Starvault has left a bad taste in my mouth two months ago. I am not surprised the MO community is causing some trouble on the forums that they have to tighten the rules. StarVault doesnt take care of there customers.
Example. I decided to try out MO last month on the trial offer. MO really sounded like a neat sandbox other then the obvious bug issues. Anyway, I made a character and after about 3 hours in game, I decided to go explore. As I am exploring the area I saw a large arena. I walked into the arena since the gates were opened and explored the side rooms inside. When I came back to the gates, they were shut. They wouldnt open upon clicking on them and no visible levers.
So I petitioned for a GM with a description of my issue and waited for an hour and got no response. I then decided to wait until the next day and see if they moved my character. Nope. So I went into the forums and found a topic someone made of the same problem two weeks prior. The response in it was from a community member is that its a known bug and to petition a GM and one should show in a few minutes. That didnt work last time so I posted on the same topic politely explaining the issue and doing so would bump up the topic again. Another 24 hours went by and a Moderator finally posted on the topic saying wait until the next event and the gates will open. The moderator then closed the thread so no more posts can be made. Also, the next scheduled event was not scheduled for another 3 days.
That game me an impression that they dont care about there customers and therefore they lost any chance of me forking over money to purchase the game that potentialy could have been great and fun for me.

Now StarVault has declared a dramatic increase in moderation including doubling of ban lengths and infraction points as well as a general increase in posts being moderated.
I would like to inform everyone to expect an increased presence from the moderation team both on IRC and the Forums. This means that actions that previously were left alone, will now be acted upon. I would advise that more thought is put into making the posts, as any single "One Liners", or even "One Word" responses will be removed.
At the same time please familiarize yourself with the new infraction times, as they have been updated to reflect the increase in moderation. As a general rule, expect ban lengths, as well as infraction point lengths to be double of what they used to be in the past.
The Mortal Online forums are there to enjoy and discuss things in a positive environment, any outright negativity, trolling, or insulting will be subject to moderation, for those that have already been abiding by the rules, nothing should change only for those who have been "borderline" will find themselves dealt with much sooner.

Slapshot you are strange - why make all these negative posts about MO? Seriously if you do not like the game then walk away.

I don't like the way they deal with the rep system.
I got a infraction for -repping someone because i disagreed with the the context of their post which promoted grieving.

so what do you -rep people for then? and is this really worth a infraction?
i think every -rep i got would cause every person to get a infraction then, since obviously its ok to randomly -rep someone.....
they changed the rep system from something that you could send compliments to people for their posts, to a system that "rewards" people for being "helpful"
well guys guess what :P just write, "helpful post" from now on when you rep someone.

Their customer service is pretty lousy most of the time. Mainly when it comes to missing items/mounts. Their lack of a release date on Dawn is also very bad.

Launch? The games been out for a good while now. It's basically a company that is almost scamming it's users. By this time next year, if not sooner, the game will be dead.
Oh, and one other thing - the official forums of just about every other game operate in about the same way.
I have never seen a foum where "any single "One Liners", or even "One Word" responses" were as policy banned....Well.. I have now, but never before.
Seriously, it's too easy for a poster to open up 10 threads and type non-constructive and intrusive variations of "this game sucks" or "this game's awesome". Or, 20 threads. Or 30 threads.
What you describe is not what is under discussion here. It CLEARLY says "any single "One Liners", or even "One Word" responses".
No where does it say.."open up 10 threads"
This is NOTHING like any forum of any game I have ever played.
So you think that the guy at the top of this post brought something to this topic with his "ok" post. I see no problem with them getting rid of that crap. If all you can respond to this is ok then you probally have more problems at hand.. like forming sentences.

"The Mortal Online forums are there to enjoy and discuss things in a positive environment, any outright negativity, trolling, or insulting will be subject to moderation"
That is the part that bothers me. Any outright negativity. So if the new patch comes out. . eventually. . and someone like me who is watching the forums to see how the launch goes checks in they will see nothing negative. . only "positive environment". That sounds like garbage to me.
The purpose of the system is very imprecisely defined - so much so, it's easy for mods to become abusive.
To the mods: What is a "good" post? What is a "bad" one? Perhaps just as importantly, what does each individual mod consider to be a good or bad post, because that's the requirement that will need to be satisfied. As posters, we need to be able to predict what each individual mod thinks is a good post or a bad one.
Obviously, that criteria is simply too subjective, and yet warnings and infractions are going to be doled out as a result of not guessing correctly. Very unprofessional.
Furthermore, the text boxes are woefully inadequate for anything more than a "Twitter" type entry, so again I ask the mods: how are they supposed to be used? What are we expected to type in that laughably small box?
It's pretty rare to find such unclear and potentially abusive policies being promulgated by a professional organization. Yet, here we are.

There are critical posts on the official forums every day, just as there are positive ones.
A positive environment does not mean "only positive posts allowed". It does mean that they will control the environment so that the people who pay to play the game and use the forum will be able to do so effectively. Just about every company manages the environment of their official forum in the same way.
It's different from the environment fostered by MMORPG.com here, which is free to the user, and generates revenue based on advertising.

Negativity is very subjective, and SV just adapts it to sack whoever they like when they see a post they dislike.

Wow. Simply linking to a thread on here can get you permabanned on the official forums?!?!
ROFL. That is incredible!
sheesh, I'm done following this game. I'm never resubbing nor am I going to install their trial. These forums here can be a tad obnoxious but to ban for linking to it? This and the Dawn launch = I'm done, this is the worst $58.11 I've ever spent.
not sure why so many people have problems with the MO forums, i have been active on them since 2009 and from my post count you can see that i am a very active member. However when something is broken in MO i criticise it and post my concerns and have never recieved an infraction or ban from the forums. However truth be told i do not use bad/foul language or attempt to insult other players or the gms or have never purposefully trolled the forums or any forum. I dont know the rules of the mo forums i have never read them and havent reiceved a ban for anything so it must just be common sense which is something quite a few people lack i guess.
Sure there are those who dispise MO and hate SV but once they start insulting players devs and genreal trolling they should expect to get banned. I know there are butthurt players on these very forums who were previously banned from MO and now take it upon themselves to discredit the game on its flaws and nitpick over the slightest mistakes. But seriously MO offers soemthing no other MMO can despite its bugs and anyone who has sat down and played MO for a good length of time will tell you that MO is strange beast with bugs and faults aplenty but theres alot of fun to be had and its fun you cant get anywhere else.

I've linked to these forums several times without issue. I think MMORPG was not so much the infraction as part of the method ( i. e. what the MO forum mods considered trolling) Redrocket created his account here 12 days ago and has made 21 negative posts about MO and is walking right up to the line with his comments about china and censorship. There was probably more to his post to give rise to a ban than just a link to this forum.
