Sad part: D3 sales will be huge because some people just like to "bend over" for blizzard.

Anyone upset over having to play online needs to grow up and get with the times.
It's not some crazy effort to make higher profits, it's a reasonable effort to prevent revenue loss due to piracy.
Different sides of the same coin, I know, but pay for your games - better services, better products.
Not allowing mods? Well, this is hit or miss IMO. While an active mod community can be a huge boost to the popularity of a game, it can and does contribute to cheating and hacking.
From a design perspective, mods both added a lot to WoW and completely ruined WoW at the same time.
Gearscore/Deadly Boss Mods/DPS meters completely changed the game for the worse. Even something like Quest Helper (which was eventually rolled into the official UI like many other popular mods) also completely killed off any sense of exploration and adventure.
You pay for convenience... the price is the destruction of the "world" feeling and accentuation of the "min/max" "power level" mentality that ruins the social and community based fun/interaction.
As for the real life transactions... well, if people are going to illegally sell their virtual goods for real world cash, which they will without a doubt, might as well legalize and control it so transactions are secure, safe, and contribute to the over-all health and prosperity of the game.
People who would "pay to win" buying virtual goods from illegal third parties are doing NOTHING to help the game as a whole or the community, just helping themselves at the expense of the player base and studio.
It makes sense.
Take off the blood-red tinted glasses, think about this stuff in a realistic and logical fashion, and it makes sense.

Well i think the great part of PC gaming is the "longevity" given by mods. You dont HAVE to use them, but if you already got bored with the main game (got to max level, got all cool stuff) you can dl a mod and have a great experience!!!
Some mods are really a piece of art. currently im playing cRPG mod of M&B warband and it´s a whole new game.
So not having modding, especially if SC2 is highly modded, is a great let down, to a PC gamer stand point.
For RTM, as i read, they also will have a in-game currecny attached, so it seems it wont be IRL money ONLY, so it may not kill the game market, so i wont give a final conclusion on it.

I feel like i'm the only one who actually played diablo 1 and 2. You're mad at no mods? really? does anyone remember how corrupt the original diablo 2 open battlenet was? The only decent mod for diablo 2 was map hack, which ended up being "illegal" anyways.
No offline play is a pretty big drag, but honestly how many people are actually affected by this? I used to play 16 plus years ago when internet connections weren't even as close to as prevalent as they are today. It was only when I didn't have access to internet which nowadays happens probably umm.. never.
Anyways maybe i'm getting older? Or are people just ignorant as to what the first two diablo's were like.? But it just seems like people are complaining for no reasons and probably weren't old enough to have played the originals.

Obviously someone who never understood the power of mod builder creativity. Take a look at the NWN copmmunity. D3 is a single player campaign that is suppose to be moddified by the players if they want, especially since the best content comes from players. And really... who gives a rat's ass if some dweeb is pathetic enough to waste real cash on comp codes? It's their money and if they want to throw a million dollars into the river then by law they have that right.
Well back to the OP, well this was a kick in the nuts. Was drooling over D3 but after this fiasco... fuck this shit. Blizz keeps on doing grievous error after error after error. I'm fed up with em now, might not even buy the continuations of SC2 now because of this. I am done with WoW, been done, but was patiently waiting on D3 and continuations of SC2 but after this I'm through with Blizzard. Was gonna try out titan but after this... doubt it. Blizzard has truely become that loathsome, self serving, money grubbing corperation now in my eyes.
Nice job Blizz on losing revenue as I can only see people be persuaded NOT to buy your product instead of buying it.

Over-reacting hyperbole much?
Everyone knows they are still going to play Diablo 3, just like they are still going to play the Star Craft expansions, and Titan, and many probably still play WoW despite feeling like someone has rained on their parade.
The thousand or so people who boycott over this are going to feel pretty left out when millions of others are playing and enjoying these new games.
Hopefully the hate filled, rage-quit troll nerd rage on the forums gives enough satisfaction to make up for the fact you won't be playing a really good game just because you disagree with the companies business model.

