You seem to know awfully a lot about people you never met.

You seem to know an awful lot about who I have and haven't met. Maybe I have, maybe I haven't. Maybe I'm one of them or maybe you are? Who would know? It's the Internet.

Yeah, I was jumping to conclusions there, but... eh... so are you, so we're equally guilty on that front. But even if I did know them in person, it doesn't change the fact that I think that they're a bunch of d*ckhead losers and thus failures in life. If they're in it for the lulz as you say, then why not... you know... make it funny? What fun is there in stealing people's personal information or denying them the possibility to use a service they might enjoy? For them perhaps, but not everybody else. It's the grade school bullying kid kind of lulz that most of us grew out of years ago.

So stop with the hyperboling. This is not terrorism but rather mild Internet criminal activities. The only real victim are the companies who may lose alot of money from this. Still not terrorism though.

I was thinking more along the lines of people stealing identities, fraud, etc. There is no part in defining terrorism that limits it to physical acts. I'm glad you've convinced yourself that you know the appropriate cut-off level of fear where people can use the word terrorism.

I sort of understand where you're coming from. It's not an attempt to blow things out of proportion using the word terrorism to align it with the same level of severity as something like 9/11, but terrorism is exactly what it is. If they weren't targetting specific targets, if they weren't assaulting US government websites, then maybe it would just be juvenile acts.

PS. TQ is back up. I set a long ass queue just in case lol.

Also, isn't it funny how these internet assaults by this kiddie farm started after grade school let out for the summer?

There's no online game I care so much about that I couldn't go without for a few days or even weeks.  Now when they manage to hack into my playstation 1 and delete my Final Fantasy 6-9 ultimate save files, I'll be pissed.

eve was back online but taken back down. servers should be back soon.

  • mrw0lfmrw0lf Member Posts: 2,269

Attack the us senate site, annoying. Attacking our mmo's, cut their nuts off. When these fkers start hacking the pron sites, that's when the shit's gonna hit the fan. Roves of gimps in the street searching for these bitches to beat to death with their strapons.

no way to back online soon since it's obvious that lulz hasn't given up attacking yet.... and that's the reason ccp took server down again.

  • KothosesKothoses Member UncommonPosts: 931

Because CCP are a vast global congolomorate, hopefully now the idiots who try and justify this as some kind of social justice or sticking it to the man thing will grow the F**k up and realise this are criminals out for them selves.

You are just soft on "cyber terrorism"!!...  You can't show these Enemies of Humanity any mercy! Water board them and then ship them off to Gitmo I say!... Thats the way to deal with Enemies of The Home Land! <starts foaming at the mouth>... ^^

The tragic part of this is, that the politicians and hysterics are going to use these peoples antics to impose ever more regulations and control on everyone.  They will no doubt be cheered on by the various Useful Idiots, who in their short sighted rage and ignorance, either can't or refuse to see where this is all headed.

This is annoying.  Those of us that have jobs and wives (and lives) that get up every day and bust our asses to pay for fun stuff like EVE are being inconvenienced by chunky little twits with cluster B personality disorders that don't have the guts to go out and at least TRY to talk to a girl.

Maybe if we all pitch in and try to get these people a little booty (and some face time with a few good psychiatrists) we won't have to deal with constant clean-up and charity work in yet ANOTHER aspect of our lives.

Yeah, I know nihilism seems romantic when you are 13.  Trust me, having a life makes you a LOT more attractive to women :)

Overall I think the outcome was favorable.  I think one of the skills I had training that had 7 hours on it up and completed since the server went down meaning CPP gave us some form of SP boost... so I got out and had some fun to come back to a smaller skill que.

If they just wanted to expose vulnerabilities I would have been fine with this. But the moment they started to post stolen customer information as torrents on internet, I was against it. Bethesda, Sony, some big american bank, American senate website, the list goes on.

Now it also seems that its all about what they demand. CCP made something for PS3, and they are against Sony, so CCP has to be hit. The fact that they hurt innocent customers in the process, they dont give a shit about. They act as if they are the law.

I agree with others that there is nothing noble about the way they work, its pure vandalism.

Dont misuse that word. I know Americans are known for hyberboling and where you before saw a communist around every corner now everyone are terrorists instead.
I mean they are not causing bodily harm and the attack is purely virtual and does not affect life critical systems. At most they are Internet criminals.

I tend to agree - Terrorism is a bit harsh of a label to apply to this.

