Ok, back?
Now go to the GW page and look through the class skills videos. All of them. They're all less than 15s so it won't take long. And REALLY pay attention to how the characters are acting.
Ok...back?
Did you notice how if the scripted event (those videos are ENTIRELY SCRIPTED) wasn't perfect the characters would just sit there and auto attack? Notice in the Thief and Knight video the auto attacks in between skill button spam? Or when the knight put up that projectile reflection shield she just stood there auto attacking? It takes a somewhat trained eye, but you can tell that whoever made the video was trying VERY hard to stop the auto attacking so the video would look better.
It's not ANY different than what TOR or WoW or Rift has. ArenaNet has done an AMAZING job of trying to hide it by scripting out those videos like crazy, but it's still easily noticeable. Don't let them fool you.
I really like the Quest system and how I get to make choices, really got me interested while watching the leak.
I found the Combat very meh, nothing new, exactly the same as Rift or WoW but with lightsabers, they seem to be doing exactly what Rift did, just making the combat flashier.. I can see through the sweet lightsaber movements as just flashy BS to make you feel like a badass..
I dunno unless the pvp is absolutely amazing I think I will still with GW2.

I don't see the similarites myself. GW2 combat looks like the same old same old. TOR's combat doesn't look nothing like that. The biggest diffetrence is you have melee weapons clashing with each other, and that in itself is like no other combat in any other known mmo.
Thats just graphical. And advanced skill still slice through ppl even though they are alive... Graphical =/= mechanics. Which sadly it seems its gonna use the same old same old combat mechanics

Odd, I got the exact opposite feeling. TOR's combat looked same old same old with standing in one spot and swinging away and GW2 combat looked fast paced, fluid and mobile.
All these naysayers make me laugh. It was an old video from a while ago. Evidence of that is purly down to the UI being an old version, as has been shown in multiple developer chats and even the friday feature they put out. THe game has undergone multiple polish passes as well as enhancements and will likely undergo more before E3 and release.

That's the player not the game. You can't judge the game's combat mechanics through how a player uses them. I know for myself, i have never just stood in one spot and hacked and slashed, this guy did.
Same goes with Rift. A nice game. A good game even. But really not the cool revolutionary uber fun we were hoping. Or as my friend put it: "In the end I see just another game like many." Which fits both to Rift and TOR. We will have fun a while and then move on.
You do realize that it's somewhat common practice to alter mob behavior so you can show off skills in videos, right?
GW 2 did it. All of those skill videos they have up are almost entirely scripted events with altered mobs. They are somewhat more entertaining to watch, but what they also reveal is several abilities that have ANNOYING sound effects. And then you hear the SAME EFFECT OVER AND OVER. Watching the paladin (i know that's not the actual class name) class videos I started to feel like a nail was being driven through my skull.
See? I can make barely legitimate complaints about something I know very little about too.
Bioware hasn't actually -shown- anything. We've been shown so really vague footage and they've put up some fairly vague blogs, but we haven't seen anything all that specific yet. The ONLY thing that they have shown in enough detail to make any judgements on is their railed space combat. And that looks pretty entertaining. Would I like a free-form type of space combat? Sure. But I played and enjoyed games like Star Fox and Dragoon and having a feature in the game that is not important AND still gives xp/money/items that looks like those games is fine by me.
I'm not expecting TOR to be anything new. They haven't made any claims that it will be. The only thing TOR has said it will be doing differently is a focus on story, which Bioware is very good at anyway. There aren't any major titles coming up that are going to do anything drastically different. Doing something new, at this point, is impossible. Chances are somebody somewhere has already done it.
GW 2 - nothing new or drastically different
TERA - nothing new, very different combat system though
Blade and Soul - who knows?
Rift - nothing new, more of the same, somewhat interesting soul system.
{mod edit}
What type of ground breaking gameplay are you looking for? Is it something in the line of DCUO has. Or something like APB has. A sorta FPS type style.
Sorry but that's a typical misunderstanding of critique. You don't have to write a perfect book to be a critic of books, you don't have to be a perfect star cook to critizise restaurants, and I don't have to make suggestions to know what is bad because it has been overdone.
You can't in all seriousness tell me, using the SAME THREE attacks over and over and over on glued down mobs was exciting to watch for 1.5 hours!
Please, the guy was low level jedi. How many combat abilites you think he should have. I can compare this game to TSW. If you think just because there will be no levels or classes and you will be able to learn anything or everything. Once you initate combat and you pull out your rifle or bat and won't be spamming that key over and over, your fooling yourself.
As for the NPC AI, they have already said this was taken from a older build and that has been fixed.
I admit, videos only show so far how fun a game really is. Maybe higher level gets more exciting and maybe (hopefully) this was old.
Still, if everything is great and fixed, why don't wee see such a video from Bioware? Why do we see only this HEAVY edited stuff? It just makes things suspicious. ArenaNet talked in great length about gameplay issues, about combat mechanics asf. And there was some really cool stuff. Like the arrows going through fire and catching additional fire damage. THAT is innovative! And that is the sort of combat innovation I would like to see. Not something 100% different, but something more than standing still hack out skill 1-3. I mean, just a bit funny, cool and different here and there to make it more "magic". Here, Bioware seemed to stick all the known and proven, always playing safe.
Again, maybe the final built will be different. That would be great. But I ALSO think we must voice our critique NOW, so there is a chance Bioware works on these things. Better push the game back and make it good.

Well to each their own. I have to say that TOR's combat looks robotic and stiff. Even games like AoC and WoW have better combat, at least on appearances. I'll still get the game because of the other elements the game offers but combat is definitely a weak point for TOR, at least on appearances.

You folks talking about how TOR is all flash and GW 2 is so different need to wake up. It's the same thing, worse even. It's worse because ArenaNet has CLEARLY done an amazing job of fooling people into believing it's something new and different, when it's not. It's the same thing with updated flash and flair.
The only thing interesting in that video is when the Ranger gets raped and he does...he basically pulls a page out of COD and pulls out a pistol to try to shoot people before he bleeds out. Sorry, but it's not new and the last thing I want to be reminded of when I'm playing an MMO is God damned COD.

You really can't because that the only thing combat wise that seperates TOR and GW2. Its good to hear that all it takes to make an origial MMO is the ability to dodge, have one self heal and stuns in combat.

Notice how your not draging your curser over to target something and that dodging actually has an impact on how the enemy hits you?
Take a GOOOOOOOD look. And were comparing a video demo from almost a year ago to something from TOR a day ago, GW2 still make SWTORs combat look like it came directly out of WoW pre-alpha.

I don't care about innovation I care about fun.
