ok, I confess...I am excited about SWTOR. But not before EA launched its massive campaign of making us feel like if we didnt pre-order we would not get a head start, but moreover, if I didnt do it NOW, I would be at the end of the line, since EA is using the order in which you buy the game as the order you get early access.
I initially scorned the CE, but then paranoia set in and I felt that if I didnt blow my hard earned money on the CE I would lose out on the "exclusive store" items that have yet to be revealed, and would regret it later.
Then I flip flopped back and forth between the CE and the Digital Edition, because I really dont want a box, and the CE was a waste of money, as i dont care about the statue it has.
In the end, I bought the CE because there were so many unanswered questions, that I felt I was playing it safe pre-ordering ANY VERSION of the game, and the CE was more of a safety net.
MAN....did I fall for EA's marketing HYPE....NOW look at all those headlines of EA announcing that they broke ALL RECORDS of pre-order sales! THAT makes me SO ANGRY!
EA didnt get those sales because we were all so overwhelmed by the majesty of the gameplay footage, or a demo, of that we were all 100% commited to pre-ordering....NO we mostly gave EA their breaking sales record via a GIMMICK, falling for the panic EA caused making is all feel like we would miss out if we didnt.
Just look at some of the other headlines on gaming sites such as "EA makes gamers HURRY UP AND WAIT".
I dont know about you, but I feel like we were all suckers and fell right into EA's long thought out plan to break sales records via a gimmick. Breaking a sales record and being PROUD of such a feat because we players were very very impressed by gameplay footage or after playing a demo would be realistic, or even under NORMAL circumstances where the pre-order was put out there and the laws of nature where players pre-ordered on REAL INTEREST and NOT PANIC resulted in record breaking sales. THAT WOULD BE SOMETHING TO BE PROUD OF AND BRAG ABOUT....NOT WHAT EA IS BRAGGING ABOUT NOW.
I feel most MMO players are SMART....including myself...but now I cannot help but feel angry and embarrassed that EA is just exploiting the gimmick they used to break such records.
My apologies for the RANT, but this is how I feel.

Most MMO players are quite smart but not wise, a huge difference.
Awareness is the first step to recovery. Good luck, my friend.
Every major release in recent years has used the exact same gimmicks. EA didn't reinvent the wheel here.
Nothing wrong with making a mistake as long as you learn from it. Just don't let it happen again.
I learned a long time ago not to pre-order. I swore to NEVER do it again, and even the SW:TOR hype machine couldn't change that. I'll play it when it comes out, even if I am last to log in, that won't make any difference to me.

i bought the ce edition because i always buy the ce edition of all mmo's that i play. not because i felt i had to or any other reason. im satisfied in my decision and am now awaiting launch. you should do the same and quit bitching about what you feel some company made you do.
Truth.
I havent pre-ordered yet, mostly coz my payment aint in yet :P but never planned to go higher then de Digital "deluxe" version anyway.
the only reason I would want to be in the early acces is to reserve my player name, other then that..items are items and will be there a week later aswell and early acces is not Free time, your payment starts the moment you login the first time , the first few thousend players will have a hard time as the servers will whitout doubt be stressed reaching for a breaking point.
Na, im not worried about early acces, I get in when i get in, name taken..meh, plenty of names to think of.
lol true true

