I'm sure Huttball will be as fun as Quidditch. They go for the same playerbase anyway.

Huttball seems out of character for a game like this. My "might check it out on trial or when it goes free to play" is now forget this one all together.

I watched one of these latest videos from game con whatever and the player was just standing there while 3 mobs, not 1, not 2 but 3 mobs pounding on him and he's like oh OK i guess i have to kill these guys, so lets see here ummm OK i click this, wait no this one, maybe i should try to go in cover, oh wait i can't go behind cover.

All the while his character is still being pounded on and it was barley even damaged while he's trying to figure stuff out, zero pressure, zero skill, zero challenge, zero fun factor, finally he figures it out and was like pop, pop, pop all dead.

Maybe someone will get all the cut scenes put em together on youtube and you can just watch the movies in sequence instead of having to deal with these obtrusive obstacles they call a game.

Unfortunately it wasn't, they dropped him into the middle one of the epic quest lines for 10 min's to show off story. Which makes it all that worse, he didn't have a clue how to play, what buttons to press, but survived an onslaught of mobs. lol just LOL

Which video was it? The tutorial is part of the "epic quest line", as you call it.

You do know they've been toning down these encounters just for that purpose right? Otherwise guys like this who are dumped into a game at level 20 or so are going to get raped because they don't have a clue.

You know it is pointless to argue with someone like rt33. Every post that goes up about TOR he has to jump in and state his narrow-minded views on how TOR is a fail and WoW clone and this is stupid or that is stupid. I think it makes him feel cool to post negative comments on TOR posts. The funny thing is that I am willing to bet he already preordered the CE and will be playing the game from day 1.

Its a simple question for me.  Do you have to play it or don't you.  If you don't, then I do not understand the problem.  I really dislike the warrior class in MMOs.  Do I not like the game because of this.  No... I simply don't play that class.  Stating that you are offended sounds a bit dramatic to me.  If a very minor part of the game brings that kind of emotion, then its best you don't play.  MMOs tend to bring out strong emotions (As seen in many of these threads) in some people.  I'm not sure its healthy to get that 'offended' by a minor game mechanic.

I self identify as a monkey.

I love how people opinions are tossed around as 100% fact these days.

Cause you know, full voice over quests that can change the direction of it based on what you say or who is in your party, somthing that no other MMO has ever done...is so generic...

I understand that you will probably have those typical go do this and this, or go collect this and this, but really WHAT ELSE IS THERE? Do you really think they can hand craft an MMO where every single quest is unique and "not generic" and have enough content to release with...before we all age and die? doubt it.

But by adding voice overs and more importatnly multiple paths of progression to a lot of the quests (maybe not all but im sure enough to shake things up) is a grand way to break away from the typical MMO norm.

Then only way to get rid of generic quests is to turn this into an Asian grind fest and just remove almost all the quests.

You do realize they tend to turn down the difficulty at these conventions so people who stand in line for 3 hours to play for 15 minutes that have NO CLUE how ot play dont spend the entire 15 minutes dying over an over?

    Try again buddy.

The point is for people to see how these quests lines feel.  Imagine going to a convention, standing in line for hours, getting tossed into a full difficulty dungeon, and you dont even know which button does which, and oyu die in 10 seconds, and they are like, well thanks for standing in line, next!

Not a single person would experience the quest line, and there for they would have failed in advertising that aspect of the game.  So they dumb down the difficulty so people can play what they came to see, how the epic quests work.

After it's launched and the very minor initial novelty wears off, you can all come and tell me your sorry and that i was 110% correct. I'll completely understand and not tell you i told you so either. After all I've been in your shoes more times than I'd like to admit. Rift i didn't fall for, and I'm certainly not falling for this one for even a cent let alone $150. Talk to you a few months after launch.

The question is, if SWTOR is a success and even after a few months proves to be popular and fun, will you do the same. come back here and say 'I am sorry, I was 110% incorrect, SWTOR truly is enjoyable to whole hordes of people'?

Personally, I have accepted the very reasonable stance that other people have different tastes and preferences, so I'm ok with the situation if other people like and enjoy things that I don't or dislike things that I like. So far I haven't had a single regret in playing this or that MMO in the 10+ years that I've been playing them, so I expect to enjoy SWTOR as well. I'm sure that there are lots of players who think the same, they don't care whether an MMO is a sandbox or themepark or wildly innovative as long as they have fun and are enjoying themselves.

This offends me as a Star Wars fan, not an mmo player. The idea of Jedi and Sith tossing a ball back and forth on the same team while killing fellow Jedi and Sith's is completely stupid.

I don't think this idea would have even made it into the 3 crap Star Wars prequals its so bad.

The idea of this 'bg' looks fun, how it's implemented as a long time SW fan has me not playing it, which is a shame (if I even buy the game).

It's interesting, because according to Lucas himself, KotOR is stricken from the canon, all the while Jar Jar is a-ok.

Maybe now the old republic timeline gets to be fully canon, it certainly deserves that.

they should remake phantom menace minus jar jar, and darth maul has more scenes and doesn't die.

Republic and empire will not be playing on the same team. A republic team can play against another republic team, or an empire team against another empire team, that's all.

Of course you'll be here telling us all, how right you were, regardless of the actual quality of the game. Most likely regardless of whether you actually played it or not.

Ok, this ones just bizarre. While I could totaly see a Hutt running something like this.... it really boggles the imagination to see the Jedi Order or the Republic Millitary (or even the Sith or Imperial Millitary) approving of thier members of partaking of something like this. I could see maybe Bounty Hunters or Smugglers.... maybe even the odd Imperial Agent under cover.....going for it...but Jedi, really?

I mean, I'm really not up on my Star Wars Lore...but this doesn't make sense to me.

Jedi Master: " Beware Anger, Hatred, Agression...young Padawan...for these are the path to the Dark Side. When you are Calm and at Peace..then you are at one with the Force. "

    Padawan: "Yes, Master."

Jedi Master: "Great, now lets go play some Huttball and carve up the opposing team for the entertainment of the Hutts. We can cash in on some nice prizes if we win."

Yeah but rp lore nuts are the minority.

    So fun trumps rp.

All I have to show for proof that SWG bent the lore is the quotes from Obi-wan and Yoda in the original trilogy stating that jedi were all but extinct. Where is the "proof" that hutta ball shouldn't be in Star Wars? Clock is ticking.....

You dont need "proof" for common sense because it is.. well common sense. Having two factions who hate each other and want to destroy each other engage into a silly football type game is not common sense.

It would be like Al Qaida and the US Navy Seals playing touch football...

That is where you enter realm of abusrdity when you start comparing a fictional world with fictional factions to real life situations.

It is called immersion. These two factions are out to completely wipe out each other so seeing them playing a silly game against each other is what is absurd.

If this game would be based on Spaceballs then I would agree with you. However it is not and I imagine if this would be so "fun" then I would be in the movies as well.

Actually, you see sports games that are shown on big screens in the movies as well. Besides, there's a lot of 'fun' scenes and situations that can be found in the SW Expanded Universe as well, besides the movies (look up 'expanded universe' if you don't know what it means).

I wouldn't worry about it though, it's not as if you had any intention of playing the game anyway, right? image
