I played most all mmo's, and I'm on Vacation all next week.... I will probably buy the game out right instead of a trial.
Please respond if you played both of them !
Why not play the trials? :-
It's the safest step you can take and if you do like one or the other you can immediately upgrade your trial account to a paying account.
Just what I was going to say.
I've played both, but Aion was during their beta and then for first month after release, so some time ago. I liked it at the time, but soon became bored. Didn't get high enough for pvp, though, which I regret. Did like the flying and the look of the game, and even now I can remember some of the initial quests, which were kind of fun. Thinking of the strange one with the witch who has turned an npc into a frog or something? That made me smile.
Rift, same thing really. Played throughout beta and then for the first 3 months (so a bit longer than Aion). Loved the soul system, tried each different class, a few of the races, both factions and both pve and pvp. The Rifts did become boring after a while, and the pvp at lower levels was limited to simple battlegrounds, which again quickly became boring. Would have enjoyed some world pvp, but never got there.
I would definitely try the trials of both, and also take a look at AoC, especially now given the f2p option. Plus they have a hardcore pvp server now, if that's your thing. Personally I could never get into AoC. Bought it at release and played for a while, and tried again recently with the trial version, but don't know, something seemed lacking. Or maybe I'm just another burnt-out ex-mmo'er. (*boohoo*, I hope not!).
I'm really shocked at the amount of pro-Aion responses. I wouldn't play Aion even if it was on a free p. server so my answer is obviously Rift. I do like Rift more than I like Aion(so one dimensional and limited when it comes to a MMO, vast amounts of wasted potential) but I wouldn't go out of my way to recommend Rift either.
*shrug*
Different strokes for different folks but don't be surprised if you end up right back here in this forum after playing both of them.
Dont be shocked the people that like Rift are playing Rift because it has a ton of content for such a early game. Meanwhile the Aion guys are all bored because they have virtually no content to go through at max level.
This topic is such a joke obviously Rift wont be represented here well because those people are actually playing it, much like WoWs representation here... Good games get played! They dont have their entire playerbase scouring the forums.
Hooray for non-sequiturs.
The Rift forums have 3 threads active as of today (a few minutes ago)
The Aion forums have 2 threads active as of today (a few minutes ago)
That would tell me that there's about as much activity in both games on these forums.. in fact, a little *less* in Aion's as of right now.
So, by your logic, that would mean that more people are playing Aion instead of "posting on the forums", than there are in Rift...
By the way... I'm not making a serious claim here. Just making an absurdly unfounded claim using your logic, to illustrate how absurd yours was.
all the forum warrioring is being done in general topic type forums.
WoW so many pro's and con's I't seemed hard to decide. I was gonna just buy Aion or Rift but since there is so much controversy here I decided to give Aion free trial a shot.
So far it's ok. ( only level 3 )
- Graphics are a little disappointing as they seem like water color paintings. With everything maxed out it's kind of nice. I still think Vanguard is better. I do have a powerful computer.
- Quest seem bland. But I like the class specific quest chains, thats something new !
- UI is great. Still standard but a lot menus and a lot of management, Just a lot going on even at level 3.
- looks very Asian. Not too crazy about that, but I was expecting that, and the music is OK ( seems between eastern and western ).
Like I say I'm only level 3 so more to come, and I still did not rule out Rift.
Aion is shit, the first 20 levels are fun then you enter pvp zones where you get ganked every 2 minutes non stop and its always by stealthed sins who 1 shot level 20's. If anyone thinks thats fun, then so be it. There is a zone you can go to that doesnt have as much ganking but no one goes there cos it sucks. Only good thing about this game is character customisation and the first 20 levels. Crafting blows.
On rift you have the best customer service, constant updates, a company that cares about their customers , great game, graphics, great pvp. Choice of pve or pvp servers, the sense that you are "saving" Telara.
I'd go for Aion, but not everybody likes the korean look and game style, if you like pretty graphics, fast and visual combat and a lot of grinding I would go for Aion, otherwise, WoW instead of Rift hehe.
I have played aion since its release, seemed a good game but after 6 months I went back to wow .... after about 6-7 months I tried again, but have been banned without reason, without explanation, after 10 days my account was working again but without nothing no armor/weapon no gold... I was lv 53 gear with blue / green of lv 30 and I do not understand why ncsoft ban me ...

The game in general is good, very nice graphics, you can personallizzare the character as you wish both aesthetically and in terms of weapons and armor.
It is not a grind game .
The only grind you have is the armor / weapon PVP obtained by PvE and not PvP!
