The more I read on this game the more it seems like just another WOW clone. Sure there are SOME new things
1.Casting while moving.
2.Dodging attacks and projectiles with a double tap in a direction, no RNG combat.
3.No autoattack.
4.Toggling a shield stance to block projectiles from hitting you and people behind you.
5.Limited skillbar forcing you to choose your weapons, skills and traits tactically before combat.
6.No strict holy trinity. Players can adopt a control, support or dps role based on what the group needs.
7.Players can switch roles in combat assuming they've planned ahead.
8.Proximity based aggro system to let people roll out of the way while others take over holding mob attention.
9.No ally targeted abilities. Watch the screen, not the life bars.
10.Going to zero health puts you in a downed state instead of dying. Killing an enemy rallies you to your feet.
11.Or any profession can revive you at any time, mid combat.
12.Very minimal death penalty. Knowing you failed is penalty enough.
13.Instant travel to anyplace you've been before for a small fee, or between any major city for free.
14.Dynamic events which replace quests, chain into one another, have consequences, and scale players down to their level, allowing for repeating all open world content.

16.Each player gets an entire section of town as their personal instance.
17.Each player has a personal storyline that changes based on choices made at character creation.
18.Your personal story also has permanent consequences in your home instance based on choices you make in game.
19.Choices you make affect your character's personality, which affects how NPCs react to you.
20.Dungeons have four paths, the first is a story mode which is separate from your personal story.
21.The unlockable explorable mode of dungeons shows the consequences of the story mode.
22.Explorable mode has three paths that players can vote on which they do.
23.There are random and/or discoverable events inside each dungeon.
24.World is entirely PVE, designed to prevent griefing entirely.
25.Day/night cycle which can affect your weapon's stats/proc.
26.You don't need to group, you always get experience and loot for helping kill a mob.
27.Open world raid encounters with no limit on the number of people who can take part. (60+ in demos)
28.Everybody has every gathering profession, no waiting for someone else.
29.Everybody gets a shot at each gathering node.
30.Crafting won't be a repetitious grind and features discoverable recipes.

54.Add your own music to ingame playlist which reverts to game music during cinematic.

VAPOWARE until it actually releases
There go GW2 fans assuming it is there way or the highway. Half that stuff you listed is not broken in other MMO's, bu they felt the need to reinvent.
1) Vaporware does not mean that. At all. If it did, Diablo III and SWTOR would also be vaporware right now. Go look up the definition so you don't look so much like an idiot.
2) Notice the post he was responding to. He's responding to the claim that GW2 is a WoW clone. Whether or not you think that some of those items are "broken" in other games is irrelevant, the fact remains that they ARE different in GW2, and it is therefore not a WoW clone. I find the fact that we have people coming into this thread simultaneously complaining that GW2 is a WoW clone, and that it is changing things that don't need to be changed, hilarious; it's just proof positive that people will say whatever they want, facts be damned, as long as they're saying something bad about a game they don't like. Don't call us fanbois when we point out how objectively false your uninformed statements are; it's not fanboism if we're using facts.
"ANet is awesome so GW2 will be awesome" is a fanboi's opinion. "GW2 is not a WoW clone because <50+ features>" is a fact.
What really upsets me about GW2, and this is really my only gripe, but it's a huge one:
No ability to project my consciousness into a fully 3D online holographic representation of Tyria and all of her inhabitants, cultures, and species. I mean...seriously, what is this...1997? Where's the innovation?

Heh.
Where is the virtual reality game anyway, don't we have that technology yet?

Arenas and battlefield are not something differant. You can give a new name but its still the same thing.
Cali59 conveniatly forgot to write #59 on his list.....It has a cash shop. Cash shop will come in handy for that pvp..

And this is why some of us are called fanbois. Not because we are, but because there are people posting that really haven't bothered to look anything up before posting in ignorance and we keep making the same corrections. Ok so they have some PvP that has similarities, this is what makes it a WoW clone? Really?
Cash shop is going to help with the PvP? really? My gawd man. I don't think I'll bother correcting that clusterf^*k. lets just say there is enough info out to say there won't be anything sold in the CS that will give anyone an advantage over anyone, especially in PvP. Wasn't int he first and has been stated there won't be in the second.

