Or .. since if they are working on WvWvW back home, they have to be testing it. So they could have just brought a film of said testing, which would have at least been better than nothing. I think they are just doing what all the other companies are doing and rationing information between the (almost too numerous) conventions.
They only show what is in the game and working, but I'm sure it's rationing information too. Showing a movie of something they're working on, is that really that interesting when noone can try it for themselves? I don't think it would be a good idea really. We've all seen too many movies and cinematics that later proved to be nothing like the game, leaving players...deceived. I do not object to Anet religiously sticking to their principle of only showing what they can deliver.
Waiting for Guild Wars 2, and maybe SWTOR until that time...
Isn't it more reasonable to just acknowledge its not ready to be shown yet?
ArenaNet has said from the start that they only show stuff to the public after it has gone through enough iteration that they think it delivers on what they want the game to be like. That said it make total sense that they would not show WvWvW until they get it to the point that they are willing to show it to the public, and from the interviews at Gamescom that is still a few months away.
The other logic thing to consider with this is demographically Europe is considered to be huge PVP enthusiast. That is why around May of this year I predicted to my friends that PVP will be shown at Gamescom, if you are going to show PVP show it to the people that are going to be rabidly obsessed about it. Now if you are ANet and you have hot-joinable structured PVP in a state that you could present it to the public, or WvWvW that is not exactly at that point yet, which one are you going to choose. Of course the one that is more polished since you want that large Europe PVP fan base to buy your game, this is a no brainer. And for people crying about them not showing WvWvW, their favorite type of PVP, is absolutely retarded. If one is more polished than the other of course you are going to show the more polished one, and if that breaks your heart then to bad. Grow up and wait for them to reveal WvWvW instead of having a hissy fit like a two year old!
<snip>
Well yes, I agree with what you said .. you just said in 2 paragraphs what I said in one sentence.
The person I don't agree with is the one saying that there is no conceivable way to demo and make a promotional video of WvWvW. There's not even a need to try to make such a wild argument. Its just not ready yet is all.
Yea exactly my thoughts. He's a repeat Swtor fan poster and is obviously looking for anything he can possibly find to discredit GW2. Sad attempt at best.
Isn't this a case of the pot calling the kettle black.?
Not at all. You dont see me starting whole threads with links to shady critisizms. I COULD easily do that for Swtor. I do commend you on the effort though. Id imagine it'd be a lot harder to find critisism of GW2. You obviously did your best.
But its a failed attempt young padawan. The force is not strong with this one.
You'll do far better to create threads and post links regarding praise for Swtor. Trying to find dirt pertaining to GW2 is going to be too tough a job at this point. Because pretty much everything about the game looks entirely amazing. While looks can be decieving you'll have to wait until there's an actual valid problem (and there will be) pertaining to GW2 before you can realistically try this. Good luck to ya.
But there's no "dirt" to be found for SWTOR either. Both games are unreleased. Its all opinion and speculation at this point. Based on sales numbers there are a large number of mmo gamers that never tried GW1 and probably won't try GW2 either so why aren't there daily threads by people saying "Here's why I'm not going to play GW2 and you shouldn't eiher"? Actually I guess the question is why some games attract more of those people. Its just odd.
Wonder how long it will take for certain people to wake up and understand that this happens with almost any game or MMORPG ever made or being released.
You know, I don't think WvWvW not being demo'd or even shown yet is a big deal. But the reason suggested for it not being shown in this thread is a bit off the wall ilf you think about it.
It can only be demo'd with 1500 computers! Well now that's just silly hyperbole. No mmo has ever been demo'd with 500 computers much less 1500. Yet you can still play a demo to get a sense of how a mmo feels. Heck even in game you're never going to run into all 1500 people at the same time on your screen. Of course it can and will be demo'd at some point when its ready.
No video could possibly show it! This is just as silly. No video can exactly represent everything for any game, much less mmo pvp content. Yet videos are made all the time that can give you a general taste of gameplay. Of course we'll see them releasing videos at some point.
If you follow this reasoning out to its conclusion then when a GW2 WvWvW promotional demo or video is released then you would have to say it is misleading and not at all representative of true gameplay. And how likely is that?
Its just not ready to be shown yet. Which again is fine, but there's no point in making unreasonable excuses for such a non event.
you are wrong, because the way that WvWvW works, you need to cover 3 teams, on 4 big world maps, with >100 machines, you will hardly get to show any of the potencial simply because you cant see how the fights will work. and will make it look much less like it will really be. sure you can say you can extrapilate, but in practice it will not work well for the mechanics of this game combound with the game mode itself
But you could say that about every mmo that's ever had a demo or video, even GW2 itself for the demo's and vids of its other gameplay that's been shown. Yet they've still done them. Its not as if this is the first mmo with rvr with 3 factions and hundreds of players on large maps.
Isn't it more reasonable to just acknowledge its not ready to be shown yet?
you just dont get it, it just would not work. because the demos dont need to show as many people because its not geared towards a small number lower than 1000 people playing. having only 30 a side will not lead to anything but a boring time, and one that does not reveal the true nature of the mode. the whole point is to have more then 100 players, with 100 players there would be no point to even showing the mode. it will not be the same any way you slice it
Do you think on live servers that there will always be 1000-1500 doing WvWvW at all times? Not only that but of course they've designed it with fewer numbers in mind. You're not going to be roaming over the entire map encountering 1500 people in 30 minutes. You're going to be dealing with objectives, encounters, battles, etc within a smaller defined space in any play session where yes you may only see 100+ people. Of course it could be demo'd and video'd .. just like any mmo which is designed with large numbers of players ... you don't see an entire server population in one play session there either.
Look there's no criticism of WvWvW not being show in what I'm saying ... my criticism is about making up spurious reasons about why it was showed when the answer is simple, the devs just aren't ready to show it. Its nonsensical at best and dishonest at worst.
Yea exactly my thoughts. He's a repeat Swtor fan poster and is obviously looking for anything he can possibly find to discredit GW2. Sad attempt at best.

