GW2 vs. SW:TOR

=================================================================================================

GW2 vs. TOR

****

To me there are only two MMOs that have been on my mind for years. For years I have been searching and have either got bored with, or ended up displeased with all MMOs. I have hope for TOR and GW2 to entertain gamers for more than a couple of months unlike other MMOs. *cough* WoW *cough* *Cough*.

=================================================================================================

Price

Looking at this constant war bewteen the two games of which is better... I just cannot decide which game to pick. Money wise both will probably be about the same. TOR has $15 a month, while GW2 has B2P with a fluff shop which I will most likely get items from. That being said plus the all known expansions from Areanet will basically even out the price.

=================================================================================================

Genre

I know 100% of all my friends love both genres (Sci-fi, Fantasy). I know 100% of my friends love starwars, and most fantasy movies/games (LotR, Conan, Elder Scrolls Represent!) so your personal choice on which genre is out the window due to the fact that you cannot decide on a genre. (This clearly does not apply to all, its here to make a statement)

=================================================================================================

It comes down to what is in the game, and which offers the better service.

Well whats in the game? (Two list that are made of features that are important,

feel free to tell me more and I'll add them)

GW2:

5 Races, 8 Professions, Viscerl/Dynamic/Visual Combat, Dynamic Events, Personal Stories, Dungeons, Player vs. Player, Guildhalls, Player House, Full World, Underwater Combat

My Personal selling Points:

The fact that GW2 has nice game mechanics, great combat, and for the first time I am actually interested in PvP!!!! Im stoked for it, really I am! You can jump through windows or be sneaky, dodge attacks. It takes skill and tactics for this, no more WoW easymode. The underwater combat... Great idea! Now I can battle on all terrains! Sweet! The future promise for Guildhalls and player housing. Kinda disapointed that it wont be out at release... Just hoping that it will be FREE and not cost me an expansion or something.

=================================================================================================

TOR:

Personal Stories, 8 Races, 16 Classes, Visually Impressive Combat, PvP, Space Combat, Companion, Player Ship (House), Crafting (in ship), Crew Skills (Crafting, missions, ect), Guilds, 17 Planets, Dungeons.

The selling points (my personal opinion):

What really has me on TOR is that fact of having a ship, that is used for means of transportaion, crafting, and my own personal space. The fact that you can have space battles is awesome aswell. The Companion/Crew Skills also has me. Other than that, everything else is just blah to me. I do not know if that is enough to keep me going.

=================================================================================================

Service

Well EA has a bad rep, but Bioware has a pretty good one. So I cannot really comment on that other than I usually

stay away from EA. As for Areanet.. They never did really updated GW1 as much as I thought they could. This was due to the fact that they had a smaller team than they do now. So this is subject to change when GW2 is released.

Also this was stated: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WLnaNw8r8M

=================================================================================================

This War

Fanboys of each game will defend the game with there honor, however its going to far to insult people and

treating them with such disrespect. The interent wasn't invented as an outlet to let your treat others with disrespect.

Arguements are made in every other post! Its like its in the damn air you breath! Don't reply to Trolls! Ignore them.

What is a troll? Someone who clearly has had too many bad days and finds it entertaining to disrispect and annoy others.

Simply just ignore them. They'll leave eveuntally and go on to the next games coming out.

=================================================================================================

Last Part

Both have pros and cons and neither of them can be deemed worthy of a title such as...THE BEST MMO ever.

The best option is to wait, wait even longer to see what happens. Wait till TOR comes out and ask people how it plays ect. Get personal reviews of it. If you are unsure then buy it and try it out, it comes with a month free. If its not to your liking than buy GW2. But please stop this nonsence war of which game is better than the other. Neither game is out! To can't say a game

is better when it isnt eve out yet! This war needs to end, but it most likely wont and people are honestly fed up with it. I read it everyday on these forums and I finally decided to give my two cents.

****

Thanks for reading this!

Hopefully this either helped you decided which to pick, or atleast inform you.

    This really comes down to the same nonsense Versus talk between TOR and D3. Personally although I see GW2 just as much of an MMO as TOR there is no subscription for GW2 so even if they released on the same day I would buy both. If they both had subscriptions then I would likely choose one and play it until i decided whether I liked it or not, then buy the other if my decision was that I didn't like the first choice.

    I look at GW2 as I look at single player or co-op games without subscriptions. If I buy it, play it a while and am not too keen on it then i'll probably still have had my moneys worth in entertainment value. There are very few games which i've bought and haven't derived any entertainment from whatsoever. To go and watch a movie it generally costs me a similar price to the box value.

