If you think about it, Blizzard and Apple are quite similar in the way they value certain elements of the goods they produce. Steve Jobs was, admittedly, a highly successful business man, and while his company's products aren't absolutely cutting edge, the cheapest, or the most popular, they sell because they are slick, easy to use, and very functional, much like World of Warcraft. Oh, and, both have absolutely terrific marketing strategies.

I actually agree with this statement, suprisingly.
But you have to give credit where credit is due.
Before the iPod, MP3 players really were... well, garbage.
They came in at the right time and made a great, easy to use product and their competitors scrambled to catch up.
Before the iPhone, smart phones were called Blackberries and they were.... well, garbage.

Before the iPad, tablet PC's were very niche and were... well, garbage.
They came in at the right time and made a great, easy to use product and their competitors scrambled to catch up.
Now, however, the competition has caught up and is making much better products. I have a Sandisk MP3 player that blows any iPod out of the water. My android phone crushes any iphone. Some of the new Samsung tablets just crush the iPad.
TOR, GW2 are going to be the Android of the MMORPG market.
Better, just as easy to use and enjoy, without all the BS.
Are they really going to be truly "next generation" and completely different and unique? No of course not.
What is really funny is, I bet that the next iPod or iPhone or iPad of the MMORPG market is going to be Titan.
All I see is the same trend some of you would say about Blizzard! Another successful company to bitch and whine about.
How does it feel to be a grown up and a big baby?
I swear his recent news has brought out the worst in people on this site.
This is a gaming site. Versatility, modularity and upgrades are the lifeblood of this type of entertainment. Apple products are the antithesis of those concepts. In this sphere form means squat and getting the most bang from your box is the most important thing.
Also...for me personally: People die everyday in hideous ways and in bad situations who I will never know. Steve Jobs was just another man, like countless before him. I understand he was a successfull business person but I see no reason for veneration.
Sorry, i was completely blindside by your fancy words!
Every business will never be on the same level, some maybe models for anothers. Do you have to agree on how they choose to run their business? No. But millions of other poeple are still buying their products and are enjoying it.
Did I say anything about honor him or respecting him? Alright so you don't know him nor do I. Seeing he is a starnger to both of us, there is this called common courtesy "how to treat strangers considerately."
Sounds like you would ignore someone in need of help or rather then helping you'd pull out your iPhone record everything then post on Youtube.
to the red: how is it common courtesy to lie about what you think of someone and what he has done ?
and as for the very last sentance that is a personaly attack against him that has no supporting evidence. if i cried about everything and everyone (and felt sadness for them) that died every day i would be parylized and in the fetal position crying forever. he never said he would ignore someone dieing right in front of him as your comment seems to suggest. nor does his post show any signs of heartlessness that i can see.
as for the rest of Leethe's statement i agree.
p.s. the Antithesis of something is essentialy its opposite.
Ummm... The Antithesis IS the opposite... I guess you didn't pay attention in English, eh?
I think what he is trying to say is to have respect for the dead. No matter what your opinions of him were, you still have respect for someone who is older than you, and obviously had more creativity than you -- I don't see that you are the CEO of a billion dollar company.
We may not agree on what Apple is about or how they handled business, but I think we can all agree that he obviously did something right. No one is making you go out and buy Apple products, so all I ask is that you guys have just an inkling of respect for this man. He was, of course, a human being.
Simplifying designs to their core and cutting the bullshit which interfere's with a product's purpose...isn't Blizzard already the Steve Jobs of MMORPGs?
Cause WoW doesn't have a lot of bullshit.
WOW has bullshit and things which aren't 100% polished. That's not the point.
The point is they have lessbullshit and more polish than the rest of the industry. That's the reason they did so well (and later capitalized on doing so well by advertising and creating more content than most other games.)
Nobody's perfect (Apple definitely isn't,) but customers only care about the least imperfect products.

I highlighted the part of your post I disagree with. The reason WoW did well is really two fold.
1) The players they had from warcraft 1 and 2
2) They made the game simple to play. Maybe not simple to excel at when it was first released, but it was simple to play.

Until I find an MMORPG that actually plays smoother than WOW, you're going to be hard-pressed to convince me that gameplay and polish weren't the two biggest reasons WOW did well. The factors you cite were important, but if the game didn't play better than everything else out there (and sadly it still does) then it wouldn't have been all that popular.

yes but i also know that what i said of antithesis isnt a complete and total exact explanation and i didnt feel like going to a dictionary website. i could have said much more on the semantics and such of the word but out of laziness i chose not to which is why i said it is "essentialy its opposite" because i was summing up the basic idea.
now back on topic, nothing disrespectfull was said or done so your response is sort of pointless. it all realy depends on your point of view on what is being respectfull. in my view lieing about what you think about someone is just about the epitomy of disrespect.
yes the man was an amazing business man who changed public perception about a lot of things and made huge amounts of money (ie he didnt do much of anything that matters to me), he also approved a lot of screwed up stuff too. honestly i just see another person who did some good things and some bad things only on a huge scale and honestly the scale of something doesnt really impress me.
im just being realistic i refuse to build someone up past what they were.
p.s. ever read speaker for the dead by orson scott card? (that is a good idea of the way i believe the dead should be treated, i thought about mentioning my actualy religion here too but i cant think of why that would matter or how to word it for what im saying)
I thought it was clear but what the OP meant to say at first wasnt about an MMO made by Apple or Steve Jobs, but more an iconic face, a leader, a charismatic leader that would help the community get around.
Steve Jobs wasnt a genius or a god, but like a journalist once said when he died : " What Steve Jobs did was save technologie from itself." in other word, in 1984 when you bought a computer, you were a geek programming stuff, he came with the idea of making computer easy and avalaible to be used by anyone and everyone. Steve Jobs also believed deeply about his products and had a sens for affairs.
I would not say no to a guy like that in the MMO world, someone (NOT Steve Jobs NOR apple) to get the MMORPG standards higher!
But ya, I think Blizz really did do that already, Which is why I respect WoW a lot. But I don't agree with every move they make, they don't half ass it. My Iphone is the best phone I have ever owned btw.
Steve Jobs was just a guy that could get millions of idiots to buy overpriced shit. Millions of idiots already play shitty MMOs. So MMOs don't really need a Steve Jobs. It needs people that can make good MMOs.

That price is worth it, maybe not for PCs. But I've tried Blackberry, I've tried Android, always a pain in the ass. But iOS just freakin works and is worth every penny(which btw really isnt any more expensive).