If a bunch of people went to a baseball game and stinkbombed it, and forced everyone out of the park, it would be essentially the physical equivalent of a DDOS attack. No one really gets hurt, but no one can enjoy the baseball game either.

Similarly, if someone went to the baseball game and pickpocketed a bunch of the crowd and made off with their credit cards and driver's licenses, that would be more or less what happened to Sony. That's more than just not being able to watch the ballgame, that threatens people - not just financially, but also from the risk of identity theft. Totally different sort of crime.

Sure it's a crime. It's very frustrating and inconvenient. I don't know that it qualifies as terrorism. It's hardly on the level of suicide bombers or hijacking and airliner.

Now, if they start hitting up the Utility grid, and say, force a hydroelectric plant offline and flood, or brown out a city and drop power to a hospital, then that probably would qualify as terrorism.

I would call it vandalism. Although its comparable to how a gang operates, they attack what they dont like. So it could be called terrorising the internet too.

Terrorism almost always includes violence. There is no violence here and no bodily harm. So those people that wants to call this terrorism and crimes against humanity and what not, need to take a trip to a country where these things actually occur.

Maybe that will get them some perspective on the situation.

Like the person above said, this is vandalism and possibly theft, no more and no less.

Guys... this is a war, other kind of war... but still a war.

I'm waiting to see a war that doesn't affect several innocent life's. This is the same thing.

This guys have their statements, whatever they are. And I'm pretty sure no one would consider this serious if "us" the "innocent" people, wouldn't be affected by it. It's just the way society work.

Try to hack Sony and don't hit the innocent... you would never know. Sony wouldn't care because no one knows and no one was affected. So they just use their cash to grow fat, don't invest in security to protect our data etc etc.

To bad that people only manifest when they are directly impaired by any kind of crap.

Probably some of "our" posters or EVE players have been enlisted in the army, of any country that participated in the war in Iraq. And how many innocent life's have been destroyed by his participation. Even if none... at least they sided with the "lulz power machine". (this is just one example... sad or not.. it is a simple example)

I could go with the example of wood from Amazonia... how many of you buy stuff manufactured with wood from Amazonia. Do you even check the provenance? How many natives are affected by the irresponsibility of us costumers? Maybe we should make our statements too. Don't buy stuff made of wood that comes from there... many people will lose their jobs but maybe some natives are saved in the process.

    This crap applies to everything.

Power machines grow fat.. do little for you. You make a statement... thousands of innocent people get affected... they revolt against the statement guys and keep buying PS3 and grow fat the companies that do little to zero for you.

Oh well... i don't know if lulzsec got any statement to make. if its serious or what are their intentions (maybe its some plot made by huge corrupted people, trying to get more of our cash to "secure da internetz").

Whatever.. this is how it works... more or less. My english sucks in case its more for the less. I tried.

    Hello everyone,

I am playing Eve-Online when time allows. Yesterday I was playing my game as I finally got some spare time from the wife and kid.. Server went down.. and again.. bye bye relaxing time.. Anyway, hacking or attacking companies.. What is the point of that ? Distributed Denial of Service attacks against gaming industry does not only affect the global economy when company throw the towel in the ring..

The persons performing these DDOS are victimizing the people that pay for such services. Games are meant for entertainment. Most MMORPG's (Eve-Online, World of Tanks etc..) of these days have large scale combat (Raids vs Raids etc..) It is a known fact that some people take certain games way to serious in a negative way. I’ll give a few examples from Eve-Online..

    Eve-Online - 2006 Ascendant Frontier vs BoB

Mid-end 2006 BoB managed to find a way to crash nodes where complete fleets were kicked and later wiped off the battlefield. Later teamspeak/ventrilo services were shut down in order to disturb communication (out of game) ASCN disbanded early 2007..

Currently, Bigger alliances seem to attack each other out of game instead of in game in order to achieve whatever they want to achieve in game. Whether this done by shutting down external communication or websites/forums etc. should be punished in court for breaching privacy and whatnot...

How will games work in the future ? I mean, nothing wrong with a bit of competition of course.. The only fear I have are the players that are about to lose a match/fight (whatever) shutdown a gaming server with the idea that they at least will have their stuff when they log back in? Or clan vs clan matches are interrupted by such attacks just to keep their 100% win stats?

Let's hope that this is not the case & sorry for the mini wall of text...

    Regards,

    Dran
