Awesome, cant wait and even on a weekend! We all know how great SV "videos" are.
Strange for Mats to be posting this.
Edit:
* Mats has never posted in this section , thus my moment.
I win!!! LOL@U
Do you think this will be implemented successfully or will it be crippled by bugs Rohn? Not "a bit buggy", but crippled for months.
If you think the former, given the past record of SV in coding and implementing ideas, why? Nothing else works properly, why should this?
My own prediction is that it will be crippled by bugs if it ever appears ingame at all.
{mod edit}
im also excited hanoverz, we can be excited together
i think mats is the best guy SV have, so when he makes a post i tend to read it. cant wait to see what they have in store for us. Im certain there will be bugs but fingers crossed there wont be any that are serious. i really liked all their videos. that first trailer the in engine render one i thoguh was pretty awesome, i also liked both the beta/release trailers and the recent unoffical dawn preview. Hmm and that impressions video was kinda cool to. But i think the community have made some better videos like mortal online history.

there are 2 types of mmo, imitators and innovaters.
I'm also interested in the information about territorial control. As you said, there will likely be some bugs, but hopefully nothing serious. Probably best to reserve judgment until it actually hits the server.
Depending on how it works, I'd say it will likely make a lot of people pretty happy. I know some players had been asking to have control of the NPC towns tied to control of the region - wonder if something like that will be incorporated into the game.

My all time favorite is the Rocket Pig. Sadly I didnt find a video during this quick search. Perhaps someone would be brave enough to play. FRAPS it and post. =D
Anyhow, its late and I am too tired or I could surly add to the list of "our favorite" MO vids.
They are all awesome!!! Keep up the good work.
I win!!! LOL@U
I bet this video will look fantastic. But like Town Life and other MO videos, we may never see it anyhow (because they need to fix X,Y, and Z before implementing territory control and in order to fix X, Y, and Z they will need to rewrite the whole friggin alphabet. )
And if it does get releasesd it will probably be buggy beyond belief and break half the "working as intended" parts of the game.
...But lets not assume anything or reserve judgment...
lol my favs are the first vid and spiderpig, i kinda miss that first bug i forgot how awesome it was. Damn those pesky pigs why is it the majority of weird shit involves a pig in MO lol rest were subpar in my opinion. torch bug was rubbish .
seems like alot of the old bug videos from beta and early release are difficult to find now like rocket pigs and that awesome elephant one
there are 2 types of mmo, imitators and innovaters.
Nothing "sells" MO like MO.
I love the videos and free trial
I win!!! LOL@U
I shall withold judgement until I see the content of the video later today.
It's obvious that the game has been hemmoraging subs recently. This smells exactly like the first time they tried for "Territory Control". It was rushed into the game because several large guilds either quit or were threatening to do so. It resulted in the pointless system in game today. The biggest reason for skepticism is that they never mentioned this as a focus until yesterday. They repeatedly claimed that they were focusing their limited resources on AI/Magic/UI and have done so since Dawn released (well actually much much longer, but let's go with Dawn for now).
So either:
a. They will once again promise something that "will be in the game at some point... but not yet"
b. They are making small changes to the system. Perhaps changing the rewards for territory control as opposed to the actual siege mechanics.
c. They secretly have worked on this total revamp for the last 3 months and telling us that AI/Magic/UI was their focus was just a joke...
Anyhow, here are my hopes for the system:
1. Totally revamped siege system which actually allows capture of assets as opposed to simple destruction. Additional mechanics to support actual siege weapons and tactics. (No more hitting the "Launch Boulder" button for 2 hours....).
2. Fixing the "Failed" bug once and for all. It is pointless to have territory control when the game cannot handle more than a dozen people on both side without them turning invisible and failing to track their movement. Especially in a game that is 1st person twitch based.
3. Allow a much larger degree of control to the group which owns the territory. If I own an area, allow me to set rules by which the guards will attack. Let me set an outlaw list (individual and guild). If I own a town, and am a RPK, I should still be able to ride into my own town and not get instagibbed by guards.
4. Implement some better resource control. Give folks more REASONS to fight among themselves for control of territories. Yes, it's a sandbox and the players should decide who to fight, but given them some sand to fight over. Perhaps some resources or even skills that can only be obtained in certain places...
5. Safeguard against the GM/Councellor interference which has plagued numerous asset fights previously
So, in summary I will wait and see what they actually announce and what they say about WHEN it will be in. Afterall, there is a clear history of over promising and under delivering. I think even the biggest fan will agree with that.