I can't believe I have to spell this out for you.
You called me a SWTOR fan poster. You are a Guild Wars 2 fan poster.
You are calling me out for being negative about Guild Wars 2. All your posts on SWTOR have been negative.
The expression I used is about hypocrisy of your statements. It is hypocritical to point out faults in another when you share them yourself. Hence pot calling the kettle black.
No I got it the first time. You didnt need to spell anything out. And as Ive already said at least I dont post SHADY LINKS and start THREADS that are critical of Swtor. I just give my opinion on threads already started. You've one uped me.
That was the entire point I made the first time. So are you clear on what Im saying?
And if I was going to start an actual thread (which again....I havent) that was critical of Swtor, AND post links in said thread, Id try to post something other than a blog of some random persons opinion thats not more valid than anyones here, and call it a "Critic".
Pot calling the kettle black? Can you please explain that to me again? Ive enjoyed the last couple of times. How about I carefully spell it out to you as to why it doesnt fit and is in not a a clever analogy....
You: Post Positively on Swtor, Post Negatively on GW2, Started Negative Thread Regarding GW2, Post Blogger Links As Though They Were Something Reputable
Me: Post Negatively on Swtor, Post Positively on GW2
Differences high lighted in red. See that? You didnt just POST. You started a whole thread full of fail. And thats exactly what Im commenting on. Thus? "The Pot calling the Kettle Black" in no way works. Period.

Trivial Objection - (also referred to as hair-splitting, nothing but objections, barrage of objections and banal objections) is an informal logical fallacy where irrelevant and sometimes frivolous objections are made to divert the attention away from the topic that is being discussed.
Critic - a person who judges, evaluates or criticizes

