For your information, this article makes me want to play Guild Wars 2 less than I did before. There is no real open world PvP, it is a WvWvW concept with a copied character which you earn rewards on.
I could go on with a few other things but I have something to do, have fun and try not to kill each other.
Actually, it's not a copy of your character.

I guess I'm stupid. I seriously have absolutely no interest in playing another swords/horse/dirt road/castle/rogue/orc/dwarf game. If it isn't Sci-Fi, I have no desire to even look twice at it. Well maybe EQNext but that will be for pure nostalgia sake. I beta tested Guild Wars and it just didn't have what it took to captivate me. I tried Guild Wars a few months after release and guess what? It wasn't for me. I'll go hang out in my space ship and dual wield pistols while you go swing a sword, we can both be happy. I'll be in the stupid people line and you can be in the "Everyone needs to agree with me or they are stupid line" otherwise known as the asshole line. I seriously doubt GW2 will be the cure for MMO cancer that everyone thinks it will be. Thanks for the article, made me really see the light, no really. I now realize that unless I agree with your point, I'm stupid.

To be honest I'm still trying to figure out why GW2 has such hype around it, and why people are giving ArenaNet such a vote of confidence. My understanding is ArenaNet has just developed one game so far correct? GW1 and expansions?
They have no real MMO experience and in my opinion GW1 had one of the clunkiest interfaces I've played since maybe Daggerfall in the mid-90's. There is no way that I would spend my time messing around doing PVP with an interface that clunky. Rule #1 for good PVP is a solid and responsive interface. They can have the most balanced approach to team-based PVP in the world but if they can't succeed with the interface it is a fail PVP game (in my opinion).
Sure, there is no monthly fee, and maybe the younger gamers here give that a huge boost to its rating, but as an older game with a job my time is way more important than a measly $15 monthly fee. This time around they better at least deliver a smooth and responsive interface with a camera that doesn't fight you the whole time you are playing. Invisible walls everywhere and you can't even jump? Seriously? The more I play GW1 the more I realize how bad that interface is. You get used to it of course but there is no excuse for that. Sure it is an older game now but even for the time it was a significant step back from other MMO and FPS interfaces.
I for one don't really have any confidence they can match the hype, other than the hype of no monthly fee.
i think my chips are betting that Bioware pulls off the better game, but I'll try to keep an open mind. Man I wish I didn't pick up the GW1 trilogy a few weeks ago. Totally ruined my confidence in these guys. I'd much prefer to be still believing the hype...

I can think of a few things I didnt like about GW1, the interface being clunky would have never came to mind. You are probrably confusing it with other things like the invisible wall and jumping, which a quick look for information about GW2 would tell you that it will be fully persistent world and you can jump. PVP was one of the strong points about GW1, and its build quality is as good as WoW's in my opinion. I know everyone has their own opinion but my opinion would be that its safe to say that "clunkiness" will not used by the majority. To each their own. So what about the article didn't make sense to you, maybe we can provide the answers.

I am well aware of the features of GW2 and I was actually starting to buy into the hype, hence I finally bought the GW1 trilogy to see what I've been missing. I was just relating my deep dissapointment with GW1 (which also had high praise by many) and hence my much diminished confidence that GW2 will be as great as people are claiming. In my experience the best way to judge a new iteration of a game is to see what the developers have delivered in the past. And seems like all I can go by is GW1, which despite having some innovative concepts was pure amateur hour as far as the interface goes, in my opinion of course.
But I am an avid PVPer and have logged maybe more hours playing PVP games than some on this message board have been alive LOL. A smooth and responsive interface is paramount to fun PVP for me at least...

For the life of me I cant understand the whole concept of desperately trying to turn people on to a game. If you're having to do that, either the friend just isnt into it and thats fine, or the game itself must be lacking in some way.
Its cool to be excited about something but mmorpgs arent for everyone. Gaming isnt for everyone. GW2 will not be for everyone. Im not sure why people (such as the guy who wrote the article), insist on making it otherwise.
Im really looking forward to GW2. Its my next big mmo. But this assumption that people are somehow ignorant or stupid because they dont care about it is stupid and ignorant in and off itself. Personally I dont really care if people who arent that excited about GW2 buy it or not. Even if they're a friend. Live and let live.
I'll find people to play with when I install the thing. One way or the other. Ive shown it to friends and typically they say, " thats really cool looking" but they dont say they're going to buy it or play it. Most of my friends are seriously casual players if at all. Im perfectly okay with that.

I'm very hyped for GW2, but I hate GW1 with a passion. It's one of the least accessible games I've played, requiring you to use the wiki and look up optimal builds just to play through the story, which I'm still trying to finish to better understand the lore, along with restricting you from a lot of content if you don't play with an optimal group. I actually reached a boss in Eye of the North that was literally unkillable with my current build and setup. I had to look it up online, and the only help I could find recommended builds that used skills I hadn't even unlocked. I fear I'm going to have to have someone actually walk me through it.
There are countless things that ArenaNet did wrong in GW1, many of which you listed, but when I hear them talk about GW2, it almost seems like they agree with me. Any time they bring it up, they usually mention some problem their first game had, some mistake that they don't want to make again.
That's why I'm hyped. It's a lot less about what they think they're doing right and a lot more about what they know they won't do wrong.

