The title says it all. How important are graphics to you? If there was a 2d mmo to come out, even an eclipse game, that has all the features everyone is looking for. Such as, in depth crafting, player made factions, immersive world, ect. Would you play it?
As a game developer I am curious what people think.

Simply no, sorry. I feel I need to expaand, I never played the board game version of this, but if graphics aren't important I'd have more fun at Trivial Pursuit or Monotony. Well designed games and 2d. And very interactive.

My initial answer would be no.
However, if the art design was absolutely inspiring then "maybe".

Depends it's complexity.
If it had layers and layers of complexity to it, It would deffinetly get a fanbase.
Unable to quote you erm 'above' I think nowadays it doesn'y matter how many dice you need to roll, without a pretty toon you ain't geting no where. sounded like BA then, ain't geting on no plane!

It's completely possibly, though highly unlikely.
Is there a reason for it to be 2D? What's making you want to go that way with the game design?
I've always liked the idea of small world but with lots of polotics being the name of the game, and you wanna play the game with me, need to be a bald woman tho... seriously that is a major consideration.

graphics are very important to me, as long as the game is well done and well finished. IF its a game with all the features (except graphics) its dead to me. If ifs a boring game with excelent graphics, its also dead to me... a combination of both is what i want. great graphics at least as good as AoC, FFXIV, Rift. Game as smooth and varied as WoW. Maybe a questing system with dynamic events as GW2 (we will see how good this quest system is when GW2 launches). And more important, that game should not come from SOE... they havent learned how to improve games...
I think you might be stretching his funds rojo....

To make my point clear, cause sometimes you gotta. Complete waste of your time an money, unless its a hobby like a trainset...

Id play a maplestory that didnt suck, or an updated uo. But the 2d graphics would still have to be modern.

Why would I go back 20 years?
Are there regrets?

If the art/graphics were good and up to date amongst 2d games, and the game had literally everything I would enjoy in an MMO, absolutely i'd play it.
Would you though? It would have to be something bloody special, like the graphics were Magritte and I could eat the apple.

Haha I have no intention of making a 2d game, was just curious to see peoples reactions.
Why do some people hate 2D graphics so much? 2D graphics can be pretty amazing.
2D games can look absolutely gorgeous. Just because we've switched to mostly 3D graphics doesn't mean 2D graphics are automatically inferior in all ways.
Dungeon Fighter doesnt even come close to all the features of a standard mmo and I enjoy the hell out of it. Id play 2d 3d, any d as long as its fun.
You gotta play games for what they are, not for what you are. If that makes any sense, heh.
Just in most ways most ppl care about

I can play a 2D MMORPG if it had features that I like.
I play 2d games even when they don't have it all. It's just one of those things you get a craving for if you grew up on those sort of things.
The only thing I can suggest for future 2D mmo's, DO NOT orientate it around children..
Most people who are still able to appreciate a 2D/isometric view are well into their adult years now, just keep that in mind during the game design andart direction process, and it would probably do quite well.
I think plenty of 2D MMOs do specifically target children... and judging from the success of some of those games, it apparently works to them. So it's not necessarily a BAD decision, just a target market that's being mined awfully hard.
I do agree there's a fairly open market for more adult-oriented 2D games. ... and by that, of course I mean maturity level, not T&A.
Brings a whole knew meaning to duels

If there was a 2d space action/twitch-combat game with a huge non-instanced/persistent universe to explore with smooth and engaging combat along with space oddities and anomalies while still centered around PVP. Add some asteroid mining for money for upgrades to your ship and a bit of piracy danger lurking around to have yourself one interesting 2d space shooter mmo.
I would play it in a heart beat. Because currently the 3d environment cannot support such a thing with today's technology.
Graphics is not important. Game play is.
