This was one game I was going to preorder, I had it preordered over a year ago at gamestop and when they opened the preorders I decided to go with the CE on origins less that 20 minutes after the orders opened. I honestly don't feel cheated by EA at all. It's called buyers remorse, if it's not something you really wanted then you regret it the next day. The good news is you can cancel your preorder of the ce, order a lesser edition and be later in the head start, but you save some money. In the end of the day it boils down to marketing, EA did it very well. A: They got the preorders. B: They broke records with them so they will get more preorders.
Or as they used to say "Don't hate the player, hate the game." Marketing is a game, it's a type of seduction, you got seduced and now the walk of shame begins. The players that wanted the CE, planed to buy it from the get go, they arn't doing that walk. They got what they wanted and are skipping down the street. Tough as that may be to swallow none of this is anything new, the artificaly created shortages are based off the nintendo Wii. The beta weekends, which people think are more betay, are based off of Rift which got a lot of preorders by giving just a speratic taste of their game to gamers. The price of the CE comes firstly from halo 3. Nothing EA did was new. So it's really hard to be mad at them, after all we've seen this all before.
Sorry, but I have a hard time feeling any sympathy for someone that paid for the CE and is now claiming buyers remorse because of a sales recoord. No one held a gun to your head and there was other options besides the CE if you couldn't wait for release. Suck it up and stop blaming others for your personal weaknesses. That's how I feel.

