No. Diablo is a isometric action RPG and GW2 is a full-fledged MMO. It is no different from comparing WoW to Diablo.

Lol, what the hell are you spouting on about?

GW2 has been playable at gaming conventions and press shows since 2009,the first being Cologne Germany.

Ill buy both but if it came to a choice of one, which it wont, i would buy GW2 all the way.

I think the OP  should of worded it a bit different maybe. I think he/she is not trying to say they are both the same genre of game, but that they are both gonna cost you a purchase. So assume you have limeted funds and cannot afford to buy both in the same month. If they were both released which would you pick up first?

Maybe he/she did mean to compare them and if so i appologised, but i really fail to understand the vulcun logic that people use on these forums. If they aren't the same genre then we shouldn't compare them blah blah, by the same logic they are both games that will run on a desktop PC. :P

and to answer. I am leery of what Blizzard/activision did with SC2 and their plan to release basically the same game 3 times. So I am leaning toward GW2

    GW2 is a MMO, Diablo3 isnt.

If GW2 releases and is of the expected quality, it will certainly affect my chances of purchasing D3...  but not the other way around.

Diablo 3 looks really uninteresting. I'll buy, it play it, for nostalgia.

But its in the same boat as Duke Nukem as far as I'm concerned.

Much more interested in Guild Wars 2 than some shallow hack'n'slash game.

If your mommy brings home a fresh apple from the gwocery store, will that affect whether or not you eat that orange in your fwidge today?

yeah, no kidding.  Actually, I think that GW2 is the one MMO sequel (and how many are there?  FFXIV?  EQ2?  does the upcoming Warhammer 40k game count as a sequel to WAR?) that actually does what a sequel should do...improve and fix the game that came before it.  What does D3 have going for it?  new graphics?  spiced up classes?  more story for nostalgia's sake?

I'm not interested in D3 at all, so the answer to the original question is no.

I used to TL;DR, but then I took a bullet point to the footnote.

    Back to OP...

Well... Imo those 2 really don't compare so they dont impinge one each other's turfs. Each game will be judged on its own merit..

That being said, I kinda got a fishy feeling about D3. I'm a huge fan of D2 and still play it ocassionaly, but somehow it seems to me that, from what I've seen and heard so far, the Blizz crew pretty much ditched everything that's drawn me to D2.

I suspect it's going to be a hugely over-produced, polished and "focused" game with craploads of pre-heated "heroic" story and no soul. Even the gfx that I've seen look sterile and uninspiring to me. Simplifying some "loot-whore" mechanics was the final nail in the coffin for me. It is almost as if Bliz got embarassed by the kind of appeal their game had (blatant loot-whoring materialism combined wth grit and total unbalanced insanity at higher difficulty levels, which I love) and decided to go all middle-agey with story and balance and rainbows in the sky crap.

In short, D3 looks more like "WoW2 super-simple with limted viewpoint and solo play option" than "Diablo 3 badder, meaner and nastier."

I might be wrong, I usually am. But I know I'll pre-order GW2 and wait and see for D3.

well D3 have still to impress me, chopped my 2 favorite classes, maybe region lock like SC2, blizzard getting more money...

Well if it´s dont become a fiasco like Dungeon Siege 3 i maybe try, but if i had to chose between D3 and Torchlight2 for a hack&slash juice, i will come with Torchlight2.

    And GW2 for sure.

    now: GW2 (11 80s).
    Dark Souls 2.
    future: Mount&Blade 2 BannerLord.
    "Bro, do your even fractal?"
Recommends: Guild Wars 2, Dark Souls, Mount&Blade: Warband, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.

why would D3 affect an mmo release?, two different playerbases.

I will definitely be buying GW2.  In fact, I'm almost certainly going to buy multiple copies as gifts for friends and family as well.  I don't even really know what ArenaNet could announce which would be a dealbreaker for me at this point.

Diablo was a game I never really got into.  I played the first one for a while and the 2nd one flew under my radar somehow.  I'll look for reviews of the 3rd one but unless they're glowing I might pass.  I played Torchlight and enjoyed it for a while but it got old.

No interest in D3 at all, GW2 al the way

I have no intention of buying anything Bobby Kotick is associated with. Blizzard is no longer the same great company they used to be. What was once comprised of developers who genuinely loved gaming and creating games have been replaced by CEOs in monkey suits who have never touched a video game in their lives, and thus don't know anything about designing games, yet they are given the authority to make such decisions. Interesting.

ArenaNet seems to be doing everything right so far. They're a small company that make changes according to what they and their testers feel is necessary to make the game as great as possible. Guild Wars 2's artistic direction is unlike any game out there (though it kind of reminds me of Okami for the PS2 at times), the music is being done by Jeremy Soule who is easily one of the greatest video game composers out there (he was also in charge of the soundtrack for the Elder Scrolls series) and the gameplay itself looks satisfying. I'm not saying it's going to be the best game ever, but it certainly looks far more promising than anything else we're seeing.

Choosing between those two will be too easy for me, having played D2 for the last 6 years.

With how much time some people spent playing it, it might as well be.

That said D3, After watching the lastest under water combat I have lost all interest in GW2.

I can chew a gum while walking. I can play two games in the same timeframe...

Not really much of a decision for me.

I haven't liked any game Blizzard has ever made.  From what I've seen of Diablo 3 I don't think it will become the exception.

This thread is kinda funny, reminds me of playing Vanilla wow and reading the forums there and seeing the daily thread from some disgruntled Diablo 2 player who couldn't understand why he could run every dungeon solo like in d2.

For me I'll take a wait and see approach for both games to many times I've pre-ordered the next great thing and been bored 3 weeks later(or 3 days later in star trek online but i went into that hoping for the future last game i did that with).

I used to play D2 a lot ten years ago or so. That was before I got into the whole MMORPG business. Since D3 is not a MMO ----> GW2>D3 for me.

No. I don't even know why people think it would.