I explained it once not a couple of times.
Oh I know thats the general definition of what you think a "critic" is, but thats not what most here really consider a "critic". Because I can be a friggin critic by your definition. Would you like to link my thoughts and call it "Critic worried about Swtor"? Because its just as valid.
Thats the problem. You didnt link anything that had to do with "Critics". See, why some may be confused here is because when we see "Critics" in the title we think you're linking us to an actual professional that does this for a living. Someone maybe associated with a major gaming site or magazine.
So when actual real professional CRITICS actually find something wrong with GW2 feel free to post it. Im sure you will anyways.
But say I like your definition. A critic is EVERYONE. Fantastic. So when I read the flames in the comments section of both of your precious links I'll just have to thank you that you're trying to prove GW2 is going to be awesome. Judging from the "critics" I see in your links.
So before Gamescom it was already known (GW2 blogs) that WvWvW wasnt going to be shown yet on this gameshow. The 2 linked bloggers in the OP somehow didnt know about this and because of this came up with wild assumptions about WvWvW, which simply makes them bad gamereporters. When this was pointed out in the beginning of this thread, it shouldve ended the thread.
Its too bad that the thread title makes it look as if the gamespress in general is worried about Guild Wars 2.

Argumentum Ad Populum (Latin for "appeal to the people") is a fallacious argument that concludes a proposition to be true because many or most people believe it; it alleges: "If many believe so, it is so."
I am not sure you really could show of the mists at a "Con" anyways... I mean you will need a lot of players for that and I don't see GamesCon or PAX having 300+ computers for a demo like that
I don't think even ANET can be 100% sure on how good the mists are until the beta starts. It is in fact the one thing I can imagine moves back the launch several months.
But it is also one of the most important features of the game.

Okay at this point Im highly tempted to start a "Critics Worried about Swtor" which....ha....actually they are. But I wont. Because that would kind of be a rediculous thing to do.
And thats my entire point. If you were actually INTERESTED in GW2 this would be fine. If you were a GW2 fan this would be a discussion. But its not. Because you arent. You're a Swtor fan.
See even the people that start negative Swtor threads are generally interested in the game, hence their thread as to why they're worried. Otherwise its a pretty troll thing to do. Which happens I admit. Just like this thread.
In case you were actually worried about the points presented by your links I think this post sums that issue up nicely....

