Aion or Rift ?

I would have to say Aion.

Aion wasn't very good when it first came out, the game got bad reviews and the only thing people said was good about the game was its graphics. I played the game for myself and they were right.

Now after serveral updates Aion is more than just beautiful it's also a MMO worth paying for. They fixed up the games major issues and it's now really addicting and fun to play.

I can't say much about Rift but i did play the CB of Rift and it was a good game but it reminded me a lot of WoW. They have taken no risks with Rift and they went with the safe route of making it similar to another famous game.

Aion is just much more unique and no it's not an asian grindfest game, not anymore at least.

Aion is not an Asian Grindfest which leads me to believe you haven't actually played Asian grind games.

OP: of the two I would say Aion, it's a better game though it has its issues, especially if you aren't on a blanced server.

Yes, it is an asian grindfest. I played it from release to level 42 and then threw it away when I realized I'd be killing that same monster over and over and over again for another week or two. If you don't think that's a grindfest, that leads -me- to believe you are either lacking in the social aspect of life, or are you are such a fanboi that you refuse to accept it even when it's pummeling you up the backside with no lube.

Like i said Aion was horrible at release but if you would play the game today i'm sure you would like it very much.

Honestly, it is a tough decision. Rift is fun if you've never played it. I also enjoyed Aion for a while as well. Aion's pvp can be more enjoyable, and while it does have some decent PvE, I'd say Rift probably takes it on that category.

The sad truth is, neither game really is going to provide you much long-term playability. That's really going to depend on you (whether or not you can make your own fun, if you are playing solo or w/ friends, how much patience you have, etc.)

Both are well made games, but I have to admit I have a hard time playing either for a long period of time. Also keep in mind, that while Rift does have a lot of quests, it's basically turned into a Q grinder atm. (random dungeons, pvp, dailies / etc). Every so often you can find a raid to join, and some shards still have a decent number of raiding guilds, but it's capped to 1 attempt every week or so.

I still play Rift every now and then, but I usually don't find myself logged on for more than an hour or two.

Sovrath has played Lineage 2 in its heyday, as have I, so I'm sure that's where his perspective comes from.

Imagine gaining .01% of a level for every 10 mobs you kill in the upper levels. Oh, and you lose XP and/or levels when you die, potentially requiring you to put in the time to re-gain all that lost xp...at .01% of a level per kill (unless you're lucky and get a Blessed Res, have a clan hall, etc).

Even now with them speeding leveling up 'til around 60-ish, Lineage 2 is a true "Korean Grindfest". Older F2P titles like Last Chaos and others from that period... true Korean grindfests.

So, by comparison, Aion is nowhere near being a Korean Grindfest.

Is it slower/grindier than other MMOs aimed more at a Western market? Absolutely.

But compared to true Korean style grind games... Aion is approaching casual.

I'm not saying that's "good" or "bad", because that's entirely subjective. Just pointing out the difference.

    Right now?

    Aion.

It's just the better game all round, and it looks nicer.

Once 3.0 hits I am gonna go back myself. I wish they would put up a fresh start PvE server though, with PvP restricted to the Abyss.

Ive played Both Rift plays and kinda feels like wow but with a shinier coat. Aion is hard but not to hard, and its got some fun everything if you ask me :D. Also Dbl exp week so get in on the action!

I like them both but rift is far more westernized and it feels as though theres alot more to do.  What you have to weigh up is Aion is mainly a Mass PvP game where as rift is a bit of everything.

    No contest:  RIFT

Aion is such fail. Let me give you an example: You will grinding 30 rats for a quest. Then turn in the quest and you get offered a new quest. Guess what...same 30 rats! Its like that!

So, if you enjoy a mindless asian grinder, pick Aion (oh and the PvP just blows).

    Rift is much more refined.

    Not me.

I know better than that. WoW would be lucky to still have 4 million subs in NA/Euro after cata and Rift.

I don't count asian subs because we dont have access to those players since this is mostly a NA/EU community site.

Who cares if Aion has 2.8 million subs in Asia when here its hardly 200k?

