze opponents and use them as weapons, etc.
Strategy would be more, turn based, using auto attack, skills hitting you through walls, no reason to dodge, just plan your set of skills and off they go such as CoX or WoW.
Combat is a step above WoW but not different enough to be DCUO. Seems like its middle ground to me.

Star Wars to me is huge... I LOVE the movies, I love everything about it... this is an MMO I've been waiting for since they broke SWG.
I simply can't wait and Ill be buying it as soon as Im able to preorder Sooner the better lol
