Completed main story line in 8 hours. Cities are still zoned though. Still got anouthe 100 hours of sidequestiongn to do though so the fun is far from over.
That's the experience many will have the main scripted quest is a bit on the brief side, but can do the side stuff and get a couple of weeks of enjoyment out of it.
Personally I'm probably not going to finish it anyway. If there's one thing I HATE in TES games it's being the friggin' CHOSEN ONE. It's so cliché it feels awkward. I just want to sandbox as a citizen of the world and love the faction questlines generally. Played Oblivion for hundreds of hours but never finished the main storyline either.
I hope one day, they'll release a game with a main quest ending very abruptly with the wizened wizzard and the counsel proclaiming that "We are really sorry about this, [insert playername], but you are not worthy to decide the fate of the world (You pick-pocketing piece of murdering scum!)" and they'll pick npc Pete instead.
I love being the chosen one.
Not only do I love being the chosen one but I backstory myself so that I'm "so chosen" it's disgusting.
Depending on the race I play, I can be a fallen "Angel", a daedra who was sent to disrupt Mehrunes Dagon, the son/daughter of a union between a mortal and a god/goddess or just the fantasy embodiement of Clint Eastwood.
So yeah, chosen one? no problem bring it on!
Just got home and the disk is in my hand. Bought two candles for a northern woods effect, have a big sandwich and a large coffee.

Oblivion literally did not have a single memorable character. Not one character in the entire game I felt had an actual personality.
And frankly, that made one heck of a boring dead world.
So how's it this time around? Any characters you actually grow to care about a little bit? Maybe some characters to hate? Hell, I'd settle for interesting characters like we had in Morrowind.

A great game and graphicly pleasing, but not without its faults. its got a couple of glitches, possibly the most annoying is when talking to an npc I have turn my character away from the npc to hear what they are saying, anyone else with this issue. other issue are just graphic errors, ie. chunks of rivers missing.
The only thing I ran into was a pack of wolves that fell through the world when I killed them, nothing that big though. You may want to reinstall.
This is my only issue. I died once because I thought the dude I was fighting was dead. Considering how he was a twisted mass on the ground, presuming him dead wasn't a stretch. And while sitting, my sword went through the chair. Carpenters must get a lot of work in Skyrim. There are definitely some graphical errors that disappoint me. Please Bethesda, get a new engine. You cannot stretch the one you have any more.
They recoded the entire engine for this game, so it may be similar to the old one, but its not the same.

My room mate was having this issue, his only guess was his Processor sucks. Doesn't seem to be a common issue....
Suffered my first death. It was a doozy. I was chasing an npc I had just rescued and then he ran away calling me a fool, so I chase him. Fight some undead with my Flamethrower Hands of Doom, and with the adrenalin still pumping through me after fighting off 3 undead, I failed to notice the giant gate of spikes that promptly slammed into me as I hit a hidden floor switch in my rush to chase the betrayer. Best moment of the game for me so far. Completely caught me by surprise. I love it. The immersion in this game, for me at least, is phenomenal. The sound effects and music alone are top notch.
Combat is a bit clunky but I can live with it. This is an area a hotbar UI from any of our favorite MMORPGs would be perfect for. Sadly, it seems to be built around console players. Shame, the PC version should have at least been given a different UI.
Haven't crashed yet or had any bugs. Mouse cursor is laggy but I rarely notice it now. Graphics look great on my Radeon HD 5770.
In-laws are here this weekend so my playtime is limited. /sigh

It is a new engine deveoped for Skyrim.. its called Creation Engine..
Oblivion used the Gamebryo Engine
Its not technically a new Engine, since its based on Gamebryo Engine (heavily modified that they decided to call it something else)

I have just played 6 hrs solid and had 2 crashes (Freezing up), both happened inside a house, 1st crash I had just entered the house, the second crash I had just turned around from talking to an npc inside house. Fighting, action, both npc and enviromental movements and sounds the game runs with no problems. I'm sure glad it auto saves on entering buildings.
It is written on the packaging that the game requires a free steam account to activate. If you dont agree with, then you had the option to return the game to the retailer for a refund, which is also stated on the packaging. Blame the people who keep copying and running illegal copies that companies have taken this route.

Died three times all ready! Having lots of fun though. Only a couple of complaints like for the fact that they did a straight port from a platform to a PC game. They atleast could have done a better job with the UI for the PC. Right now I'd give the game a 7.5 out of 10.
Oh, and what is with the elk in this game trying to climb trees? LOL!
Made it out of the first dungeon at a leisure pace.
I'm more than impressed with how alive the world feels. Also amazing detail to just about everything.
Especially animations and environmental effects are much better than what I was used to in Oblivion. Water, heat shimmering, lighting, all look awesome.
Jumping for instance feels and looks great; in Oblivion you launched upwards at a fixed velocity and floated down in the exact same posture and also at a steady velocity; this looked and felt very awkward. This time around you really feel your weight as you are proppelled upwards in a realistic way and raise your arms higher when going down again. Feels very natural.
UI takes some getting used to but by using your keyboard as much as possible it's ok.
Gave it a go for an hour (All the time I have right now). So far very impressed. The first thing I had to fix was the damn slow mouse response but a quick trip to the options/gameplay menu sorted that out. I had forgot I had to do the same thing in Oblivion as the game comes preset for a controller. Luckily there is a slider to make the mouse more responsive. The first hour was a blast... mostly exploring the first town and talking to the residents. I'll play some more later for sure!
Ok back but this will probably be the last time to the forums for a while. At least for today.
I love how immersive the world is. The sounds are incredible. That includes music, using weapons, cutting through webs, etc.
I've had 2 crashes but have learned to F5 save often and so far nothing else. I really don't understand why some people dont' like the graphics. But to each his own I suppose. There is a sort fo dreaminess to the whole thing. Night looks great.
I don't like the UI though it's not as bad as Final Fantasy. Stil, it takes some time to get used to.
magic looks great though I haven't yet figured out how to quickly go from two handed weapon to using a spell. There is a favorites button but I have yet to use it.
I LOVE the art design. Weapons and armor look incredible. I love how you can make your body beefy or lean. Faces are "ok", some better than others and some customization choices are more "slight" than others.
I feel very lost in the world which at this point is good. It seems very immense though time will tell. I love how you interact with the npc's.
came across my first puzzle which was fun. Simple but fun to at least have a puzzle to do.
The atmosphere is incredible.
I agree with others that the fighting seems a little "fluffy" in that there doesn't seem to be a sense of connecting to your target though the animations and sounds are great.
A few weird issues such as my first giant spider seemed to float down from above and not in any natural way. you can catch fish but I didn't see an animation for it so that was minor but dissapointing.
At the moment the UI is the only real dissapointment but it's workable. Voice acting is good, some decent characterization.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
Bloody typical. For the first time in a couple of years a game comes out that i just can't put down and what just popped into my inbox half an hour ago? A bloody SW:TOR weekend invite