I'm looking forward to SWTOR for what they have said it will be. Kotor 3, 4, 5 and 6.
I'm actually looking forward to Guild Wars 2 for its PvP. I'm hoping that they nail the WvWvW. It seems like a great concept.
However I remember AoC making less grandiose claims of 48 v 48 Sieges which fell flat at launch. Even Darkfall had serious issues at launch that got ironed out. They managed to have playable mass pvp at about 200-300 vs 200-300. This was about 3 months after launch though before they managed to smooth things out.
So I'll be interested to see if Guild Wars can actually pull it off. It would epic to see 400v400v400 battles.
Wow. What a disappointing attempt at undermining a game that isn't complete yet... two sites I've never heard of admitting the game looks great but they're worried about the PvP shown at Gamescom. Please don't mask your bias, you're really grasping at straws to take your less favorite MMO down a peg, and frankly, after reading the first post, I'm not worried at all.
On the other side of the argument, I watched a new mode of PvP in SWTOR ripped straight out of Monday Night Combat and facepalmed.
I don't see anybody threatned by GW2. But is it against some cardinal rule of GW2 fans to not post a negative blog or impressions from third party?
Basically. As you start to deal with them nothing can possibly be negative about GW2. We will see. Hard to criticize a game 8 months out from an actual release and running on hype.
And SWTOR fans behave in an absolutely IDENTICAL way. For that matter...fans of MOST games do.
Hardly ever see TOR fans not able to accept some people just don't like what they see. Of course they will strike down false information., but that's to be expected.
Buddy, you need to visit Youtube then, where most of this content hits the mainstream view right away. Actually, I've seen Puremallace on there, tearing at GW2 in much the same way he does here and defending SWTOR as viciously and rudely as possible, but coming here, I notice he tries to follow the rules just so he doesn't get banned, then pretends he's looking forward to GW2.
As far as your GW2 comment, the last thread I recall here that was "30 pages of links telling you your eyes are lying to you" was actually GW2 fans striking down false information by Robert Dinh. Is that not to be expected?
Keen: "If all I wanted from PvP was instanced arcade-like fights then I would be ecstatic over Hutt Ball in SWTOR. /gag "
I'm not sure he's even criticizing GW2, he's just concerned it will be like SWTOR.
Edit:
Keen on SWTOR: "Graev and I have both decided we don’t even care about this being a MMO anymore. Anything MMO in SWTOR may just be icing on the cake. A very long Bioware RPG that we can play co-op and with friends is enough to justify wanting the game."
It looks like SWTOR is competing with GW more than with GW2. Maybe you should be spamming those forums?
Waiting for Guild Wars 2, and maybe SWTOR until that time...
You know, if these vainglorious blogmeisters stand as critics then I'm the Prime Minister. Though I'd probably do a better job of Cameron is doing if I were, I am not the PM. Really, those posts are filled with horrible grammar, made up words, and poorly reseached statements which are based upon the subjective observations of bystanders and assumptions rather than facts. This is why these are simply blog posters, and not critics.
There's a reason why buying a domain and slapping a WordPress blog on it does not immediately make you a critic. If the OP genuinely believes that mere blog posters stand as critics then the OP needs to be educated as to what a critic actually is in regars to the various forms of entertainment media and their reviewers. To be a critic you actually have to have some schooling in grammar and journalism, something that none of these blog posters have. I'm not saying I do, either, but then I'm not the one claiming to be a critic, now am I?
In fact, they'd probably be a little worried about being called critics too, because that's a big word to live up to.
OP: If i were to get a blog and made a post there that I believed that you were a bit of an uneducated urchin would my opinion of you hold more weight than your own, or those opinions of other people, simply because I'm a critic? Blogs are social mediums where people post thought and other such babble. Word to the wise: Whilst some critics have blogs, not all blog owners are critics. And your arguments about what a critic is are, let's be honest, patently ridiculous.
I don't mind you posting a bunch of links and saying that you're sharing them as the opinions of a bunch of random bloggers, but by saying tha they're the words of critics you misspoke and that's something you need to stop being stubborn about and admit to. And if you're doing it just to troll then... well, don't you think that's incredibly desperate and scraping the barrel?
I am posting a bunch of links by random bloggers and claiming they're by critics because I don't have anything more than that to prove that GW2 is shite, BUT YET I MUST PROVE IT.
And that's how you sound to me.
Really, if all Guild Wars 2 has to worry about are a few random, disgruntled bloggers (haters gonna hate) then I don't think it has much to worry about at all. When the reviews by real critics start rolling in... well, if there are harsh words and low scores then, then you'll have something to talk about. But let's see what happens, shall we?

Guild Wars 2 definitely seems to have the more rabid fanbase on this site. It's not even really close tbh.
They also like to go to other forums on this site and "preach the faith" to the unbelievers. I haven't really noticed many other fans of any mmo do this.

I dunno, there are plenty of loud TOR fans as well.
Trolls are trolls, no matter if they hate TOR or GW2. For some reasons do all trolls seems to hate one or both those games right now (well, except for one or 2 that had a ongoing crusade against Wow the last few years).

ths happens to every game, dont think SWTOR is a special snow flake on that matter, because it isn't, and you are the living proof
TBH I think this thread proves my point. All I did link two articles and it quickly became a feeding frenzy.
There is a similiar post on the SWTOR forums that has gotten nowhere near the same attention.

A critic is anyone who expresses a value judgement. Informally, criticism is a common aspect of all human expression and need not necessarily imply skilled or accurate expressions of judgement. Critical judgements, good or bad, may be positive (in praise of an object of attention), negative (in dispraise), or balanced (weighing a combination of factors both for and against). Since all criticism must be regarded as having a purpose, a critic may also be definable by his or her specific motivation. At its simplest, and for whatever reason, a critic may have either constructive or destructive intent.
critic - A person who expresses an unfavorable opinion of something.
critic - one given to harsh or captious judgment
critic - a person given to harsh judgments and to finding faults
critic - a person who makes or expresses a judgment on the quality of offerings in some field of endeavor
Maybe you can start a petition to change the defintion to better suit your tastes.
They also like to go to other forums on this site and "preach the faith" to the unbelievers. I haven't really noticed many other fans of any mmo do this.
Do you notice your own posts from time to time? Only strictly SWTOR-fans seem to be coming to the GW2 forum and behave like this. Those were of course the 2 most eagerly awaited MMO's of the moment. SWTOR's hype level isn't enough to really keep it at the top of the rankings anymore though and I guess that's why "SWTOR only"-fans feel most like they need to start throwing dirt at other games.
It's gotten pretty bad after the "why SWTOR doesn't excite me"-feature and it doesn't make SWTOR look any better than it does, quite the contrary. You're only turning away people that are considering playing SWTOR with this type of behavior, you do realize that, don't you?
Waiting for Guild Wars 2, and maybe SWTOR until that time...

