Wish the people you fought in the game were different than you. Other than some select cosmetic differences, it's still another game where the developers felt no real need to separate race and culture - like in a real world environment. Shame, because even book authors get that variation is important.
It's too much to ask to get to fight people that are truly different from your own side - and well, it's so boring that way. It's 2011, we are capable of so much more than just getting a few subscriptions and providing a cheap product. Mythic created Dark Age of Camelot with about 30 people back in 2000 - released in 2001. They had three realms, evolved a really nice siege model, handful of races and about 30 totally different classes when they started.
Wish MO luck though. Who knows, maybe they will evolve to become fun one of these days.
I've played and enjoyed both types of games, according to their design as either faction-based or freeform.
I will say that I've definitely come to prefer a game that does not permanently hard-code a faction choice right from the beginning of the game. The freedom to make the choice of affiliation/guild/clan during gameplay, as well as the ability to change those choices while progressing through the game, is a huge plus toward making an MMO seem more like a virtual world to me, and less like a game, if that makes sense. Politics seem a lot more dynamic and accessible in such a game.
I guess it all comes down to preference. Nothing wrong with that.
Paratus added a small bit of information regarding the planned utiltiy of the political miniature map located in each keep, as well as the website map:
look at the map, you can see the keep spots. some tower units..they the control points?
That map updates dynamically, so those towers and keeps you see on the map appear based on the real world data as it evolves. It's meant as a planning platform.
Something similar will be displayed on the website, with a little more data, just not as 3Dish.
I'm curious about the amazing speed at which these items seem to get posted. I have a hard time understanding how someone could like to play a game and yet spend what appears to be an awful lot of time just watching the official forums and then coming here and posting with any news about the game, usually within 10 minutes of it being posted on the official forums. Seems a bit odd that so many official/Dev posts get placed here so freakishly fast, then again, it could just be my suspicious nature.

It's normal for a dev to publish information about changes to forums. It's sort of a push news feed as a way to spread the word to people who don't visit game's own forum daily.

dont know were u got the idea mo would never have a map from? From my understanding since beta i always thought mo planned to have maps that players create themselves using flash. the new planned flash features will allow players to both write their own books and draw their own pictures ingame, want a map buy one from someone who drew an accurate one. This new map inside the keep is certainly impressive i see no reason why it would imply sv gonig agaisnt any sort of vision they had? just out of curiocity since you seem to have little knowledge on mo but have you palyed the game toferio?
there are 2 types of mmo, imitators and innovaters.
Deathshroud you of all people should know unless it is in the game working then why are we even hoping for it. One thing SV is very good at is making videos. One of the main reason I started playing the game is because of this right here.
And I have always said "when is this game getting released".
They could not even get taxing territory right hwo wil they get this multi layered content working?? I am not trolling I am going by track record.
I do not agree with them doing Territory control first. They should of done the sieging system first this is kind of putting the cart before the horse. The sieging system is horrible. And I think you need to siege before you get a territory right?
Also this just adds to the point it is a pvpcentric, death match game. This is not adding to anything the noncoms can do. Unless you are talking about making more armor and weapons to fight. AI, PVE and Exploring need much much love.
Everyone until it is in and working stop getting the fanboi hard ons. We all know SV and patching content.
So much for the whole "no in-game" map, it's not immersive enough, not ahrdcore enough, etc
There is a HUGE difference between having a map as part of your HUD and having a map in your guildhall showing political boundaries.
@comaf: Player determined alliances (and betrayal) puts power in the hands of the players. This favors emergent gameplay and "sandbox" gameplay. Racailly defined teams does not,

that video is pretty much exactly what mo is like, i mean the statue, hut town locales etc are all ingame even most of the emotes. the only things missing are the kneeling animation, the hair styles different trees different and the tindrem sewers arent ingame. I see no reason why that trailer is misleading or vastly opposite to what mo is currently its footage from jsut before beta its pretty accurate as to what mo has even today.
it is likely sieging changes will be added with the update, however black opal will raise the issues to the dev team and those will get included into the patch provided they arent to overly complex but i have plenty of ideas on how to improve it.
right now sv has to focus on content that effects the highest number of the user playerbase, that is pve and pvp. Adding osmething else like cooking would be a msitake at this stage. territory control is an esential sandbox feature without reasons to fight and form guilds the game becomes repetative pvp. With reasons it moves further away from a deathmatch.
i agree thoguh that the previous mo patch history (only 3 patches released that didnt bring high numbers of bugs or not working features) means soemthing like this will likely be heavily buggy for the first 3 weeks. Until they can get major funds like eve idd in its early days we wont see a public test server. MO imo released 2 years to early whilst eve released 6 months to early.

