I try to write this as neutral and as friendly as I am capable. I try to avoid a certain topic, which only will cause a flamewar. I will not speak about the reasons, just how I feel, because spending in this game community for 5 years I feel I have to share this with you.
Since 2008, I followed the making of SWTOR. I read every post many times, I analyzed every picture, I watched every video many times. Being a huge fan of Star Wars and Bioware RPGs, despite all small things I did not like, I was greatly looking forward to SWTOR, and I honestly felt, it would be a dream of a lifetime of gaming. Yes I know some of you may not see me that way, because I critizised some things and went mad at others, but I always kept a great love and hope for this game.
Now things have transpired. And these 3 days have been bad. I know you may say, pathetic, how can one cling so to a mere MMORPG that it affects him so. Sorry. But so it is. I spent the last 3-4 days all on the official SWTOR forum, renewing the Dev Tracker every hour, thinking this must be a mistake. It must be a dream. It is just some small error! And all will be made good soon. But now, after 4 days of silence I realize. It is the truth.
We. Do. Not. Exist. In Star Wars. It is a world where love is only for you, and for us.
I do not want to discuss the reasons or the validity. Following the short and soon locked discussion here on this forum and seeing the replies has disheartened me further. I never thought a MMO forum was a place for idealists. But it was even for my cold and old heart a cut. The scorn, the mockery, the acidic comments.
And there I stand, looking at a place that does not want me. That wants me and all of my kind out, away, invisible, and 1000s of people clap and hurrah and this. I always wonder what we did that some hate us so much, when all we wanted was the same acceptance for love as you have for you. And I look at a hobby, that was supposed to make me feel better as escapism from a hard life, and now all the darknes and scorn and strife from RL has caught up with the hobby I so used to love and I see, there is no place to escape for the likes of me. And what shall I do? Leave behind the hobby I love because some people meet my kind with hate and mockery only?
But that you, Bioware, of all people left us in the rain, that hurt me. Like some familar friend out of the blue stabbed me in the back.
Laugh about it all you must. It is always easy to laugh about someone.
A friend of mine, who stopped playing games 2 years ago, sent me this cartoon with the words: This is why I stopped playing Online Games.
I can't laugh about it. Because it is way too true.

The worst thing of it all is, that we can't even discuss it, despite the fact that this is a forum supposed to discuss, because a handful acidic & mean people will flame and troll until all discussions are destroyed and all threads are closed. And I know they always win. I am old enough to understand that.
Still I have to leave this message here, whatever may come afterwards.
Thanks.

No. Just don't get consumed by your hobby. It's not healthy pysically or mentally. An hour or two a day, or every other day, should be the max time for any video game. Like most things in life, you need to take control of your life, whether in games, medicine, or drugs.
I love your link :-)
Feel free to discuss, and understand that each of us comes for our own form of forum fun :=P. Maybe you can imagine that they are roleplaying a troll in another MMORPG called MMORPG.com
Yep, that announcement is a bummer, and I offer you my condolensces. I wish they would not have made that decision, but don't forget that you may find other players to interact with who are supportive and positive. That may make up for things somewhat.

I feel for you. I really do.
Take note that this is only *some* people that may dislike or not cater to "your kind" but thats not everyone, hell I wouldn't even say the majority. The biggest problem is... misuse. You have that problem in most games nowadays, so, whilst you may not always find a place for you everywhere, I think you would feel less aggravated and/or disappointed if you had a series of friends that you play with consistently.
Sometimes thats a little much to ask if you aren't interested in socializing much, but I think you'd enjoy yourself more and care less about what others think or what they'll "allow" when you have some people that you can.. "trust".. .. at least in the online gaming sense.
what announcement is this about? what happened? where am I right now?
I don't think MMOs are healthy for you, and I don't just mean on a physical level. You take them waaaayyyyy too serious. The reality is they probably just didn't have the resources or time to put in same gender relations for every single class (and they would have to do it for every class, otherwise it would be tilted). Fact of the matter is, you are a minority, you aren't likely to be catered to... and your complaint carries no more (less actually) weight than an Asian player being pissed off because he doesn't have any asian romance options. Anyway, I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't add them at some point in the future.
However, again.. you take this stuff way too personal. You need to step away from gaming and evaluate your personal life.
If I had to take a guess, and I don't think its much of a guess.. I think he's referring to this:
http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?p=8382592#edit8382592
But, this is common in MMOs, and this wasn't the first time they mentioned this. In fact, there was a similar thread started almost a year or so ago when Dahlberg was still leading the charge on the forums... I think it was even crazier then because there was a comment floating around that "this orientation" is not present in star wars. Paraphrasing of course.
In my past experience, I hear the term "haters" a lot. But I have never seen a more vile lot than those who are sometimes best referred to as "fanboys".
Some people may hate on a game, or offer suggestions or be critical of a game, but faboys do one of two things. They cheer and clap their hands no matter what a developer might do, or they personally insult anyone who doesnt comply with that attitude to the highest extent. This is the internet. Its just the way it is.
The term "hater" might apply to someone who hates a game. But there's no truer hater than a rabid fanboy. Because they hate on actual people.
I have limited experience with this, but I have experienced it especially with Star Trek Online back in the day. Look how that game turned out. Ive been on other game forums and not experienced this at all. I only seem to experience it when there's a game that may have real problems. The more there is to be critical of said game, the bigger the fangs of the fans get. Before long they're drooling rabid animals that will devour and dog pile even the slightest hint of criticism.

ah ok. sorry, eli.
Really? And here I was thinking he was upset over Huttball. But really, I agree with the person who already stated you shouldn't be playing MMOs Elikal. You take them far to seriously for it to be healthy for you. It doesn't matter if everything is going great and you're having a great time, or if everything is going wrong and you're miserable, nobody should sink that much of themselves into a game...any game.
Oh seriously. You guys need to get over this issue already. There was already a news discussion thread for it. Don't need another.

I thought we had known about this for awhile. At least since comicon.
You really had to see this coming though. From the sounds of it even the hetero side is tamer than usual for a Bioware game.
Yeah I feel you on this one, it sucks there has to be a winner or loser when it comes to these things. This is def ground Bioware has covered before, so i really don't put it on them. I blame those that have a problem with this sort of thing, they're the true problem.
To SB fans, please stop making our demographic look bad.Stop invading threads that have nothing to do with sandboxes.

I don't mean to sound flippant, but what is this post about? The decision not to include same-sex romances? It's the only news of magnitude from the last few days I can recall.
If so, I'm with you. I thought it was pretty spineless of them, though I'm more prepared to think it was a LA or EA decision than a BW one, given their track record.
You are probably right.
See, I love romance stories. Yes, I am that person. I giggle at romantic anime cartoons, straight and gay. Like Ah my Goddess (straight!). I love that. I mean, I am still a serious average guy, if you see me. Heck, I have a gun and I am member of a shooter club. (Not sure this is the right English term.) So I am not only a softie. But I have that soft side and I love stories and I love LOVE-stories! Romances.
So I miss it. It kinda hit me because of that. I know many don't care about romance stories, they want to shoot stuff only, and that's ok. I too shoot stuff. But not only.
I just hoped here would be a haven, a place to experience something that I rarely have the chance to. And they DID bring it in so many of their games, so I was expecting it. I guess most people did.

It would be easy to dismiss your feelings, since I can't say a decision like that impacts me personally, but I think some people are far too callous about it when if the roles were reversed they themselves would throw the ugliest of fits.
If it is any consolation "you" do exist in Star Wars, maybe not in SWTOR, but in Karen Traviss' books you do.
I personally couldn't care less if they took out romances period.
It's probably last on the list of reasons for me to play this game.
xD i remember when i was 13 writing anoying messages such as these threads. Okay so we get you have no life and you want attention. But dont just start making a bunch of threads out of know where for people who actaully take the MMO World seirously as a job.
This.
In a single player, maybe, but not in an MMO. All it causes is people from the player base to whinge about some thing silly as what has been happening about this issue.

Im just amazed this is an actual issue. Ive come to the conclusion that the world is just completely insane.
Apparently video games have had it wrong from the very start. Mario wasnt supposed to rescue the Princess in the castle! Thats rediculous! It should have been Luigi, or maybe a nice italian named Fredrico, who Mario then passionately made out with upon game completion.
Honestly, from the online petitions going to have Seseme Street announce that Bert and Earnie are gay, to this. Im just getting really tired of the gay agenda.
Han fell in love with Leia? What bullox! We all know Han and Luke had a thing going on! I mean, thats just SOOO Star Wars! Excuse me while I barf in a bucket.
And this.
I'm glad I'm not the only sane person around here.
If you're offended by "not being represented." Then don't play. If there was not a 'heterosexual' option in a game. I probably wouldn't play it either.

I am sorry if I offended you. It was not my intention. And I do not know what these things you say nor do I support them.
Just, when all get a cake, I ask for a tiny piece for me too. That is all. I don't want to take anything from you away. ^^

whoa, whoa, wait a minute.
Have you ever been disenfranchised? Have you ever felt like a second class citizen or felt marginalized?
I never had until the time I was in New Mexico and entered a taco bell. Suddenly the entire restaruant stopped and became silent and just stared at me. that's because I was the only white person in the restaruant.
It's pretyt easy to start saying you are tired of the x agenda but if you were always considered a second class citizen whose likes and dislikes were considered "less than" then you might have been playing a different tune.
Some advice for you, go watch the movie "Watermelon man". It's a realy good movie and one that really makes you think. You might have to look around for it but it might just expand that mind of yours and really make you think that there are people out there who work hard, have friends, contribute, do brilliant work and yet they are considered outsiders.
Imagine if everything you liked, loved and believed in was suddenly made to be an aberration by society. You might think that "cool" but I wonder how long you would think that it was "neat" to be different. there are many people out there who are just waiting to be tolerated. Not accepted, not anything but tolerated and wanting to go about thier lives.
I know plenty of gay people and some you'd never peg as "gay" unless they told you. They lament the fact that they pay taxes, do good work and have friends who get to enjoy the things in life that you might take for granted yet they have to skulk around in fear of being beaten up just because they are who they are.

Pick something about the game that you find important, then have it arbitrarily removed. I'm sure you'd not hesitate to make a very public show of your displeasure in the forums. And if that one thing was completely unimportant to me, I'd like to think I'd at least have the decency to not completely denigrate your perspective, even if I don't share it.
Empathy is a chore. Why bother when callous disregard is so much easier?