critic [?kr?t?k]
n
1. a person who judges something
2. (Literary & Literary Critical Terms) a professional judge of art, music, literature, etc.
3. a person who often finds fault and criticizes
Actually, in this case it is option 1 that should be valid or possibly 2.
Sure, a critic can also mean a whiner but that would be interesting in this case how?
I do prefer to read what people say that actually played the game for at least a few hours, like the press that ANET have invited several times for that reason, but they were actually surprisingly positive to the game, even if the press often are before a game releases.
Any moron can write a blog (actually any moron is writing his/her blog) so bloggers don't have that high standing in the online community. A few of the amateur guys that make online video review do have some popularity, like Angry Joe and Spoony for an example and if it would have been one so called "reviewer" I respect it would have been qanother matter but I really can't see the need for this thread at all.
I am sure that some people wilol get really dissapointed in GW2 when they buy it, more than one people seems to think that this game just is Wow with prettier graphics but either find someone competent worried about the game or wait poting threads like this until you do.

It's gotten pretty bad after the "why SWTOR doesn't excite me"-feature and it doesn't make SWTOR look any better than it does, quite the contrary. You're only turning away people that are considering playing SWTOR with this type of behavior, you do realize that, don't you?
I personally think both sides are looking pretty bad, you got fans of swtor saying GW2 fans are rabid and foaming at the mouth, then you have GW2 fans saying look at his sig hes an obvious SWTOR fan so that breaks all his creditbility because hes just trying to trash the game.
I've had this flung at me before when i mentioned a semi old article, everyone was attacking me and when the article was actually anaylized it was actually pretty close to accurate. Thats just an example though, i've had people post articles about swtor that fans disregarded but when i looked at it, i've also seen they were pretty accurate.
Both sides really need to calm down and relize both games will do well for what they are after, both are getting great reviews from people who played them, some have people worried about things, both have large followings. Naturally people will post blogs, but as there isn't any neccessity to have creditials to write a blog or any validity at all (see EA louse article as a prime example of this) then i take them with a grain of salt becuase at the end of the day. Does this one person's concern really mean anything to the game? So what if he doens't play, ooh GW2 loses a whole 1 or 2 people. I highly doubt this person has that much sway over the community as much as say...Totalbiscut does.
All of these critics, reviewers basing reviews on stuff they think a game should be rather then what it is, and placing out false info that just isn't true need to stop. It's not helping the idustry, it's just making a mess of everything.
At the end Atlan posted a couple of blogs he thought he would share. You can either say hmm i agree or no i disagree, but all this mud slinging back and forth is just making both communities look bad. Really too much attachment to games that haven't even released yet. Let the game speak for itself and stop worrying about what a person who might like or dislike the game writes on his blog.

Both games look great to me so what do I know?
Wonder how long it will take for certain people to wake up and understand that this happens with almost any game or MMORPG ever made or being released.
Period.
Read it all again if you need too. Thanks.
Fuck them critics.

Maybe you can start a petition to change the defintion to better suit your tastes.

critic [?kr?t?k]
n
1. a person who judges something
I personally think both sides are looking pretty bad, you got fans of swtor saying GW2 fans are rabid and foaming at the mouth, then you have GW2 fans saying look at his sig hes an obvious SWTOR fan so that breaks all his creditbility because hes just trying to trash the game.