Heeeey...that suit of ignorance is looking really good on you. You should definitely buy it. Cinch it at the waist a bit, maybe draw the cuffs out a little...but still, fabulous.
thank you cali59 for the explaination of what kind of pvp guild wars 2 will have.
Basically guild wars 2 should be sold seperately imo.
Guild 2 - a co-op rpg game like white knight chronicles.
Wars 2 - lobby based PvP action all gears and lvls are given.
oh and before anyone says what about W v W ?
well what exactly do the winners get from this? i mean. clearly i dont need the gear for pvping. bragging rights? those get reset every 2 weeks.... and even if 'server 1' was the undisputed best pvp server. the other 2 would simply team up against them. making it impossible to hold forever. and even if u DID manage to hold the center / castle. for what?
in ragnarok castles droped treasures.
in lineage they collect taxes from neighbouring towns.
in aion u have access to dungeons and quests for PVP gear.
in RF online, the winners get to mine inside the core.
really i dont see why i would spend my time fighting the big battle for no rewards.
-2 weeks long siege is stupid.
-even if a good guild takes it, they gotta sleep sometime.
-why put an effort to get organized when u can do tournament / arena pvp
-why share my clans victory with the whole server?
-theres not even a reward for winning. armor? weapons? money? useless in tournament pvp. (unless u wanna look pretty)
for those of u who have played ANY mmorpg with ventrilo. i dont care if it was daoc or wow.
do you remmeber just how hard it was just to get ur whole clan to show up for 1 event. takes weeks of planning and heads up. the leaders gotta keep reminding everyone. and when they day finally came. attendance was still not even 60% of the roster. wow clans could have 100 members, and only 25 show up for raid/siege.
congratulations all that hard work this clan put in to win it. here u go, here is 1 penny for ur efforts. now go play tournament mode and or play story mode co-op. cuz all that work was for nothing.

Sorry, can't add vanity cash shop to the list. That part is WoW cloned.

omg whaaaaa? /shakes head in frustration and gives up....... Dude please read up a little info. All of your questions (were they questions?) can and have been answered. As soon as i read the part about GW2 needing to be a lobby game and a co-rpg I died a little inside. I don't mean to come across as a jerk but it appears you didn't even bother to lookup enough info to even warrant answers to what I think are questions. Here is a goodlink to help you start http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/287180.

Why? Many good games offer 2 games in one like that, DaoC is a good example (and you are wrong about both the PvE and PvP BTW).
Uhm, why do people play all those zillions of FPS games out there? Not for loot or level but because they have fun. 'Nuff said.