Fell for the hype and picked up GW1 few weeks ago. It is obvious that it's strongest selling point was B2P model and that the game itself is mediocre at best. Despite the fact that Anet is doing a lot of things different with GW2 my level of confidence is not as high after playing GW1.
Anyone else wondering if this "article" wasn't just a trolling attempt or something meant to turn people off to the game?
The guy hasn't responded to criticisms or changed the inaccuracies pointed out in the article. Most of us agree it's NOT an article you'd want to have someone read if you wanted to interest them in the game.
Pointless thread about an article that doesn't achieve it's supposed point.
After dealing with some friends and some people on the internet who seem to think that GW2
is a Korean MMO, WoW Clone, and not innovative, I decided I'd write this article to kindly get them to shut up and quit having the same arguement over and over again.
Any of you guys getting some problems convincing your friends to play GW2 - or hell, look at information on it?

1.A big letdown for me concerns the races choises. There are no elfs which is my 1st choises in ebery rpg or mmorpg. There are the sylvari but it has nothing to do with elfs (ridiculous tree like creature).
2.Is there 2v2 3v3 5v5 arena ranked with ladder games in pvp? I know it has some sort of bigger in numbers ranked pvp system 10 vs 10 or 15 v15 (cant recall) but i remmber in wow even for 5v5 it was hard all 5 to be online at same time, many times and we had problems due to thast, so i imagine 10 vs 10 or 15 vs 15 will be ahell more hard to all 10 or 15 ppl be opnline at same time.
3.Although im a big fan of oblivion , M&B (manual combat system) and from what it seems GW2 has a similar combat system in a way, im curious in rush hours or big battles ,even in small battles how lagg will affect the real time manual didges aiming attacks etc etc . Secondly Oblivion and M&B has slower paced combat and when we talk about manual combat imagine 10 vs 10 or 15 vs 15 with 20 or 30 pppl jumping around casting spells sprinting and attacking , it will be a mess u wont be able to tell whats happening around u who to protect who to help and when. In such combat system in extensively stated my opinion and proved that manual combat system needs to be slow and realistic in rythm of pace aka M&B warband so player even in huge battles can observe and understand whats going around him even in mass battles. And sadly as i observed from videos GW2 is quite fast paced in terms of combat speed sprinting etc etc and im afraid the case battles will like some games we watch and laugh cause it remind us benny hill movies with player spam jumping sprinting like frogs around. I hope that is not the case.
Rest details of GW2 leave promises for something good new and refreshing compared at least with the copy woiw paste shit we ve been served to eat last years from various devs.

Ah, nice to know that anyone that disagree's with your view of GW2 is ignorant.
While I do think GW2 will be a decent MMO, I personally am not that interested in playing it.
On a side note, if GW2 is as good as you seem to think it is, why would anyone need to be convinced to play it?

Don't think its the disagreeing that bothered him, was the fact that they seem to disagree with him on false or misinformation alone, instead of actually knowing what they are talking about
That article was decidely underwhelming and unconvincing. It was basically "you can dodge! No really!!" I'm interested in GW2 and you just managed to make the game sound ridiculously shallow.

He is linking to an article named "Guild Wars 2 Be Interested Not Ignorant" which suggests that if you are not interested in GW2, you are ignorant.
If you waste a few seconds and actually look at the article, you will see he also suggests people are stupid for not wanting to play an MMO.
The OP likes GW2, thats great, people not liking it at all, or to a lesser degree than the OP, does not make them Ignorant, and not wanting to play an MMO does not make people stupid.
This thread and that article might make the OP both though.

Actually, I wonder if you even looked at the article, while I don't like the article, saying stuff like "GW2 is a asian game" is nothing but ignorant and stupid. Not liking the game on because you don't like what it features is OK, not liking the game because of what you think it features its pretty ignorant.
Can you jump in Guild Wars 2? Is every adventure zone everywhere a private instance for you or your group?
In Guild Wars 1, everywhere was a private instance apart from the city hub...... Also, in Guild Wars 1..... I tried to jump over a fence that barely reached my characters knees to run down the hill behind it.... I was absolutely disgusted to the point of uninstallation when I discovered I couldn't jump (In an mmo? I can't jump in an mmo? What.....The.......F**k?)........ When I discovered that I couldn't even walk up or down the gentle sloping hill, I thought about the money I paid for the game and threw up a little.
........ And that's all I have to say about Guild Wars.
"It's like a finger pointing away to the moon... Don't concentrate on the finger or you'll miss all the heavenly glory" (Bruce Lee)
(Insert your favourite mmo here): ......And behold, a pale horse.... And a million hellishly bad mmos followed with it.

Ah I read the article differently, same thing SW:TOR does for warzones. So it is basically just a large battleground.

Some people wont be into GW2 believe it or not..

Game has elves: "OH ANOTHER GAME WITH ELVES IM SO FREAKING TIRED OF THE SAME ELVES EVERYWHERE I LOOK IN A FANTASY MMO"
Game has no elves: "OH GOD I HAVE NO ELVES TO PLAY I FREAKING LOVE ELVES, WHY IS THIS THE ONLY GAME WITH NO ELVES"
ppl can't decide
"I am not a robot. I am a unicorn."
A creative person is motivated by the desire to achieve, not the desire to beat others.
Don't think its the disagreeing that bothered him, was the fact that they seem to disagree with him on false or misinformation alone, instead of actually knowing what they are talking about
"I am not a robot. I am a unicorn."
A creative person is motivated by the desire to achieve, not the desire to beat others.