Also i see everyone is avoiding my endgame comment and how Rift has more content for endgame players than even Aion Korea which is pathetic for a game what? near two years old?

Addition: Do i need to go on? Aion can't touch Rift when it comes to dungeon design, what about the class system? the way Rift does events and handles its zone wide open world content? I can go down the list other than maybe slightly faster combat rift is a much better game all around.

Who cares? Tell that to NC Soft because they are sitting on the #2 Pay To Play MMO on the market. People use Asian subs to validate the success of a western mmo like WoW but cant use Asian subs to validate the sucess of an Asain MMO like Aion? Why when both Rift and Aion are both available in Asia, USA and Euro? If Rift was a better game it would have better World Wide Subs. Sure Rift has more success in west and I am not debating that but you cant say that Rift is a better game because its more succesful where you live. You dont count Asain subs because we dont have access to those players? What does that have to do with the success of a MMO or any product? You have to take a count of ALL subs / sales and when you do that Rift cant compete with Aion.

Here is an idea..umm Rift is not released in Asia yet? so this whole comparison is useless. As far as western market is concerned it has been quite a sucess. So in order for Rift to compete with AION it has to release in Asia first then only you can measure its success or failure there.

Hahah classic. The fact that you can't find any links regarding it and that there has not been any official annoucement from Trion  regarding release in Asia or any asian servers is proof enough. Nice try though.

    /facepalm.

Go check the Trion official website. I have 6 months sub to this game and i have been playing on and off since closed beta. And there has not been an annoucement or plans to release Rift in Asia. Stop pulling stuff out of your behind. Is it really that hard to accept that you are wrong? such things just don't happen without making headlines on web especially MMORPG.COM.

    The day Rift will release in Asia, official website will be the first place to know about it.{mod edit}

I'm really shocked at the amount of pro-Aion responses.  I wouldn't play Aion even if it was on a free p. server so my answer is obviously Rift.  I do like Rift more than I like Aion(so one dimensional and limited when it comes to a MMO, vast amounts of wasted potential) but I wouldn't go out of my way to recommend Rift either.

Hate to point it out, but that's very circular reasoning. Assuming something exists because there's no proof that it doesn't rarely works in an argument. In this case, we're talking about a decision a company would have had to make in order for it to be true. Assuming as such is fairly illogical given that there would be a paper trail / some type of announcement made for such an event to occur. Unless you are a conspiracy theory enthuseist, in which case you would be talking about a company deliberately hiding their plans to expand a product, for no real reason other than to be devious.

Just wanted to add from my last post...

In my eyes, the biggest 'leg up' Aion has over Rift is how long it's been released... ie-Expansions/updates

    ...still, even then...

    That is all, ty.

Sorry but I am not a troll and dont care what you call me. It just shows your frustration of not being able to get your point accross.  If you call a person a liar you need proof that they are lying. I dont have to prove anything to you because you are nonthing to me. Dont tell me to show proof of what I am saying when you cant show proof of what you are saying. All western mmos release in Asia because its the largest mmo market in the world. That shows me you have no clue to how this stuff works. Its not hard to find out if Rift is in Asia but I will let you do the work because I dont work for free.

Dont be shocked the people that like Rift are playing Rift because it has a ton of content for such a early game. Meanwhile the Aion guys are all bored because they have virtually no content to go through at max level.

This topic is such a joke obviously Rift wont be represented here well because those people are actually playing it, much like WoWs representation here... Good games get played! They dont have their entire playerbase scouring the forums.

    Hooray for non-sequiturs.

The Rift forums have 3 threads active as of today (a few minutes ago)

The Aion forums have 2 threads active as of today (a few minutes ago)

That would tell me that there's about as much activity in both games on these forums.. in fact, a little *less* in Aion's as of right now.

So, by your logic, that would mean that more people are playing Aion instead of "posting on the forums", than there are in Rift...

By the way... I'm not making a serious claim here. Just making an absurdly unfounded claim using your logic, to illustrate how absurd yours was.