Well, at least you see it now.
I am suprised how many others didnt question how pre orders of a virtual product can be 'limited' in any way lol... you set the number of servers to your pre orders, not the other way round.
It's not like they have a room full of them all stacked up and when they are gone they are gone... :P
Obviosuly worked out for EA though well enough.
Thats what they call markting, thats why they pay tons to profesionals in order to study the public, players in this case.
I'm guessing they did a pretty good job, if it makes u feel better we all have these momentary buying compulsion cuz <span class="hps" title="Clique para obter tradu
I was always going to pre order the game so it does not bother me.I just want to know when its coming out and sub cost.
Yep I don't think anyone was forced to buy anything. Everyone had a choice to make and we made our choices.
I look at it as a greed issue on both sides of court.
EA knows that by adding ingame perks people will buy the CE so they add in some exclusives, just like every other MMO company out there.
The player wants as much as he can get in game and has to have all the shiny bling and wants people to know they were here from the beginning and if that means buying the CE for the ingame extras then thats what we do.
Think its funny how all these people pre order then get pissed when a game comes out unfinished and released to early, or they just plain dont like it . (rift)
You think by now everyone who does this would have LEARNED by now, but it just goes to show how smart some people are.
They just never learn and keep jumping the gun hoping they can get in the game first and beat the competition.
I will wait to see how the game is before i buy a product that isnt even out yet!
But to each there own , its your money have at it post here and let me know how it is .
Ill sit back and eaither laugh or ill buy the game once you all test it for me ..
Mmo's have changed over the years obviously and has become more about competing then grouping and enjoying the game itself (in my opinion) and everyone else ive talked to in game .
Got burnt by the per-order buzz a couple of years ago and swore I'd never fall for it again.
Being honest I refuse to pay the €50+ price tag for a new game so I wait for the price to drop a bit before buying.
I'm interested in TOR and looking forward to trying it. If the CE is still available when I am happy with the price I may pick it up, besides the other "golden rule" I go by with MMOs is give them 6 months or so to get past the initial bugs etc and get some updates put up. if still interested at that point (and some decent updates coming from Dev team) then I'll buy.
Doubt I'll be picking up SWTOR before 2012 tbh.
Aww come on, don't be so hard on yourself. A Star Wars MMO is a once in a lifetime event!.. Oh wait... it isn't. Well... XD
People don't ask questions to get answers - they ask questions to show how smart they are. - Dogbert
Sounds to me like you haven't learned the lesson of previous collectors editions, thus buyer's remorse?
The extra loot is just never worth the extra cost. If you want to pre-order a game, just get the game (standard edition in this case, sixty bones, no frills).
Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.
So what exactly are you mad about? The fact that you bought the CE when you didn't want to in the first place? I didn't want to spend that kind of money no matter what was in it. I have to buy 2 copies anyway, so 300 bucks wasn't an option. I've been waiting for the preorders to drop so I could order, and I got the deluxe ... and I'm happy. Man up , accept the blame for yourself instead of pointing a finger at the person with no gun.
True true...
I hope everyone realises this and stops supporting it. Everyone is making a mistake here.
If you wanted early in game access, you should of went to a store, gamestop or best buy, and pre ordered there. If you go to a store and pre order, it costs 5 bucks without having to pay for the full game. You still get your code, but if you don't like your experience in early in game access then you dont have to buy the actual game.
Don't buy collectors editions, don't see the sense in preordering a video game. Do not care about a head start. So sorry mate I don't have much sympathy for those who let their obsessive compulsive urges defeat their common financial sense and now feel bad about it. No one conned you into anything except your own damn self.
"Gypsies, tramps, and thieves, we were called by the Admin of the site . . . "
Well I didnt pre-order but I understand how you feel. Anyway, what it's done it's done, just wait for the game to release and have fun with it and next time you feel the rush to preorder remember how you felt with this one.
Did you know that the word "gullible" doesn't even appear in an English dictionary?
'Tis true! Little known fact!
Check it out.
Na...I got the digital deluxe version from Origin and had my code in about three minutes after purchase. I then bought the CE for myself from Amazon and got that code in about a minute or so.
By the way, I think the assumption in this thread is off. The OP may have bought out of a panic but most of my guild of 400+ and my friends had planned to pre-order already as soon as pre-orders came out. I actually think most people bought the game pre-order because they intended too. If you followed the SWTOR forums this was obvious for the forum people as well.
In regards to the game launch and quality I think there has been plenty of information to lead us to the fact this will be a stable and polished game from the get go. I have seen TONs of gameplay and studied all the game features. The game looks very fun and engaging so I am confident in my purchase.
I am exited, too.
What I do not understand is why you feel you need a head start, at all?
A head start in a game? It's not the race to a gold rush.
What are you afraid to miss if you join later? Hours of waiting in a login queue on an overcrowded sever b/c they can't bring on enough in the beginning?
A game that mostly is played against NPCs and simulates your very own personal story. Do you expect the story to become less epic if you start a month later? Even if you prefer PvP - so what? It is not hardcore PvP that a headstart would give you a huge advantage.
A game that is most probably not completely ready for launch (I mean Bioware or not, it's the MMO market and there is EA lurking in the shadows, counting your money).
You pay 150 bucks for the honor of being one of the first few tenthousand of hundredthousand or million players, to play on one of the first couple of servers amongst dozens or hundreds of servers to come. Is that worth it?
It's not like that they say "Ok we have so and so much subscribers, enough profit for good old EA, let's not sell any more copies and open-up new servers"
For what else? For some shiny virtual blingbling?
Wow.
You pay 150 bucks to be "a chosen" beta tester, ok, maybe "gamma" tester.
Just wow.
I salute you, sir!
With enough of you patriots the game will be awesome and polished like a diamond when I get around.
And now you feel cheated and manipulated?
Don't scorn the CE, scorn yourself. Oh except this is your first MMO...
The world of MMO's is changing, if ToR is a hit, more MMO's will continue with the subscription model and big games will continue to be released. If ToR bombs, the time of full scale MMO's will be gone and free 2 play will be the new standard and you can kiss big game launches like Rift and ToR goodbye.
If Tor is good then you didnt waste your money and if it bombs you have the CE of the last big MMO to be launched which would make a nice collectors piece. Either way, I think you will eventually be happy with your purchase.