Whats that supposed to mean? The "town life" video was posted June 2010 and still isn't implemented. We looking at week, month, year?
I win!!! LOL@U
i stopped reading right there. sorry but SV is not capable of fixings stuff "once and for all".
To put this statement into context: This is the very same SV employee who said that the totally revamped UI was much closer to being implemented than we thought. Of course he said that a very long time ago (I want to say Christmas but I would be guessing). Suffice to say that the UI is still under development... Let's see what the video brings though. It should be out any minute now as the day in Europe is coming to an end shortly.

Hello everyone,
The video is currently being transferred to me for review, barring any issues it will be up later today. I'm not going to spoil anything so far, but this is not just a "Townlife Teaser", aspects of this are already on or being readied to be deployed for testing.
I ask everyone to be patient for a little bit more.

Interesting to note the specific wording there "ASPECTS of this are already..."
Will this be implemented piecemeal? Will it be like fishing? Let's see what they say...

Indeed, let's see what they say, before we start a critical supposition based on speculation and ignorance.
Personally, I'm wondering why a video was selected as the medium to provide information about this type of system.

What better way to build hype? SV does have a talent for making awesome videos.

The info is up:

Territory Control Update
Territory control will be recieving a major and much needed facelift, we are excited with the changes and the prospects this will bring to our players. The Meta-Game is always an important and fundemental aspect of any proper Sandbox MMORPG, and as such these changes will finally allow players to truly take charge and ownership of their land. Things such as individual player flagging, taxation and even the take-over of some towns will now be possible We know that "Sandbox Tools" is something that has often been requested by our players, this should appeal not only to those who wish to engage in PvP, but also more peacefull players who will take pride in their territory and carefully manage it.

Looks like they listened to some of the complaints. Now it simply remains to be seen when this will be in game (fully.. not placeholder 1/2assed crap) and if they can do it without further breaking the game.
Best thing I saw: Allowing controlling guilds to set their own rules in their territories
Worst thing missing: Revamped (functional) siege system

Pretty nice. Should be interesting to see when this will be done testing and ready for implementation into the live game. I know this is one thing a lot of players have been looking forward to for a while.

Though I haven't seen any mention of an exact timeframe for the implementation of the updated territorial control system, Black Opal did give some idea of where it is in the process right now:

As I said previously, most of the mechanics tied in with this are currently being tested. The shell and "Hooks" for interaction between the website and the game are already in place, and we will be making more announcements about that soon.
We are very excited about the upcoming changes, and what they will allow the players to do.
You guys asked for tools? And here is the first taste

Further update clarifies that there are no current changes to the siege system, but that he will talk with Henrik, and maybe they will be part of the same update. So that kind of makes it sound like the update could be a bit longer than some would expect. I think it imperative that they release a full and complete system since the PROMISED an end to placeholder (1/2 implemented) systems.

For any changes to the siege mechanics, I will sit down with Henrik and talk where things are going to go. As you say there are frustrations with the system, so at some point in time it will get looked at. Whether actual changes to sieges will come with this update, I cannot yet say.
I will release more information in regards to this when there is something definitive.
Also guys, don't ask for specifics yet, a lot of it will get changed around and juggled as we see what will work and what won't. Consider this at a slightly more advanced stage in the development than the Horse Equipment Teaser that I showed to you guys a while ago.

Wish the people you fought in the game were different than you. Other than some select cosmetic differences, it's still another game where the developers felt no real need to separate race and culture - like in a real world environment. Shame, because even book authors get that variation is important.
It's too much to ask to get to fight people that are truly different from your own side - and well, it's so boring that way. It's 2011, we are capable of so much more than just getting a few subscriptions and providing a cheap product. Mythic created Dark Age of Camelot with about 30 people back in 2000 - released in 2001. They had three realms, evolved a really nice siege model, handful of races and about 30 totally different classes when they started.
Wish MO luck though. Who knows, maybe they will evolve to become fun one of these days.