37.Weapon skills affect your play. Bow and gun aren't the same. For warriors bow is AOE, gun is single target.
38.Three faction PVP, played against other servers. The matches are two weeks long. No limit to the number of participants.
39.Win/loss standings are kept and used to match you up next time against servers of equal strength.
40.Winning server gets some kind of server-wide PVE buff.
41.Five to six minigames per capital city (bar brawl, shooting gallery, keg basketball)
42.Flat leveling curve designed to eliminate grinding.
43.Environmental weapons that change your skill bar when you pick them up.
44.Thieves can steal environmental weapons from enemies and use them (steal feathers to blind mob for example)
45.400 dye colors. Each piece of armor has three independent color sections.
46.No endgame raiding. Best stat gear comparatively easy to get. There will be optional grinds for vanity.
47.Focus is on replayability, either through story or leveling through events that weren't running last time.
48.Only four stats, so Power affects melee, ranged and spell power. Pick up a bow for the first time and use it.
49.Everytime you run a dungeon you get a token for a piece of armor, no grinding out dungeons.
50.You can see what your friends are doing in game from your iPad and send them messages.
51.Translatable fictional languages, because, you know, why not.
52.Your personality gives you different options, like ferocious people can punch an NPC in the face to end the conversation.
53.No dwarves, no elves. Plant people. Cat people. Underwater seal people who hulk out when in danger. Rats with a hive mind. Buddhist polar bears. Play any class with any of the 5 playable races.
54.Add your own music to ingame playlist which reverts to game music during cinematic.
55.And no monthly fee.
It seems like they have gone the direction tactically of Asherons Call and maybe Chronicles of spellborn with the skillsets. I like the 3 day pvp matches oh god, thats a pks dream come true, the grief alone you can cause especially if the thing keeps track of your personal kill records.
Either way, its far and away better than anything EA is doing.
well what exactly do the winners get from this? i mean. clearly i dont need the gear for pvping. bragging rights? those get reset every 2 weeks.... and even if 'server 1' was the undisputed best pvp server. the other 2 would simply team up against them. making it impossible to hold forever. and even if u DID manage to hold the center / castle. for what?
in ragnarok castles droped treasures.
in lineage they collect taxes from neighbouring towns.
in aion u have access to dungeons and quests for PVP gear.
in RF online, the winners get to mine inside the core.
really i dont see why i would spend my time fighting the big battle for no rewards.
Well, first, the win/loss record is kept. I don't know if this is truly unprecedented, but it sounds like great incentive to me. Nobody likes losing. In other games, maybe it's all about personal advancement. Or you try to win the battleground but if you lose it, it's ok because you can just join another one.
Think about sports. I can probably tell you who won the latest Super Bowl, maybe the year before that. I know in my head that it's really not that important, but it's very exciting when you're in the moment and rooting for your team to win.
There are some kind of PVE rewards (extra XP, faster regeneration, etc). They're not finalized yet but that would be at least some reward for doing well.
As far as the castle goes, I'm guessing you take it over because it's important to victory. It appears to be right in the middle of the central map area. There might be specific rewards to holding it as well, but it's probably not finalized. But really, it's PVP. Do you really need a reason to hold it other than stopping the other guy from getting it and laughing at his feeble attempts?
I've heard it said that if you're rewarded well for doing something, in your mind it becomes the reason you're doing it. It becomes like a job to earn that reward. I don't know how true that is or whether it's only true in some circumstances, but it got me thinking that maybe worrying about the reward is the wrong way to look at it. Do world PVP if you think it's fun. Because you like the idea of joining up with 100 other guys and routing an enemy force. Not because you're going to get something a little shinier when you're done.

Cali59 conveniatly forgot to write #59 on his list.....It has a cash shop. Cash shop will come in handy for that pvp..
Sorry, can't add vanity cash shop to the list. That part is WoW cloned.
Well it was in gw first. You people are really stupid if you think you are not going to have to spend in the cash shop.
You'll be playing a f2p game you were dumb enough to pay $60 for, and then paying more for every new little expansion that should have been in the game to begin with, all the while playing in an arena. lmao.
Better buy that skill pack since everyone else will have it. And stop looking so generic and buy some dyes or custom costumes.
Even if that were true which I doubt it is, it will still be cheaper to do this a few times a year than it will to pay for TOR for two months at nearly 60$.
W v W v W pvp dosnt mean its world pvp. From what ive read in the thread its just a huge alterac valley where a bunch of people kill eathother for bonuses for their server.... what about the guild warfare? This is called guild wars isnt it? I dont give a crap about the other people on my server, i'd like to kill people from other guilds with my own guild. TBH i'd like to choose who i get to play with, not be forced to play with everyone. Highly disapointed.

So I guess what you're saying is if I told you I played GW1 without knowing there was even a cash shop, it would be too farfetched for you to believe? You know what I say? Believe what you want to believe, those who know the truth know it well.

