Hm. I must say, I have not played much PVP I really enjoyed. I found the arena PVP always the worst, most annoying and terrible experience and the open world PVP the only version of PVP I could enjoy. I loved the PVP that once happened in Restuss, SWG, for a while, and I considerably like the Warhammer Castle sieges, also a while. There was a sort of dynamic and fun in this. You never really knew what was coming, you always could make a change.

The arena PVP however I abhorr. In theory a 6 VS 6 or what is SUPPOSED to be balanced, but the reality is quite the opposite. It is super repetitive and usually a TS expert team pwns my pick up group. I hate that. And so far we have only seen this sort of arena PVP which I profoundly dislike, no matter how it is made. I just hope TOR is going to have some open warzones, maybe with "castles" or other fortifications to conquer, defend and some interesting things in the PVP zones.

PS: Just because we disagree doesn't mean we have to be so acidic.

When an MMO comes out that plays the same as a fps my interest in MMO's will be rekindled and will be totally interested in it but dont worry I wont hold it against you if your not.image

That's called an MMOFPS my friend, SW:TOR is an MMORPG.

No my friend sorry everyone seems to like to call their lobby based games MMOFPS's and also there is nothing in the term MMORPG that insinuates that it needs to be tab targeting nonskill based wait oncooldown dice rolls. It is just that people like you like to throw that label on it and also that technology hasnt come to the point to overcome the lag factor.

Ok, so FPS for combat, but has RPG elements. How is that not an MMOFPS (Planetside?) You seem to be objecting to a suitable classification for what you are describing. The MMORPG term insinuates (connotes) boring dice rolling combat by the percentage of games that use this system. i.e. Yes there are white elephants but most elephants are grey.

Further proof that if you didn't like WoW you won't like TOR.

The only non-MMO players SWTOR is going to attract are Star Wars and BioWare fanbois.

Aside from simply having more cutscenes, SWTOR is doing literally NOTHING that other established don't already offer and therefore there is nothing there to draw new people with.

You do realize that the Star Wars' fanbase is the largest fanbase in the world, not to mention that Bioware as a company has one of the largest fanbase in the industry right up there, though perhaps a bit behind, with Blizzard, Bethesda, Bungie, etc.  Those two fanbases will be a lot of people that SWTOR will bring into the MMO genre if what you say is true.

Just like Blizzard did with WoW.  Will that be a blessing or a blight on the mmo genre?  /shudder

There is so very much that is inaccurate about this little tiff that you two are having...niether of you have played the game, you should stop talking about what the game is or isn't doing that is new and innovative...especially the guy saying that it's doing nothing.

And yes, I've played the game...a lot.

Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.

That depends entirely upon your point of view.

Would be nice if it roughly played the same.

Outcome depends more on player ability vs player stats, when mmo's figure out how to do this maybe PvP will be worth playing.

I think the RPG part of MMORPG kinds of says that the game does indeed have to have classical RPG qualities to be considered such, so you need a loot-based game with different skills that are usually based on dice-rolls and different paths for character progression.  The closest thing to an RPG/FPS hybrid would probably be ME2 but some people would hardly call ME2 an RPG so yes I believe what you're looking for is an MMOFPS but you seem to want one that's set in an open and persistent world, perhaps you should look towards Dust 514 or w/e it's called.

Actually there is one rpg/fps game that is an mmo out that shows it doesnt need to be dice rolls it is called Darkfall which you have to aim and hit your target I am just not a fan of ffa pvp with full loot. But with games like Tera and Defiance and PS2 coming I am sure there will be more so.

As far as Dust 514 that lands squarely in what I mentioned earlier a lobby based shooter that calls itself a MMOFPS.Also it is only on PS3 and unless they made drastic changes that I havnt heard about it isnt set in a open persistant world it is only linked to Eve which is.

Well I think I was just objecting to the majority of the games that call themselves that so it kind of waters that down. Not that I dont enjoy playing lobby based shooters but alot say they are MMOFPS to try to get the rpg crowd or something I guess. But yea the true form of a FPS that is a massive open persistant online world with rpg elements will be nice.

TOR should have just been Knights of the Old republic 3 single player game with a Co op option setup like a Diablo with a player lobby. It should have avoided trying to be a MMO. All I can say is, Thank Frack for Planetside 2.