I knew I wanted a CE. I didn't care how much it cost, or really what it contained TBH. I was hoping for maybe an art book or "behind the scenes" DVD. I didn't care about the head start. I simply knew when they became available I was going to order one.
I didn't get sucked into any scheme or marketing plan. I want the game. Preorder became available. I ordered one. They could have not said a word about the game in six months, I still would have done it.
i'm tired of all this whining. this is a tactic used by many mmo developers...get over it. if you don't like the business modle stop playing mmos period. if you feed the beast it will keep toying with you. personally i hope ea/bioware nets close to a billion in the first year between sales and subscriptions. only because if this games turns out to be half of what star wars fans want we want it to stick around for a while, i'm sick of being uprooted out of mmos i like.
I didn't expect anything less from a marketing department that is paired up with LucasArts finest. I mean... Star Wars is one of largest marketing product lines in the known world isn't it? Any game that is based on a franchise that caters to 'collectors' is going to have it's sh*t together. Don't beat yourself up too badly. You were the victim of ingenious marketing and capitalism at it's finest.
The supply is short! The demand is HUGE! Come one, come all... don't be left behind!! You've been waiting 5 years!! Just chum in the water for famished gamers.
Company creates product they think will have substantial enough demand to make profit.
You buy product because you desire it.
Company profits.
If you're ANGRY a company profited off of your purchase and many others' purchases and posted as such in their financial reports - you need to get a serious grip on reality.
Given the problems and bugs surrounding a lauch, given the inevtible server increases and merges, given how many things will change over the course of the first few months likely negating gains, given that if the game is realt what you want it to be you'll be playing it for a year or more, not to mention the idea of buying it before trying it is almost by definition, foolish, I don't understand the eagerness for a 'head start' in MMO's. I understand the desire for a CE as a souvenier or investment but not as a head start.
I'm not touching this game with a ten foot pole. All that needs to be said is "EA is involved", that there alone is enough to make anyone aware of the dangers of giving them any money. Heck, my own kids have already walked away from this game.
Second my kids were super pumped until they figured out it's kotor (with a sub), so the kids are no longer interested, but now i am and i totally plan to get this game when it's on sale for %50 to %75 off or goes f2p.
Think about this for a few moments, why the urgency, and why are they taking the old sales "trick", BUY NOW, LIMITED SUPPLY, that would really have one wondering, oh yeah they came up with we don't want to many players on the servers, so what happens when it actually does launch then EA??? BS folks, BS.
Also ask yourself this, WHY do you absolutely need to be there before it actually launches, why not a few months later? Avoid all the launch problems, probably get it allot cheaper, more bugs worked out and allot less people in your way in your online single player world. It's an mmo meant to be played for years, and years, (ahhh right now a days it's a month or two, sry i forgot). So you're in a rush to get it and be bored faster than anyone else?
Stuff ain't adding up and i'm getting the impression they are milking what they can from it before the word about how shallow and boring it is gets out. Bookmarking this thread, and I'll link it back up for you a month or two after launch, well even if you care about the game anymore, let alone bother with any forums for it.
Honestly, I wish i could feel better about this game but I don't, and don't let me stand in the way of your hype excitement and pre-launch and launch fun, i know all well how much fun that is but when it all wears off a couple months later two things happen 1) you find out it's going F2P and or it's %75 off and or better monthly rates 2) always wish i didn't drop so much money on it because now all these new players paid hardly anything and they enjoy the game more because it wasn't a huge investment and the game is usually more polished. in retrospect i always read "Hey wait a minute posts" and always right out ignored them, i always figured they were trolls and haters, i guess i was wrong, because every time i didn't listen and look what happened. Then i wondered maybe if i did hold off and hold off for a month or two, maybe a few of those games id still be playing today.
I sat out Rift and thank the MMO gods i did. Stocking up the popcorn looks to be a good show coming this fail, i mean fall. I think my sig is going to be glad i didn't preorder.
Sounds like you lead a very dismal life if you plan on playing something so "mundane and boring" like SWTOR. If you don't want to play it, don't play it. This game won't go F2P for years. As it stands now, estimates on launch numbers are looking to be extremely high, so just from launch capital alone it will be more than enough to pull them through their first year easy, and thats before any updates are announced.
RIFT is actually not doing too bad considering it was one of the least known of MMOs, with over a million players, and they haven't gone Free 2 Play yet, so the chances of SWTOR doing it ..... not even in the realm of possibility in the first year.
As for limited amounts of CE's ... you ALWAYS have limited amounts of CEs, even with games like HALO or CoD, or GoW. What isn't adding up? Well, it all adds up, this isn't new, its actually pretty common. It increases interest and gives people who are really excited what they want -- more to be excited about. Theres no real urgency caused by EA here, not any more than any other company... they said there was a imited supply of CE preorders, but nowhere did they say that everyone had to buy within the next week, the players are the ones that caused the urgency. They never said they'd discontinue the CE, did they? They never said, buy until october or we pull the CE and all you get is the deluxe.
I'm glad EA is involved, if you want to get down to companies and only playing games from ones that don't have problems or haven't wronged their customer base in one way or another your going to end up playing absolutely nothing. EA is one of the biggest publishers if not THE biggest, and their reach spreads to every genre, sub genre, and platform. Boycotting EA these days is like eating a bag of M&Ms but not eating the green and red ones. Its pretty pointless and you just end up missing out on more wholesome goodness.
Naw, i love kotor games. My kids, they were so pumped about this game for well over a year, then they started researching it and went EWWWWW it's one of Dad's boring kotor games, they walked out, i walked in.
The problem is that there are tons people like my kids who are purchasing it on faith and hype alone, they have no clue what they are actually getting and it's going to be pretty lackluster compared to whatever they have hyped out in their minds.
I'll get it once the hype dies down after launch, then wait out the explosive post anger rage wave, and well after all the fanboi's have moved on to fanboi'ing another mmo. Something about picking up a game for chump change when you know other blew hundreds on the same or well improved product you're playing. Probably get some incentive to purchase that peeps didn't even get at launch/pre-order, you already paid the piper they care not for you anymore.
I'll probably pick this up around march next year i figure, you know they are holding out to hammer the holiday season with this one. Then after xmas all the wtf posts will start and yeah, around march, massive price cuts to try and bring in new subs, you know try and inflate sub numbers so you wont want to quit because you think it's the next best thing everyone is playing, all the while most are returning to wow, they will up the incentives for me to buy as well. I can't wait, I'm getting pumped for March already.
Hmmm . . . I don't feel like a fool at all. I had fully intended to order the CE version of the game and did. I had also fully intended to order as soon as it became available and did. The benefits EA and BioWare offered me for doing so are nothing more than icing on the cake for me. Personally I am loving a couple of them, mostly the soundtrack and the book by Master Nost Dural (especially the book).
I think the difference between the OP and myself is that I had made my decision several months ago when I was finally convinced that this game will be VERY well made and fun, while he never made his decision. Instead he let the circumstances make the decision for him by letting himself feel pressured.
In the end though, I can always cancel my pre-order as long as it hasn't shipped yet and so I am good with my situation. After all, I really don't see a whole lot of "bad info" about this game coming out, but I am covered if it does.
"If half of what you tell me is a lie, how can I believe any of it?"