    I don't like D3 anymore because of the real life money transactions through the game now. And to me GW2 is more of an MMO, while ToR is like single player game to me. GW2 has put effort into trying to get players to be more social and play with eachother, while ToR, to me, doesn't really have that. Please correct me if I am wrong.

    Funny how this thread, which will soon engulf in flames, was created right after this article was put out. Funny coincidence, don't you think. ^_^

    It's become more of a tradition that a GW2 vs SW:TOR thread must be created every week, on this site. I'm surprised it took this long, since the last one 2 weeks ago.

    Uhm, TOR has a fluff shop as well.

    There is no way box + monthly fees = box.

    I did actually read that article before, even before I made my account. The point of this was just to share some of my PERSONAL OPINIONS of the two games.

    @Loke666: What are you talking about?

    Try them both when they come out and then decide??

    TOR has more classes then that, has PvP, and a very long personal story arc. If you are also going to list whats "planned" for one after release, I am sure some of the more hardcore TOR fans can list what BW has said they hope to add.

    The long story arc, are you reffering to the 200 hours of gameplay? I also fixed the number of classes, thou I meant it as starting classes. Doesn't matter I guess.

    Buying both. They initially probably won't be in competition for me.

    Also, why the fuck do so many write ToR with small O? It's The Old Republic, not The old Republic. That shit just looks weird.

    I think I'm going to be different and say NEITHER!

    HELLO KITTY ONLINE

    .. but ya'll know I'm going to be buying both GW2 and TOR... and the next WoW expansion, and probably keep playing RIFT, and keep hoping and dreaming for a new/real/awesome sandbox MMO title that is actually good and not FFA PvP w/ full loot and other ridiculous and archaic "design" philosophies...

    So umm...

    lol?

    After reading what everyone says, the disrespect, and foul crap that is said to one another... And listening to so much BS on XBL.. I tend to take it like a grain of salt, thou I thought this community was somewhat more mature. No disrespect to you in anyway and thank you for apologizing. =)

    These game vs game threads are just dumb. It's kinda like Star wars the movie vs Lord of the rings the movie, Ya one might have better actor's and one might have better special effects, but in the end who really gives a crap, they were both great movies.

    Anyone who is a fan of MMORPS's will try them both, hell I bet most of us here try them all. And anyone who is truly subjective will find good & bad in both titles.

    just my 2 cents

    What Loke666 was trying to say is that you just can't equate the Box price & Monthly sub of SW:TOR to the Box price & Fluff Item store of GW2, when SW:TOR will also have an Item store (EA anyone).

    In the end, the pricing will be like this:

    SW:TOR: Box price + Monthly sub + Optional Cash shop + Expansions

    GW2: Box price + Optional Cash shop + Expansions

    So in the end, GW2 wins out on saving people money & I doubt they'd be able to pump out Boxed expansions quicker than about 12 months apart from one another. So none of that "the $50 expansions will make up for the $180 you would've had to pay for a sub fee".

    Price

    Looking at this constant war bewteen the two games of which is better... I just cannot decide which game to pick. Money wise both will probably be about the same. =================================================================================================

    Okay so re-read this part for me please.... I will most likely purchase a couple name changes, character slots, and costumes along with other things. It would be around the same price for me.

    Lets just say neither game will have DLC for the first year and that there is no such thing as tax?

    So the total price for SWTOR is $180 (Monthly fee for a year) + $60 (Cost of Game) = $240

    Now from GWs fluff shop (taken right from GW1 the game):

    New Character Slot = $9.99 + Costume = $6.99 - $9.99 + Make Over = $9.99 + Character Name Change = $14.99 + Extra Storage = $9.00            All this = 51.95 - 54.95

    So take the price of the fluff shop items (I'll use the lowwer price) plus the game itself.  51.95 + 60.00 = 111.95

    But you see there is a catch with GW2, I am buying two copies of it. So 111.95 + 60.00 = 171.95

    That isnt the end thou, you see the second copy is for my wife, and she will want all the fluff items too so add another 51.95 to 171.95 which is $224

    It is safe to say that yes, they are around the same price for me. You see she wont be partaking in TOR because she much rather play GW2.

    OK, you do make a fair point that you are clearly refering to yourself and your own spending habits; whereas all I would buy is more character slots (I want one of every profession) and maybe some extra content, depending on what it is (like GW1's Missions).
