I played most all mmo's, and I'm on Vacation all next week.... I will probably buy the game out right instead of a trial.
Please respond if you played both of them !

I played Aion, as did one of my sons, and it's the usual Asian grindfest and boredom-inducing quests that were fresh and innovative 12 years ago. We gave up on it and never went back. I don't play Rift yet, but he does as well as 7 friends from another MMO and they're all enjoying it so far.
Aion is not an Asian Grindfest which leads me to believe you haven't actually played Asian grind games.
OP: of the two I would say Aion, it's a better game though it has its issues, especially if you aren't on a blanced server.

Defintiely Aion IMO.
I played Aion for 6 months, took a break came back again for 6 months (solo-play, didn't play with friends). I really enjoyed it, but another game (LoL) started pulling me away so I canceled. Aion is defintiely not grindy - if anything Rift is a very grindy game with their reptative quests you are pretty much required to do to get any decent items.
Rift bores me to tears worse than WoW. The handholding is outrageous, uninspired quests. Rift doesn't feel like a 'world' to me, where as Aion does. Just my 2 cents.
Aion: is better looking but had alot of gold farmers and bad custermer service.
Rift: not as good looking as Aion (this does not mean it is ulgy, Aion looks better then every MMORPG out right now)
But had the best service I have ever seen, and I did not see bots.
In all other areas they seem = to me.
AoC looks better than Aion IMO:P
but yeah, Aion is definitely the one to choose
Aion.
Rift is a lamer version of WoW.
Does anyone know if you can buy and DOWNLOAD Aion, or if you have to get it boxed? Is there a digital download is what I'm meaning.

Aion for sure Rift is terrible and go to Aion.com I believe not sure if there is a digital DL though.
Steam
Aion is the best Theme Park mmo on the market. I dont play it but if you played back when it first came out the game has changed so much since then. Its even had a graphic update and looks better than anything out there.

OK thanks, Aion it is
I'm sort of surprised to see so many people suggest Aion. Every review I have read on Aion has been unflattering while Rift has received a lot of praise. I however, have not played Aion but I have played Rift and I found Rift to be a pretty enjoyable game although it does have many similarities with World of Warcrat which isn't exactly a bad thing. Just depends on what you're looking for, I suppose.
Having played Aion since Beta and playing Rift also since Beta (cancelled Aion on Rift release) I think it's worth mentioning the other side of the coin here. Rift has held my interest way more than Aion/WoW or any other mmo I've played (which is almost all of them). Every day I log into Rift I do world pvp quests/PvP rifts now which are a lot of fun and rewarding. No other game has a world feel quite like this and I love the combat. I don't mind Aion combat but the rubber banding as Melee or melee at all can be horrible at times with any latency at all.
Basically I'm gobsmacked that anyone would rate Aion over Rift as it currently. If you have comments to make and recommendations that's great. As long as you're not someone who played Rift beta, played your free 30 days and went hey this is like wow whatever and quit. There is a huge amount of content and updates since then and it wasn't even bad then anyway.
To the OP. I'm sure you can find fun in either game, try the rift trial, and check out Aion too if you like. The choice isn't as blatant as some of the previous posts have stated and I personally (just my opinion) think Rift is a far superior game, much more to do, a really good world feel, great amount of multi classing and combat.
Whatever you end up playing, have fun!
I played both Aion and Rift. I never bought or subscribed to Rift, because it was stale. It reminded me of a very old game I used to play but not hate. Aion on the other hand made me leave when the population plummeted and the content became scarce and stale. Play either or at your own risk.
I struggle not with life, money, emotions, and world, but against old mindsets and selves to be proven obsolete in a age and time of rapid changes. Go create fun, so you can have fun.
In Aion I did manage to get a Templar in the 30's but I was a Rift Vip Beta Tester from Day 1 and could never even manage to get a toon out of the starter area. The game was just that bland to me.
Played both, not anymore but if I had to choose Aion for sure. Check out Age of Conan if you havent yet.

I can't speak for Aion I'm not a fan of Asian grindfests but Rift I play and like. Sure it's not very groundbreaking but it does have some unique features. It's a themepark game but it gets updated faster than any game I've ever played and I've played a lot of MMO's over the last 12 years. The population on a lot of servers is plentiful and if you're a dungeon junkie they just started up cross server dungeon queues so wait is minimal.
Isn't Aion open pvp and Rifts optional open pvp, maybe something to consider when deciding?
While I respect the fact that you dig Rift, you must understand that not everyone does/did. I played Rift in beta and upon release for about 2 months. In my opinion, the game got old really quickly. As I have said in other post, the Rifts themselves, to me at least, felt like large clustetrs of fuck. It was just mass chaos most of the time. Didn't ever feel strategic, just felt like running around killing people, which is fun... the first few times. My other gripe with Rift is that, although there are many "souls", most of them felt like the same thing with some different animations or names. I felt this most with the Warrior, where, as you progressed down the tree, a lot of the talents were the same as another soul in the tree. There really was a large variant to the souls as I would have hoped for. Overall, I felt it was a good, polished game, just got old quick.
Aion on the other hand, I did enjoy a bit more. The visuals are top notch, the PVP int eh abyss was VERY fun and the fights in general just felt better. Not to mention that flying was a whole lotta buncha fun. There were things I didn't enjoy about the game, but unlike Rift, the classes in Aion felt very distinct and the grouping was much more fun in my opinion.
I agreed with what you said though, have a ball with whatever you choose. As long as you're having fun, it's worth it!
Age of Conan tops both by far.
I really enjoyed Conan; probably the best visuals in a game I've seen in a while. Outstanding and fast past combat, fatalities, open pvp. Very fun... .problem is, most of the servers (and there are not many) feel dead. Last time I played, which was a little over a month ago, the pop was poor at best on Tyranny (spell check) - You can't tell from the create screen either as they always say Medium Load... even at 4am.
If the pop was better, I would certainly dig it more.
Aion for sure. Solid community, you always see people in game. The game is pretty good only things bad are the remaining RNG and small grind both which are being dealt with every patch which I'm most impressed with.
If you buy Aion... .YOU WILL SHOOT YOURSELF, PROMISE ME!!!
Buy Rift.
I would go with Rift too. Gave Aion fair chance..twice just couldn't get into it. FFXI was the last true Asian MMO i enjoyed, everything else has been bland and boring from Asian market.
well, i have played both ....
aion:
+ pvp // + crafting // + community
- pve content // - huge gear treatmill // - predictable gameplay
rift:
+ pve content // + serverperformance // + graphics // + classsystem
- pvp // - also huge gear treatmill // - predictable gameplay
all in all and not really suprisingly - and i fear to be beaten for this - both games are very similar. the maindifference is between pve and pvp. if you like to be more involved in pvp - choose aion, if not and you are more pve driven - choose rift. and i go along with the opinion of many others here ... age of conan might be the better choice.
