Does Trion patch Rift too often?

It is with great Irony I suppose that I just tried to log in a bit ago and found all the servers off line for patching (Must have hit the 8:00 am Pacific patch window someone mentioned) and I logged into this thread to see where it had gone.

You guys are too much fun.  My post was tongue in cheek, I certainly wasn't making any sort of statement that I didn't want Trion to patch the game, never have espoused the opinion that any company doesn't patch enough, and its amazing how many words and thoughts have been put into my mouth since my original OP.

Maybe I didn't put enough emoticons at the end of my post?

But I will say this, my career is software development, it is generally bad form to patch production environments too frequently and most houses restrict it to a specific period.  Sure, I hate the long WOW patches on Tuesdays or whatever, and while I prefer EVE's daily 1 hour downtimes, there's some Aussies out there that absolutely despise the way it breaks up their prime time.  As someone said, you can't please everyone.

I assume as the product matures they'll reduce the frequency of patches, and no matter what you think, that sort of patch pattern generally implies that for every 3 defects they fix they are likely introducing one more. (yes, I pulled that stat out of the air, but you get the general idea)

Wow. I think I've seen it all O.o. Danged if you do, Danged if you don't. Lol. Never in my entire life in MMORPGs have I EVER seen someone complain about "too many patches". If this is true, then Rift must be doing something right!

True, most of these patches are small, only a few minutes to download, but it just seems that they should be past near daily patching of the client code by now.

And weekends, nothing more annoying than to settle down at 8:00 am on a Saturday to play some Rift only to get "sorry, we're bringing down the servers for 30 minutes to patch the game"

I'm glad they are so responsive and dedicated to making a smooth running product, but enough with the patching, confine it to once or twice a week already.

Hmm... I never had any shut down ... guess never play at such times. Otherwise I see this only from positive perspective. And so far have not encountered (my alts are in both faction however up to 29, I do not pvp) any disturbing bug that would really need patch.

Btw, Rift is unique also at this, that have never seen any patch bringing miriad of new bugs as usually regularly happen with other mmos.