Hey and no way you should. I'm totally happy for those (i'm sure there are many) whom know what they are buying and for those who just have to have everything star wars.
I ended up posting here and somewhat negativity because of my kids.

I said hey guys, that's allot of money you better make sure this is what you want. Off they went on their mission. Then i start hearing Hey, this looks like all cut scenes, then i hear Hey this is just a crappy kotor game (boring to them not to me).
KOTOR!!! That's when I'm "fill me in(interested)". The oldest said to me, i'm afraid to report it's a kotor game with a shallow, i win button combat sytem. Thier bad news is my good news. There off talking about 40k or something like that now, and i'm not out $500 bucks just to watch them be disappointed a month after launch.
WEll, whle I've fallen for the pre-order hype in the past, (most recently with Rift and its free mount lure) I really am going to hold off on buying the pre-order this time around. (no, really)
Besides, I'm sure I'll be able to purchase a nice mount in the cash shop.

I have no regrets at all.
Same here mate. If you regret it OP you can just cancel. No one is holding a gun to your head to maintain your preorder. MMO Vet since AOL Neverwinter Nights circa 1992. My MMO beat up your MMO. =S
I bought the CE edition as soon as I seen they were on sale. The statue alone is worth over $60 (if it's anything like the other statue from gentle giants old republic line of statues). No regrets here.
ok, I confess...I am excited about SWTOR. But not before EA launched its massive campaign of making us feel like if we didnt pre-order we would not get a head start, but moreover, if I didnt do it NOW, I would be at the end of the line, since EA is using the order in which you buy the game as the order you get early access.
I initially scorned the CE, but then paranoia set in and I felt that if I didnt blow my hard earned money on the CE I would lose out on the "exclusive store" items that have yet to be revealed, and would regret it later.
Then I flip flopped back and forth between the CE and the Digital Edition, because I really dont want a box, and the CE was a waste of money, as i dont care about the statue it has.
In the end, I bought the CE because there were so many unanswered questions, that I felt I was playing it safe pre-ordering ANY VERSION of the game, and the CE was more of a safety net.
MAN....did I fall for EA's marketing HYPE....NOW look at all those headlines of EA announcing that they broke ALL RECORDS of pre-order sales! THAT makes me SO ANGRY!
EA didnt get those sales because we were all so overwhelmed by the majesty of the gameplay footage, or a demo, of that we were all 100% commited to pre-ordering....NO we mostly gave EA their breaking sales record via a GIMMICK, falling for the panic EA caused making is all feel like we would miss out if we didnt.
Just look at some of the other headlines on gaming sites such as "EA makes gamers HURRY UP AND WAIT".
I dont know about you, but I feel like we were all suckers and fell right into EA's long thought out plan to break sales records via a gimmick. Breaking a sales record and being PROUD of such a feat because we players were very very impressed by gameplay footage or after playing a demo would be realistic, or even under NORMAL circumstances where the pre-order was put out there and the laws of nature where players pre-ordered on REAL INTEREST and NOT PANIC resulted in record breaking sales. THAT WOULD BE SOMETHING TO BE PROUD OF AND BRAG ABOUT....NOT WHAT EA IS BRAGGING ABOUT NOW.
I feel most MMO players are SMART....including myself...but now I cannot help but feel angry and embarrassed that EA is just exploiting the gimmick they used to break such records.
My apologies for the RANT, but this is how I feel.
They did not get me with that crap I bought the digtal dd version thats what I wanted so thats what I got. They did sucker two of my friends into the box ce though. Honestly I kind of wish I had not pre-ordered at all. For one I just am not as sold on this game as everyone else is, and I am very happy in EQ2. If this game gets the WoW community I will not play it no matter how good it is, and to be honest I am afraid its going to. Even if it does not though I really am not sure if its going to be good enough to pull me away from eq2+ this kind of crap is about par for EA and I am not looking foward to giving them my money. I got super pissed at EA when the last fight night came out, and they sold it as finaly having the one punch ko, but then 3 months later took it out because of a few cry babies on the forum. Boxing without one punch ko's they going to take homeruns out of baseball games if enough ppl cry? I will play this game probably but to be honest as soon as EQ3 or Neverwinter comes out I am most likely gone even though I am a hugh Star Wars fan.
I am waiting to find out more, I will probably try it, and buy the CE digital version if I get it. They make you want to get it, so you don't miss things, or the early access....Just like Rift did, and everyone was pissed at Rift for its marketing aspect and the beta key stuff....But it works.
I am gonna wait and get more solid information first. I am not real big into quest based gaming, I don't get a lot of choice anymore it seems, but that and voice over story stuff isn't big in my book either.
I like content, world size, and all types of play pvp/crafting/harvesting/pve, etc... I liked EQ before the instanced LDoN type expansions more, and Vanguard for all its flaws with a big world and nice crafting system. So I will be waiting to get more info on that stuff....Will not be buying the physical CE though, I am not a collector.
You'll feel better like I do right now, now that you're waking up to what the mmo industry truely is today. Once more people start noticing how crappy the devs(theres exceptions of course very little at best) in the industry have gotten, you can be assured you aren't the only one seeing this BS.

