Oh, I think people are overestimating Blizzard's originality. Warcraft I, II, III. Starcraft I, II. Diablo I, II, III. Ummm, yeah. a paragon of originality.
Blizzard makes the avatar and titanics of the video game world. And they do it well. No they are not the most original but they are good at what they do, and that is no reason to knock em.
I don' think it's a knock so much as an observation in response to a previous post that Blizzard will bring something along that will radically change he way MMORPGs are played. Blizzard may develop the next big thing but I don't think it's a certainty. Hopefully, at least one of these new games pans out and gives us all tons of fun for years and years
I just remember my cousin and I getting so excited to be smugglers at launch in SWG. Then we played the game and spent hours beating up on small critters and their homes, with the highlight of watching those poor critters, who really didn't do anything to deserve our wrath, die and have their house explode like the death star. But it wasn't the death star. It was a poor critters home that had nothing to do with smuggling. Then my cousin and I quit.
Then we came back for the NGE when we heard it was on the test server and all I remember is standing outside the Millenium Falcon listening to somebody (Han maybe?) yelling "Get on the ship kid, this place is gonna blow!" But I never could get on that ship. Then the NGE went live. Then we quit again. SWG2? No freakin' thanks.
I will be trying TOR, though, because it is Bioware, and I've loved all their single player games and I'll gladly give them the benefit of the doubt at trying an MMO. I figure worse case I buy the game and play through the story a few times and still get my money's worth. Just wish the collector's edition wasn't so steep in price, ouch.
Sandbox games are really a specific market that a lot of MMO gamers feel less inclined to waste their time with. Raids, action and content seems to be what most folks want, they don't care to live in a game. I would love to see another big Sandbox MMO like SWG, but I won't expect it. Pretty much the only options out there for most of you folks who want sandbox is Second Life or something like that.

As did many others. Killing a bunch of defenseless creatures isn't very heroic. I never felt like I was in the Star Wars universe when playing Galaxies. It always felt like a paralell universe.

I quite not to long after myself. The only reason I stuck around the game and put up with all its frailties was my guild. Once they left, I left.

I ain't paying that much either. I'm waiting until after release and the all the first day kinks are ironed out.
Oh, I think people are overestimating Blizzard's originality. Warcraft I, II, III. Starcraft I, II. Diablo I, II, III. Ummm, yeah. a paragon of originality.
All of these were original IPs created by Blizzard and the fact that they have multiple games in each universe just proves how good they are. So I think that it is you that is underestimating Blizzard.

Glad to hear someone else tell the truth about what SWG was, and to be honest I liked the game but it bothers me to hear people say that "SWG was like Star Wars and TOR is not".
The things that were the mainstay of SWG were the things that appeared in the original trilogy for all of thirty minutes or so, many SWG vets mistake the fact that they thoroughly enjoyed themselves with SWG providing an experience that was like Star Wars.
Lets be honest if the original trilogy played out like the world we inhabited in SWG those films would not be what they became.
SWG honestly reminded me of what Star Wars maybe would have been if it was a television show (and a bad one at that). and the NGE if it was an attempt to add a more star wars type of experience was a very bad attempt at best. all there was to it was the legacy quest line which was a very simple element that added very little to the game.
If anything TOR is what a Star Wars mmo should have started out as.
Seriously, somebody stuck with that game after the two major upgrades CU and NGE? Especially a role player? Upset about the friends she could have made? F*ck you Bioware? Ouch, some crazy youtube stuff, haven't seen this before...

Warhammer says hi.
OMG only one game can have orcs, and elves and be fantasy

And considering that WarCraft and StarCraft were based on WarHammer and WarHammer 40k.
And, yes, WarCraft was spawned from a WarHammer game that Blizzard was working on that got scrapped (Games Workshop yanked the license away when the game was in development).
They changed just enough names, etc to avoid copyright infrigement and WarCraft was born.
Blizzard makes good games, yes, but hardly original.

Warcraft does not equal Warhammer
No but didn't they say Warcraft was heavily based on Warhammer..or that it was meant to be Warhammer but couldn't get the rights.

Somw SWG fans really do have the stragest case of nerd rage I have ever seen. Just don't understand all the drama over a video game.

SWG is more of a social / community thing than a video game, and appeals to a range of people. I have not seen one female gamer from SWG say they are going to play SWTOR, as they mainly play Traders or Ents, which SWTOR will not have. SWTOR is more of a lads game
One will be brandished a "hater" regardless of anything that they say here if its against the opinion of another. Its the absurdity of this place's very community and one of the most notorious things about posting on this website.
I'm basing it off of my own personal experience with SW:TOR at this stage of its developement.
Its very much an episode of the Cartoon Network's "Clone Wars" cartoon. From its foundation to its highest peak.
None of what I've said is negative. If you take it in a negative light, then you have some issues to examine.
So I take it you have not played the game AT ALL. So I will say that your opinion is based on the fact that you have no intrest in the game. TOR is NOT a kids game. WoW is more a kids game then TOR. And that is from my 10 year old who has played both with me. Some of the content is tough for me and 3 guildies. TOR is a fun.

No one said what you are saying is negative but your opinion means nothing if you are basing it on imaginary scenarios. How can you say you know whole game when it is not even out yet? only watching it through stage of development you somehow know entire game? 'opinion' is a great word, people can get away with almost anything no matter how absurd it sounds.

Amazing. Truly.
Actually. I plan to purchase and play TOR. I'm quite a large Star Wars fan.
I continue to state that my above opinions were not negative in nature and that I still stand by them.
Harry Potter is for kids as well. That doesn't mean something is "bad".

SWG was trash after the first year. LA & SOE murdered everything that made SWG cool.

Star Trek Online - Best Free MMORPG of 2012
Perhaps from the perspective of the few remaining SWG players it is.
Something tells me that SWTOR will have more female gamers than SWG has had at its highest peak subscription numbers.
I think that SW:TOR Is absolutely 100% a kids game.
I think it has aspects that can appeal to adults... But by no means is it a mature adult angled product. Its straight up kids stuff.
What do you base this opinion on??
The... whole... game?
His imagination, since that's where he got the idea.
I'd say more, but that would involve violating the NDA.
You don't know about the whole game, neither do i or anyone else except for Bioware.
I think you have to explain yourself further, otherwise all you'll accomplish is being branded a hater.
<childish, provocative and highly speculative banner about your favorite game goes here>