There I fixed that statement for you. Most of the sheep left a long time ago and now there is only wolves. Yes I agree with you most of the people are PVP centric people. This will only make the rest leave especially if a rpk guild can take meduli and turn the guards off.

First what 3 patches were these?? I am not talking about a fix patch or a fix for the fix patch or a fix for the fix for the fix patch I mean real content patches there are none that did not bring game breaking shit. You are still dealing with game breaking shit from release and Dawn. Only heavily bugged for 3 weeks?? Is that a joke?? Do I need to send you to the list that your guild member wrote?? Most of the things on it are waaaaaaaaaay more than 3 weeks old. I think MO was release very very early as well.
I nearly fell off my chair when I saw the ingame interactive map !
I really hope this comes out relatively soon.
After this they need to really tighten up any remaining bugs, make sure massive scale fights are viable and then and only then go and sell this game like never before.
I mean sell it on steam and even on TV.
Hell if the massive battles and bugs were fixed I would invest money, lots of money in this company as it is clearly the best of the "sandbox" game. However that is not saying much when your only competition is Darkfall, Xsyon and Earthrise !!
i think they really need to guarantee a fix for the failed issue and nodeline freezes prior to releasing this patch. Im expecting a q&a between the devs and community this week.
i do think steam would bring alot of income for sv, esentially sicne its screenshots are remenicent of an elderscrolls title however different the actual gamepaly mgiht be. But i beleive it will take laot more than territory control before they could start thinknig abotu a steam release, also tv is really out of the question lol. But they could start posting a proper dawn expansion video with the territory control system in palce to advertise the game on the major gaming sites. That would certainly help since the dawn traielr was unoffical and not a release trailer.
both eve and uo are sandbox games to thoguh dont forget, however eve is vastly different to mo, i know many people who refuse to play eve becasue of its scifi setting and those who play it becasue its a scifi spaceship game and wouldnt normally play mmos. UO is amazingly good but its way to outdated for the majority of the current mmo population. Trying to convince guildies to try it is like pulling teeth, they jsut cant see past the graphics.
there are 2 types of mmo, imitators and innovaters.
Sorry I should have said sandbox with FPS style combat.
Eve is great I suppose but it is not like flying a space craft in space, it is totally point and click and does not have an feeling of immersion that Mortal Online gives.
UO? Well yeah ... just try playing that game now. Not many can as it is just too old with utterly shit (now) graphics and terrible combat. It was great in its day though.

Best sandbox game??? Your opinion right? And get back on your chair until it is in the game working it is nice and fluffy to look at. I fell off my chair at the upcoming townlif AI video. How long ago was that released???
SV does not have money to advertise on game sites le alone steam or the TV.
You would invest money?? This post is starting to sound like an infomercial.
Does anyone think this will be fully implemented and have all the major gamebreaking bugs fixed anytime relatively soon? Are we talking 2 weeks? 4 weeks? 12 weeks? More?
Will it be launched as a complete system? Or will it be launched in phases.. kind of like fishing was phase one...
Will the siege system actually be fixed at the same time? Otherwise you are building a new system on a broken older system which will have to change.. thus impacting the new system again...
What happened to AI/UI/Magic which were clearly stated to be the focus of development? Will they thrown in a partial territory revamp... then go back to those items? Reminding me of which... what ever happened to the gene system which was so hyped in the Dawn info, but said to come right afterwards...
For once.. just once.. I hope they are realistic and honest and have a real chat where they give direct answers. Folks are tired of being over promised and under delivered. If they screw this up they will drive the last of the PvPers from the game. If it will take 6 months to get it right then they should openly and honestly state that.
For now, this is filed under the same category as the TownLife... the Dragon... Tindrem... etc etc. Nice sounding, but as of yet, undelivered.

If i had a few million dollars I would.
Buy MO
Hire some really good programners
Keep matt but fire a henrik
Make third person over the shoulder combat *yes this would piss people off but hell its my million dollar fantasy
Add some old EQ and AC style mobs and dungeons
Then just keep adding sandbox features as time went on
Looks like Massively has also picked up on this announcement about the territorial control system:
