Gold farmers live, breath, eat, and shit farming gold in games. This doesn't solve or help anything. With it being live currency now as being part of the in game economy. Gold farmers will make double the profits. Why sell for in game currency when you can sell hundreds of Stones Of Jordan's for 3 bucks a pop. Know what $3 x 500 farmed SoJ are? You do the math.
due to the fact that EVERYONE will be able to do this, competition will go way up, and prices will go way down. and there will only be a set amount of free transactions a week. farmer sites wont be able to keep their doors open due to the fact that they wont make enough money to keep their employees.

I honestly expected D3 to be an off-liner due to its single play mode in the past, with some multiplayer, but Blizzard obviously wants D3 to keep paying its way once the game has been purchased hence the RMT auction house.. but I'm cautiousy seeing it with an open mind: If you love playing games, why not make some cash from your hard earned work by getting gear to sell for rl $$$? In WoW I think I'm liking the Goblin philosophy of best deals anywhere.

i'm almost positive the real cash auction houses will get rid of farmers entirely. since everyone will be able to do this only a set amount of times for free per week, farmers wont be able to keep their doors open due to the regulations on selling and due to the amount of competition lowering prices significantly.
and i'm almost positive the direction they're going with d3 will get rid of piracy. the game requires you to log into an account with a cd key bound to that account in order to play the game. it wont be crackable simply because that information will be stored on THEIR end, not on your own computer.
they're taking extreme measures for extreme problems they've had in the past. i do not blame them one bit for going the direction they're going in.

There's no evidence to support that D3 will not suffer the same as D2. All you've done is support the mindless logic Blizzard has provided and used it as absolute fact. You do not know the fees, exchange rates, or how much one could potentially make.
That, however, is beside the point. Gold Farmers will start slow, due to the initial buy-in and build over time. It's how it works in.. almost any game. That, and hacking also helps.
Oh, and people thought that SC2 was going to be un-crackable, too. So much for that!

how is it mindless logic? how are farmers going to make any sort of profit when blizzard takes a flat rate cut, every player can do it, and you can only do it a set amount of times per week?
and we're not talking about gold farming, we're talking about item farming.
If you think gold farming and item farming are vastly different - enough to make Diablo 3 different than that of what happens in WoW and other various MMOs - then you're only further showing you have no understanding of how the offenders operate and stay in business.
It doesn't matter if there's a flat rate or not, there's profit to be made. The amount need not be substantial for them to proceed, as they do everything in bulk anyway. They'll either bide more time between transitions to keep from being taxed so heavily, or sell so heavily in bulk that it won't matter either way.
it wont be crackable simply because that information will be stored on THEIR end, not on your own computer.
More reasons not to buy it. If really everything is server side then have fun with networking lag in your singleplayer game lol.
Also even if it works like that people will write an emulator / private server within months, like with any MMO that draws any kind of interest.
i'm sure blizzard has the funds to keep network lag from being a problem, lol.
and i highly doubt a private party will have the funds to run their own server.
it's not an mmo, where you can have one realm with thousands of players playing in the same game world.
it's a server that has to run a seperate game world in a user created room for up to 8 players only. and if only one person wants to play the game alone? that's wasted server power for an entire game world for one player. blizzard is a billion dollar company, blizzard has the funds to do this. private parties do not.

LOL, did you actually read my post?
an unofficial MMO server can do this due to the fact that there is only one game world that EVERYONE plays on.
diablo is nothing like an mmo in that an ENTIRE GAME WORLD must be created essentially for every player playing on that server. no private party will have the funds to do this on their own.
it wont be crackable simply because that information will be stored on THEIR end, not on your own computer.

And? does that mean a company shouldn't make efforts to kill piracy? going online only is a good move and piss off lots of pirates who wanted to play offline for free.
Anyone upset over having to play online needs to grow up and get with the times.
It's not some crazy effort to make higher profits, it's a reasonable effort to prevent revenue loss due to piracy.
Different sides of the same coin, I know, but pay for your games - better services, better products.
Ask ubisoft how that worked for them. Pirates where enjoying the games (settlers for example) while regular paying costumers where screwed because the network was down or slow. Creating these kind of restriction only means people will either "crack" there legal version (espesially if you could then mod the game) or simply get the game illigaly as a whole.
Beside that SC2 can be downloaded illigaly from the web, clearly proving that this messure does not work against piracy at all! I mean I do not care for this measure as Blizzard has proven to actually being able to provide a stable battle.net as opposed to UBIsoft being able to run there stuff, but it's not to prevent illigal downloading with I really doubt is a problem for blizzard.

Actually it did not really work for SC2 and it's only costing companies money. People will either download there game and not pay for it or simply not download there game and still not pay for it. I am sure that most of the people who actually pirate would not get the game if they could not download it. Some might, but I am sure that this is just a small procentage. I understand there reasoning to use online only, but it will not help against piracy.

You must have never played WoW or experienced the joys of WoW farming / botting.
The Farmers sell:
Items
Mounts
Gold
Characters
Entire Accounts
Personally, on my server alone, the AH is plagued with farmers who sell epic quality items in BULK.
You are, again, are underestimating the tenacity of the alleged offenders. They are capable of putting fourth more time than any human possible due to botting, hacking, and various other methods. It doesn't matter if there's competition or not, as they will always be able to consitantly come up with various items of astounding quality with the sheer amount of time they are able to bot / farm.
If you think D3 is going to be so revolutionary that Blizzard will somehow moniter the game better and prevent bots and farming from happening, then you are truly a lost. World of Warcraft's team is much bigger than D3's, and they've just about given up on stopping bots now-a-days. D3 has no chance.
They're not stopping botting. They're not preventing gold sales. That, in and of itselt, is entirely impossible. All they've done is make it a legitimate business in their game, and now they make some means of a profit off the one-illegal operation.

Pirates will - and always have - found a way around this.
The only people the company hurts, are their honest consumers.
The only way piracy is going to be killed, is when the world deactivates animosity from the internet.

OK, companies already know fighting piracy is a waste of money. Do you really think Blizzard's sole goal is piracy. The game alone will sell millions like its former two. The reasoning they listed for no offline play was so it was harder to create hacks, which will undoubtly cripple this game. I see it being hacked to death to get illegal items made, once they are made and bought/sold how do you go about it? Are you just returning the money to each party because unless some kind of thing warns that what you are buying maybe a hacked item and subject to removal and all money is lost in the process I see some kind of legalities to them deleting the item.
The gold farmers will set the RATE. It will be an absurd amount. Sure people will come in and undercut, but guess what? They are professionals. They have and do this for their living and short of some startup companies in the US/EU to set pricing, they win. That is why this was done. You can't stop the selling of ingame goods out of game, so make it in game. Unfortunately the prices are going to be quite high I imagine rather fast, and most items that are good will be between the 10-30 dollar range not some couple buck. If they have rare items such as Tyrael's Might with its insane drop rate, it'll probably go in the 100+ range.
If you think gold farming and item farming are vastly different - enough to make Diablo 3 different than that of what happens in WoW and other various MMOs - then you're only further showing you have no understanding of how the offenders operate and stay in business.

if i, an average consumer, can come up with ways to combat the famer problem, i'm sure blizzard can do so as well.
1. make selling items for real money legal for every player who buys the game(done)
2. put a limit on the amount of transactions you can make per week(done)
3. make sellable items UNSTACKABLE.(should be done/unknown)
4. prohibit gold trading between two seperate accounts.(should be done/unknown)
VIOLA! farmers have been obliterated from diablo 3.

I said 'making effort'. What is wrong with that? and i would like to know what is the 'way around' this? private servers? even MMORPGS suffer from that. But if you look at a bigger picture it is going to be a big blow to piracy.
Want to play on official servers? buy a legal copy or go find some 3rd grade crappy private servers.
Explain to me HOW, exactly, this is a blow to pirating?
You do understand that Diablo 3 is a single-player game with co-op capability, right? Why would anyone NEED / WANT to be online? If it's to buy items to progress through a single-player campaign, they're morons to begin with. That's like purchasing different guns for use in Call of Duty's story mode. Entirely pointless.
SC2, originally, did not have LAN or availablility without logging in to Real ID. Guess what? Pirates fixed both of those.
They'll do the same for Diablo 3.
So, no, there is no significant blow to piriting by limiting the game to ONLINE only.

I have never really played D2 a lot, but I have been told that there was a HUGE market for D2 related stuff. Blizzard is just getting some of that money now and I am OK with that. It's going to happen so why not make it more secure to do it and have Blizzard make some money out of it.

Efforts to kill piracy that potentionaly screw legal customers ( and requiremetn being online screws them if their internet goes down) are bad efforts.

So according to you every company should just throw hands in air and say 'f*** it'? sorry but that attitude makes no sense. only because we can't kill piracy completely lets stop making any efforts at all.
Playing on LAN is not same as playing online. Two different things. Moreover, by keeping online only they eliminated the offline single player mode so how can hackers create something which does not exist? it is not like Ubisoft's Settlers 7 which had option for single player mode but all you needed was to connect to internet. Don't confuse D3 with some DRM check.

That, however, is beside the point. Gold Farmers will start slow, due to the initial buy-in and build over time. It's how it works in.. almost any game. That, and hacking also helps.
Oh, and people thought that SC2 was going to be un-crackable, too. So much for that!
More reasons not to buy it. If really everything is server side then have fun with networking lag in your singleplayer game lol.
Also even if it works like that people will write an emulator / private server within months, like with any MMO that draws any kind of interest.
how is it mindless logic? how are farmers going to make any sort of profit when blizzard takes a flat rate cut, every player can do it, and you can only do it a set amount of times per week?
and we're not talking about gold farming, we're talking about item farming.
They'll either bide more time between transitions to keep from being taxed so heavily, or sell so heavily in bulk that it won't matter either way.
i'm sure blizzard has the funds to keep network lag from being a problem, lol.
and i highly doubt a private party will have the funds to run their own server.
it's not an mmo, where you can have one realm with thousands of players playing in the same game world.
it's a server that has to run a seperate game world in a user created room for up to 8 players only. and if only one person wants to play the game alone? that's wasted server power for an entire game world for one player. blizzard is a billion dollar company, blizzard has the funds to do this. private parties do not.
LOL, ever heard about unoffcial WOW servers ? What makes u think they will not be able to do same for Diablo 3 ? Wake UP !
i doubt that there will be a way to sell items in bulk. if everyone has the ability to sell the same items, theres no reason to make them stackable because there will always be one on the auction house. so selling ONE ITEM at a time, a set amount of times per week, PER account. if there's so much competition and prices are so low due to said competition, there's no way farmers will make a profit and stay in business.
And? does that mean a company shouldn't make efforts to kill piracy? going online only is a good move and piss off lots of pirates who wanted to play offline for free.
If they have rare items such as Tyrael's Might with its insane drop rate, it'll probably go in the 100+ range.
if i, an average consumer, can come up with ways to combat the famer problem, i'm sure blizzard can do so as well.
1. make selling items for real money legal for every player who buys the game(done)
2. put a limit on the amount of transactions you can make per week(done)
3. make sellable items UNSTACKABLE.(should be done/unknown)
4. prohibit gold trading between two seperate accounts.(should be done/unknown)
VIOLA! farmers have been obliterated from diablo 3.
