sold out? since when? it's a pre-order. you actually think the packs are already made and awating delivery or something? most likely they'll just check how many preorders they have a couple of days before shipping them out and simply supplement what they already have "in stock".
and yea, i agree: they should add one more month to the 150$ CE but meh, it's their way of marketing for years "add an action figure or statuette and u can raise the price sky-high" so i'm not really surprised.
CE is sold out on Origin.com... it will be interesting to see how long it takes however to sell out across the board...
Not sure how selling out could be seen as "coming back to bite them"? Selling out pretty much proves that there's a huge market for a thing... the only people it will "bite" are those who held off and didn't buy one, and can no longer get them.
It has nothing to do with them just making a few more. You're talkin about a 75$ statue, a couple of books, and the like. Yes they can just make more but typically they don't. NORMALLY companies get a quote for say 200,000 CE's. That's what they make. RARELY do they make more because product sitting on the shelf will cost them more than it does to make.

When I click the link I'm just prompted to order it. I don't see anything about it being sold out.
If it is sold out, yes it can come back to bite them, they started selling them at ~12 AM PST, with no forward announcement that they'd be up. Some people, are likely going to be pissed if they missed their chance and didn't even know it.
I've seen a number of people who didn't care about the statue, but wanted the rest of the physical swag, those people would have been swayed by an extra month of game time, heck they probably could have made a second version with no statue and 60 days of free play, charged the same price and really made a killing.
And then Bioware would have been called even greedier bastards.
Besides, having a version of the CE without the centerpiece of the whole thing would cheapen the CE. The whole point of a CE is to offer serious fans and collectors something that only the dedicated would be willing to buy. You don't offer someone else everything but the statue. That's cutting yourself off at the knees.

Giving people more options to spend money on your game is never cutting yourself off.

It is if you expect serious fans and collectors to pay $150 for an elaborate CE.
Offering the same exact package without the statue and for less money would mean that people would buy that one and avoid the $150 one. Ergo, they'd be cutting themselves off at the knees. It would be stupid on Bioware's part to do it.
The Digital Deluxe version is the halfway point. It's the game with the in-game goodies added in, and for $80, which is what most games charge for a CE. The big $150 edition is for serious fans only. If you think it's too much, then go for the base game or the digital version.

Not sure if you're seeing something different from me, or maybe not looking closely enough.
On my screen, there's a section labeled "Choose your edition" and a bunch of box art. The one on the far right, the "Collector's Ed." is crossed out, and says "Sold Out!" underneath it.
Coming back to biting them - how is people being pissed about missing out going to affect their desire to play the game? People who want it badly enough, though pissed, will still be there on launch day. It's like when the iPhone 4 came out... sure I wasn't happy that I couldn't get one in the first week, but I still got one... it's not like not having something the 1st day its out make me want it any less. But maybe that's just me?!

But the digital edition does not come with the Collector's store in game (including the lvl 25 speeder and other goodies) or one of the other in game items. So in effect they get SOME but not all the non-material goodies.
I think people are butt hurt thats all. i mean sure i will be playing 6 days before regular people but at least they offered something. BTW had 3 offers for around 4000 Us Dollars for my CE but meh not selling. 10k maybe but not 4 come on.

Huh see it now, but before it wasn't there... maybe I had it cached from last night while looking at it.
It is not just you, but trust me there are people who get pissed about what they preceive to be the slightest hint that they are not entitled to every little thing they want.
Some people just rub me the wrong way. You don't like the price, don't buy it. I mean, if you want ringside seats you're gonna pay more than the nose bleeds. Some people want the CE and will pay for it. This doesn't take away from the average person buying the regular game and playing. All you people bitching and moaning are here to just cause crap.
Good luck with that! I wonder what the monthly fee will be.
Completely agree! the most ive ever paid for any game is 79 for a deluxe edition. I have to say its probably going to bite them in the butt in the future.
And as far as it being the norm, uhm no it's not. Even Blizz wasn't so bold with WoW expansions. (this statement is not directed at OP)
Some of these companies are just mad. I wonder if they are going to charge $20 a month or if they will go freemium because of their craft design flaws. Making the best gear and weapons in game has been the mainstay of most of the best games out there and if you are buying a better item vendor before the release that's pretty much just a buy2win concept in a different form even if its a sub only game.

It doesn't come with the Collector's Edition store or bonus items because it's not a Collector's Edition.
The whole point of enticing someone to drop $150 on a CE for a game is to give them things that no one else can get, like a special store and items that are only available to them. You don't just give those items out to everyone, or make that store available to everyone. That would defeat the purpose of the CE at all.
This is Business 101. It's not hard.
Bioware are offering something extra to the truly dedicated that are willing to drop $150 on a game right now. If $150 is too steep, but $80 is a price you're willing to pay, then you get some, but not all of the same bonus features. Makes sense, since you're only paying half the price that a CE buyer is. Why should you get the same things he does when he's dropped almost twice as much cash as you? If both $150 and $80 are more than you're willing to pay, then just buy the base game. Simple, really.

Really folks... it's like buying a car... there are different levels with different options. Not everybody is willing to dish out the extra cash for plush leather seats and a GPS... but plenty of folks are willing to.
You get whatever you're willing to pay for. For one, I was willing to pay $150 for the CE...

I guess the argument here though is that there are too few options here. It is pretty much Luxury and Economy class, with no options for in between. I think, I don't know I don't really care about the price, but I think that is why people are upset.
The $150 price tag is not a shocker when it is coming from EA. Take a close look at the recent consol games that have/are coming out. Halo and gears for the prime examples. Nomarl edition 59.99, special edition 75.99 or 99.99, legendary edition 150. These come with the extra goodies like, surprise surprise, statues. This is what ToR followed and accepted model from the gaming industry. If no one ever preordered or bought the first legendary edition, which I believe was for halo 3, then this model would have died back then. Instead it sold out, and now the model is here to stay, at least until the companies that are selling games start losing money on them.
Some have, halo reach and killzones legendary boxes didn't sell out, many sit on shelves unsold to this day with their prices dropping like stones. So why did ToR feel safe doing it where halo failed? They limited the numbers 500k is not a lot of boxes, and people know it. That thought of it's 150 bucks run up against theres only so many. People on the fence about the game will buy it just for that. I always knew I was getting the collectors edition. I already had over a hundred bucks set aside for it, so it's not some big stretch for me to drop 150.
Others, who don't have the money, or are going through other companies than origin, have to worry about their preorders. Exactly how many of their CE can they fill? With a hard limit at half a million thats a lot of people. But thats half a million in the us and in europe, it's not that tall an order.

They're upset because they want the Ferrari but are only willing to pay for the Lexus.
Bioware are drawing clear distinctions between the CE, the Digital Deluxe and the base game. The game itself is the same in all three editions. What's different are the added luxuries you get depending on how much you pay.

People eat crap like that up, ever been to a comic shop? All kinds of useless over-priced trinkets like that fly off their shelves.

Meh. I don't want the figurine or the soundtracks or the journal. Just all the digital items.
Wish they had a "Digital Collectors Edition" that included all the digital extras for like $80-$100.

I'm personally waiting for a free to play unlimited trial before I subscribe. I hope those who have paid already go on to enjoy the game.
That would be the Digital Deluxe Edition. It's $80 and has all of the same digital items except for the Collector's Edition store and the mouse droid.
Add the store and it'd be worth $80, IMO.

If you want the Collector's Edition store, then buy the Coillector's Edition. That's the point.