Okay, obviously everyones experiences differ, but I personally do not like the EQ / EQ2 communities and have no problem with the WoW community as mentioned in bold above. My reason is pretty simple. I tried all three games and when I tried EQ and EQ2, one of the first things I did was to ask a couple questions in local chat and my answers were always "Oh look, a newb. There's someone to put on ignore." or something close to that affect. After three days of that I deleted the games and threw them away.
On the other hand, when I tried out WoW and asked a question the answer I got back started with "I don't mind helping out a new player, come over to XX so we can talk easier." Unfortunately the game itself I did not enjoy and so I didn't stay with it, but the community was awesome to me. Very helpful and friendly and when people did pick on each other, it always seemed of the good-natured sort of banter you get among friends. The PvP banter was more aggressive, but most people should expect that anyways.
"If half of what you tell me is a lie, how can I believe any of it?"
This is no ones fault but your own. Maybe learn some self control and you wouldn't feel like a fool. The bonus shop will probably have very minimal impact on anyone.
Also, as someone else stated you could probably get a full refund still if you want.

so say we all
I approach SWTOR the same way I approached the Star Trek game.
I pre-ordered it from amazon, to get a beta key, if the game sucks I cancle the game before it ships and I lose nothing.
I do have high hopes for this game but I dislike throwing away money. :-)
played:WoW and Eve off and on 5 years

My opinion is that it's not ea.It's Star Wars baby.
I preordered collectors Because it's Star Wars and Bioware not because it's Ea.
I could have done the same for Battlefield 3 wich i also like but im not a lot of fan.
If u are a fan of starwars and a collector why not get the ce with the statue?
I have preordered ce and along with that i ordered Shae Vizsla statue, you know the female bounty hunter at the first cgi.
So if u like starwars u buy if you dont u simply dont buy.I dont care about Ea

Limited edition CE's and hurry up and buy buy buy , or you might be screwed out of some editional content or an early headstart....
They knew what they were doing.
"When it comes to GW2 any game is fair game"
I am definitely in this boat.
