You know, technically this opens a hole in their TOS where anyone who has agreed to this TOS that gets banned from Mortal, could pursue a refund considering that the clause only pertains to the Eve client, servers, and web-site.

SV doesnt really "ban" people anyhow. Even when the community is outrages and demanding a ban - The "banned" individual is contacted by GM's and just asked to start a new toon under a diffrent name- Even Gold is given as incentive (see the post about a guy named "Russian" who was "banned" and filmed the GM's hooking him up with Gold for agreeing to change his name)

Even this latest duping incident which brought the servers down SUPPOSIDLY resulted in 11 bans (but since we have no names or info to go on we must "trust" SV)-

Plus a TOS, EULA isnt a "legal" doc anyhow and gives the company writing it the clause allowing them to break/change it at any time and for any reason.

-But again, to reiterate- This is just about carelessness and making stupid mistakes that an elementry school kid wouldnt make from a supposidly "pro" game development studio that sells stock and charges the highest price (monthly) of any MMO I am aware of. A company which continues to make stupid mistakes and show no real regard for its customer base- And then trys to cover it up through censorship and pretending everything is peachy.

I guess the above can settle the discussion whenever this should be called plagiarism or not, now its official :P

SV really changed it now. Good one, it's like it never happened. The perfect crime.

Yup- over 24 hours ago this was being brought up and censored on the Official Forum- They didnt even take the two seconds to re edit and fix the TOS but took the time to remove posts .

Now that its "public" they are "right on it".

Good to see its the same ol SV.

The author of that piece is just one person. His or her use of the word doesn't make it an accurate word to use. Notice how almost no one is calling it plagiarism in this thread since about the 50th post.

Its freaking plagiarism dude, give it up.

If its plagiarism for a high school student to copy/paste from a website and put their name on it- So is this.

Nobody is talking about legal ramifications. Get over it, It is what it is.

If plagiarism is "copying" then yeah. If you want to use an actual definition of plagiarism, then show how. I've already said the legal ramifications have nothing to do with anything I'm saying. Also, this is nothing like a high school student copying a random document. This is contract text, which as I've explained multiple times under the definition of plagiarism, is completely different. If you want me to give it up, then just take the definition and show how it's plagiarism, and not just copying.

Its really sad. Poor guys. Seems they just can't do anything right...

  • StravasStravas Member Posts: 32

Zzzzzzzz . . . this is a ridiculous non-issue not worthy of discussion . . . the reality is most companies look at examples of legal language used by other similiar companies and adapt it for their purposes . . . the only thing remotely worth any note here is the sloppiness of the editing job.

    Move on.

I am not going to argue semantics with you.

My definition: Copying something some else wrote and attaching your name. Not to include "ghost writing", lol.

    There- I win. =)

You are arguing about mere semantics of which the definition has been given. Personally I dont care what you call it - Its amature, unprofessional, careless and inexcusable. It (like this game) is a joke. The fact they tried to censor this and now its all over MMO news sites is just the icing on the cake and very funny- Couldnt have happened to a better company.

So nobody wants to argue definitions and play internet lawyer. I am a damn Electrician/HVAC tech. I am not a lawyer and dont give a shit about arguing legal terms.

This is all for the Lulz, courtesy of SV.

  • TalonsinTalonsin Member EpicPosts: 3,619

You guys can argue all you want about semantics and such but the bottom line is…  Why would anyone continue to support a company that can not even proof read a license agreement they knowingly took from another company?  If they (SV) can not even proof read a text document, how are they any good at coding and bug finding?

I won't argue semantics either as I said I wouldn't argue over the definitions of words either. I've said multiple times it just depends on how you define it, and that if plagiarism is simply copying, then of course this is plagiarism. We both know there is more to the word than that though, and whether the real definition of plagiarism applies isn't semantics, but just simple application of a definition to a situation. The word as defined by the dictionaries above doesn't apply here though which is why no one is trying to argue that it does.

In short, this is perfectly normal copying and nothing more, but everyone here wants to use the harsher word "plagiarism" because it makes SV sound like they did worse here than they really did and it's much easier to jump on the hateraid bandwagon than to back down.

I guess what people find interesting is relative.

To me its "interesting" that sites like Massivly didnt find it "interesting" enough to write an article about the kings birthday tournament thingy which attracted a whole 36 people-

    I found this interesting.

Also Interesting that yesterday they were deleting posts like crazy when COPYGATE was mentioned- Today (now that at least 2 gaming sites have written articles about this) discussion is allowed.

    Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Interesting...

Actually I do not think it is resolved at all.   I do not know why when SV does something wrong and stupid they do not get at the front of said mistake and own it.  Tell everyone yes we fucked up it was us we fixed it now lets move on to the next broken mistep/

Of coarse- Its "fixed", working as intended- Nothing to see here... TC coming soon...Gunna be good...No bugs...Tested...

It would have been so easy for them to just say this and "fix" this when it was first brought up... But (typical SV style) thy spent more time deleting posts on the forum which mentioned this in hopes it would just "go away"

    Falied company= Failed game= Failed

-Wake up fanboys. The hype, promises and lies are exposed more every day- The amature, careless and just plain STUPID mistakes are also coming to light each day.

How long has this game been out now? When will it be "release ready" and "out of Beta"- Keep beliving SV. A company you can "believe in"

Trust them- THIS TIME they will get it right.

So let me get this straight because I was following that thread as well.  Are you trying to say it was only princereaper talking about the TOS/EULA mistake??  and they eleted his posts because he is a ban evader  Because if you are saying that it is a lie.  Other people mentioned it as well and they deleted it.  I even said something about it and all it was was.  Did SV really not delete CCP and enter MO??  And it lasted 10 seconds.

Right on- Not to mention Chewy was the one who brought it up and was totally constructive and was deleted.

I watched PERSONALLY as at least 10 posts disapeared from one thread, and one whole thread disapeared merly asking for some clarification.

Dude... You are either lying or dont have a clue. I watched this all go down with baited breath and even logged in and followed this once I got home.

I think we can all agree that we have learned what plagiarism means very well. There is a daily use of it, there is a vocabulary meaning and then there is Jimmac, who uses his own vocabulary and defends it very well. Yes sir. Probably he is high or secret alt of Henrik, but who cares?

Seriously.. If i read plagiarism one more time, i will puke.

Stages of a new mmo: 1) It's just beta. It still has plenty of time before release. 2) It just launched. Give it time. WoW wasn't built in a day. 3) We don't need you anyway. 4) F2P announced. 5)Huge influx of players. 6) Look how much has changed. 7) Cash shop is the only thing developed lately. 8) It has been a long journey and we thank everyone who was part of it. Shutting down in 3 months. (Courtesy of Robokapp.)