Full of yourself much?
Don't speak for me. I'm capable of voting with my wallet and do so regularly. My drop in the bucket won't mean SFA to Kotick and the gang when I withhold it, but at least I won't be made to feel like I'm ... well, Bill Hicks said it best, but I think were I to link it, I'd be banned for life. Just check YouTube for Bill Hicks and one of satan's appendages.
Luckily, I'm not a slave to public opinion and feeling "left out" is just about the last thing that concerns me. There are many, many games out there and many still to come. It's not a real stretch to give this one a pass. So really, what you're talking about is brand loyalty, and I'm just a disloyal MF.
So please, do continue on with your corporate servitude and failure to hold companies responsible for their actions. I mean, how dare we hold them accountable? They're only exercising their god-given right to turn a profit. Suits around the world LOVE you.
So they fuck up their own ip because of RMT, thats nice, way to go guys!
The online mode was good for the fan boys, any normal gamer just played the offline version, i don't think an online version will really attract me tbh, i'll rather play a real mmo. This make no sense whatsoever to me.
Umm. they could allow offline play, but just don't let the offline char be uploadable to the online servers its not hard. Hellgate london did this. SP and MP were both seperate char databases.
This post by this guy on pcgamer just about sums up how I feel about Diablo 3 and blizzard now.
"Cryotek says:
08:40am August 1 2011
Wow, this went from "day one purchase" to "**** you you ****ing ****s you'll never get a ****ing penny from me you ***wits."
Torchlight 2 FTW."
They are going way too far imo. D3 is not a mmorpg and should not be forced to be played exclusivly online, it should have single player offline mode maybe with lan, those chars are stored locally, when you play online though, the chars are on blizzards servers, this will protect their nickle and diming real-cash auction house they so worried about. Its reasons like these why the gaming market is going to shit lately. Devs going out of their way to make their games as annoying as possible to play. Next I bet blizzard is going to say there is a monthly fee too, if they haven't already.
Being a pessimist is a win-win pattern of thinking. If you're a pessimist (I'll admit that I am!) you're either:
A. Proven right (if something bad happens)
or
B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens)

Re: the corruption of open battlenet - that's why there was a closed bnet.
And maphack's being the only decent mod? Seriously? Ever heard of Zy-El, Eastern Sun, Median XL? All incredible mods that greatly change the nature of the game in awesome and unique ways.
I defy anyone to name a non-MMO that was ruined or made worse as a result of modding (I'll agree that with WoW there were some majory downsides). All I've ever seen is games being played well beyond their normal lifespan as a result of an active modding communtiy.
After seeing the toy story graphics, i lost interest.
Everything about this game looks terrible, and that simplified combat for the console crowd, ugh.
I curse the day consoles where made, STOP KILLING OUR GAMES, stick to your halos and shooters.
You just cursed Final Fantasy, Zelda, Megaman... Sir this is a wrath of the size of the internetz that you won´t be able to handle =x

By definition corporations are money grubbing and self serving. I'd like to see how your corporation succeeds when you attempt to not make money and give your product away for free for the betterment of humanity.
mods are for ppl who cant play the real game...and buying and selling items for RL money is a intresting perk wich i will be looking forward to...and no offlfline play? well i dont c a problem with that since everyone has the net now a days...only hics n red necks dont
I am looking forward to D3 and how they are going to twist the story line....just hope it isnt a EPIC fail like World of Warcraft....
well no offline play killed it for me in the same way starcraft 2 did sorry but not paying 50-60 bucks for a game that i have to online to play, now drop the price to 20 bucks cause your getting half a game and i might consider it. Blizz has been going down hill since they made the burning crusade expasion they just keep finding ways to ruin their own ips lol.

I'm going to call it now: this will do absolutely nothing to curb piracy. D3 will be available with a SP hack mere days after release with thousands and thousands of seeders and even more leechers. Like most "anti-piracy" measures, this will do absolutely nothing to curb piracy, while limiting choices and generally making things worse for actual consumers.
Nothing else bothers me about the game itself other than this. Even the real money auction house is fine by me. But having to stay connected to the net in order to play a game thats not an mmo truly bothers me.
It bothers me enough that I may very well not be buying Diablo 3 after all. There have been plenty of times my net has failed. Its not a constant hassle but it happens every long once in awhile. And when and if it does I cant play the game I paid for. They're keeping my toons on their servers?
Its just a damn wonky way of doing things, and I really think its a bad decision on their parts. Of course there's time for them to rethink their stance on this, and they probably should. There are ways around this if they must confirm authenticity and combat piracy. However, whatever they do should never be a burdon to a paying customer, and what they've done very much is.
Comments
The first two are more than likely there due to the third to prevent the real cash auction being messed with.
I was looking forward to D3, not so much now.
Torchlight 2 is looking better and better then more I read about D3 lol.
Playing: Nothing
