Id have to say generally unfavorable. But to be honest Im kind of on the fence. Ive not really decided I like them or not.
I know originally they were designed to be elves or at least look like them. They've gone through several different designs as Im sure all races in the game have. But I guess of all the races in the game, I somehow dislike them the most. Maybe its that they're "plant people", which I just cant exactly rap my head around.
They are bloomed from a tree. So are they flowers? Are they seeds? They dont reproduce through sexuality yet they can be sensual and feel love? Its just kind of odd.
I have to give props to GW2 for trying to be different. When I first heard of them I figured they were just a different take on elves. Which I suppose they sort of are, except at this point Im not sure there's any real resembalance anymore.
Theres definitely some alien type races in this game. But Id have to say Im fond of the Sylvari the least. Plant people who grow from a tree. I guess Im just not overly fond of the premise. I find I have a hard time imagining their motivations. But I cant hate on them because at least they're different.
Meh, in the trailer for the Sylvari they say they're not just humans with pointy ears. Piffle, they are humans with pointy ears, its just that they have some leaves painted on as well.
Mannerisms, movement and activities are all the same as humans in the trailer, so just call them Elves and be done with it.
Gotto admit the artwork for the World tree looks pretty though :-)

One thing I'm definitely looking forward to is seeing the Pale Tree up close to get a sense of it's scale. It looks enormous in the video, but seeing it in-game will probably induce a "holy [expletive]" response.

It's a game, ffs.
I'm thinking that S=the Sylvari will be everybody's favorite race... to kill in PvP.
Gosh they should at least need a dunk in a pond or lake or something.....
