Lol do remember that if you don't stop those rabbits in GW2 from eating all the cabbage, the food merchant will be out of cabbage stew (which may be a nice healing/buffing food).. course then again just because you kill a bunch the merchant may actually have rabbit stew instead of cabage stew.

lol I love how connected GW2 is. That player actions (as simple as killing the rabbits who are eating the farmers crop) actually have relatively long term effects on the game world.

Something like that in an MMO would just make me grin from ear to ear with gaming delight. LOL  I love the very IDEA of it.  These are the kinds of little things that really make me fall for a game.  It's those tiny attention to detail things that matter so much to me in the long run.  Maybe that's just my personality, but those are the things that bring me the most immersion in the game environment.

I imagine people will be grouping to do these events. Especially guilds. I know I'll try to join a guild early on and do the content for the first time with others.

Something like that does exist. Farmers having their farms destroyed will affect some of the market products from the near cities.

I also remember an example where if the wolf creatures in the woods spawn too much, and players don't help stop them, they come out of the woods and hunt other "prey."

Actually the game features a soft grouping mechanic. You gain the benefits of being in a group without actually being in one lol. Everyone gets full xp for kills, full loot/loot rolls on kills, bonuses based on perticipation in the event, etc. You can group but with a max group size of 5 (thats right, no raid grouping in the game) it's kind of pointless to group for anything but dungeons. :)

That said you can absolutely do this stuff with your guild, and the cool thing is everyone can get together to do it no matter their level. If your to high you'll be temporarily de-leveled to be slightly over the contents level and if your to low you can be sidekicked and up-level temporarily to participate as well. On top of that being dynamic also means that the challenge increases based on particpation. The more guildies you have at one big high level event, the more challenging the encounter is. :)

It's new ideas and mechanics like these that are really making this game feel trully 'next gen', even though I generally hate that term and consider it a marketing buzz word, for GW2 I think it is simple fact.

Yes, these soft grouping mechanics, along with the "sidekick" system will go a long way towards helping socialization within the world. Especially since competition isn't promoted within the server, but rather server cooperation is the general drive for the game. Server vs. Server vs. Server pvp within the mists should also go a long way of bringing back realm pride that was present in DAoC.

I am the guildmaster of a fairly casual guild, we have our semi-hardcore, but it's mostly those who play a bit here and there. GW2 is very appealing to me since I can schedule guild events without having to worry as much about level and group makeup. People can play what they want, how they want, and we can include those who fall behind in leveling. GW2 will only strengthen the bonds within my guild.

One of the problems with this kind of gameplay mechanic imo.

When people are part of a mass of players, they tend to lose track of their own position in all this and usually don't begin too many deep going conversations.

And  honestly, soft grouping or open grouping doesn't help much with that, at least it certainly didn't in WAR or Rift.

The only way is to either spread out people so the groups are a bit less expansive or give alternate small group quests to people imo.

Feel free to use my referral link for SW:TOR if you want to test out the game. You'll get some special unlocks!