Considering how they keep insisting that their business model was a success and how many people I see with the costumes they sell in the shop, I'd wager that a good amount of people will be using it.
I'm going to start making a text file with this reply for when these x is just a rip off of y comments come up. Anyways, here it goes.
There is nothing original under the sun. Everything has been thought of at one point or another. Everything takes ideas from everything else. Yes, everything in WoW was taken from somewhere else. What matters is the implementation. How did the company, or author, or developer put his or her own spin on the idea? GW2 is a collection of ideas from other games, movies, books across every genre (yes this includes WoW, single player games, board games, and GW1) that has been implemented differently or developed upon. WoW is the same thing. WoW is nothing but a collection of ideas that have been polished and implemented differently than done before.
Just because GW2 has these arenas, battlegrounds, tournaments, pvp-group-structured thingy, or whatever you choose to call it doesn't instantly make it like WoW. Again, how have they implemented them? I will highlight some of the differences now.
1) (Probably the biggest) Everyone is equal in all aspects except skill. Which means every structured pvp player will enter with the same level of gear, they will have every skill or trait unlocked, and they will be at the same level. All that will matter is skill . WoW you enter into pvp matches with the clothes on your back. So just because you play GW2 10 hours a day, 7 days a week, doesn't mean you will necessarily be any better than someone who plays 2 hours a day a couple times a week. (That whole skill>time philosophy of Anet. If you hate it, don't play it).
2) To enter a hotjoinable match, it's sort of like FPS games. "Once the current round ends, the server loads the next map in the rotation, players can reselect teams, and the fight starts again. This kind of setup allows players to find favorite servers and build online communities by playing more than one game with the same settings and people." sounds a little different than WoW. The hot joinable matches would be more akin to a mix between RA (Random Arena), AB (Alliance Battles), FA (Fort Aspenwood), JA (Jade Quarry), with some FPS qualities, and a battleground wrapping.
3) The maps aren't necessarily tied to players. Just because you enter map x doesn't mean it's soley for 10v10.
4) Destructable environments. Outside influences that could potentially turn the tide in a battle. (Dragon flying over, killing everyone).
5) Obviously the down state, unless you "finish them" can make a difference.
6) Tournament play is akin to GvG in GW1, but taking a a whole new level. Pick-up tournament: 8 organized teams battling it out through 3 rounds. At the end of 3 rounds, whoever is still standing gets qualifier points.

It just feels like ArenaNET and GW2 fans are making a cardinal mistake of attracting WoW hardcore players and casuals to a game that literally plays NOTHING like WoW.
I will be scared to view the GW2 general forums after this releases becauses this game is not going to adjust to suit them like they want in my long run prediction. Here is hoping. I saw the pvp vid linked on youtube and it brought back some fun Aion memories.
Gw2 seriously is giving me some Aion flashbacks when I look at the videos and gameplay. You can see that NCSoft influence on it.
Comments
Sounds terrible
Heh.
Where is the virtual reality game anyway, don't we have that technology yet?
^^^^^^^^^ This. I was thinking the exact same thing and deciding whether to respond about the fact that people complain when games imitate others, and to put a game down they complain when someone tried to do something different. Summed up nicely. Back to the GW2 info I haven't read yet but whats the point since its all just vaporware?
RIP Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan and Paul Gray.
RIP Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan and Paul Gray.
Wars 2 - lobby based PvP action all gears and lvls are given.
oh and before anyone says what about W v W ?

for those of u who have played ANY mmorpg with ventrilo. i dont care if it was daoc or wow.
do you remmeber just how hard it was just to get ur whole clan to show up for 1 event. takes weeks of planning and heads up. the leaders gotta keep reminding everyone. and when they day finally came. attendance was still not even 60% of the roster. wow clans could have 100 members, and only 25 show up for raid/siege.
congratulations all that hard work this clan put in to win it. here u go, here is 1 penny for ur efforts. now go play tournament mode and or play story mode co-op. cuz all that work was for nothing.

omg whaaaaa? /shakes head in frustration and gives up....... Dude please read up a little info. All of your questions (were they questions?) can and have been answered. As soon as i read the part about GW2 needing to be a lobby game and a co-rpg I died a little inside. I don't mean to come across as a jerk but it appears you didn't even bother to lookup enough info to even warrant answers to what I think are questions. Here is a goodlink to help you start http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/287180.
*edited I misunderstood what he meant in the beginning.

Why? Many good games offer 2 games in one like that, DaoC is a good example (and you are wrong about both the PvE and PvP BTW).
Uhm, why do people play all those zillions of FPS games out there? Not for loot or level but because they have fun. 'Nuff said.
