I love how immersive the world is. The sounds are incredible. That includes music, using weapons, cutting through webs, etc.

I've had 2 crashes but have learned to F5 save often and so far nothing else. I really don't understand why some people dont' like the graphics. But to each his own I suppose. There is a sort fo dreaminess to the whole thing. Night looks great.

I don't like the UI though it's not as bad as Final Fantasy. Stil, it takes some time to get used to.

magic looks great though I haven't yet figured out how to quickly go from two handed weapon to using a spell. There is a favorites button but I have yet to use it.

I LOVE the art design. Weapons and armor look incredible. I love how you can make your body beefy or lean. Faces are "ok", some better than others and some customization choices are more "slight" than others.

I feel very lost in the world which at this point is good. It seems very immense though time will tell. I love how you interact with the npc's.

came across my first puzzle which was fun. Simple but fun to at least have a puzzle to do.

    The atmosphere is incredible.

I agree with others that the fighting seems a little "fluffy" in that there doesn't seem to be a sense of connecting to your target though the animations and sounds are great.

A few weird issues such as my first giant spider seemed to float down from above and not in any natural way. you can catch fish but I didn't see an animation for it so that was minor but dissapointing.

At the moment the UI is the only real dissapointment but it's workable. Voice acting is good, some decent characterization.

I agree on UI way to much symplified for my taste, i dont like the map at all, its also not so complex as Oblivion, but world seems huge. Graphics looks fine to me. I came across the giants but they kick my ass hehe.

Ooh, giants! Where?  I just finished the first major quest/dungeon, got my first word of power, whatever they do, lol and am now getting ready to head to the Magic University.  I think I'll walk there and see what I find on the way. ;D

Something MMORPG devs should consider, this game "gets it" when it comes to creating a "world".  It would behoove the industry to take notes and add more of this to their games.  Personally, I have come to realize it is this factor that is missing from current MMOs.

Who put the kickass! in RPG? Skyrim does ;)

Fantastic game, divorce your wife, leave your kids alone, close the door and go into issolation, the only thing you should be doing now after reading this is buying Skyrim and playing Skyrim. Do it now!

Soon as I get home for the weekend from work here, that is what I am doing, well ok, not the divorce part, but screw everything else. Case of MD , smokes, chips, tv on the side and skyrim, ya, does my body good ! not, but you only live once, rock on!

Slightly disappointed with main quest line, so far. Don't want to spoil anything here, so I'll avoid any actual information, but... Barely made it out of the training dungeon, and already I feel as if I'm pulled by my ears. Doesn't feel right. It's like...

I mean, I haven't actually spent any of my skillpoints yet, just wanted to start doing some alchemy, made my first dagger... And suddenly I'm a hero! "You have a mission of utmost importance! Go there and hide behind the tower while NPCs kick it out between themselves! Blam. blam... Ohhh! We wouldn't be able to do it without you! (without all 3 ****ing arrows you've loosed in the general direction of the fight.) Here, get the best armor and the axe we can think of, and a noble title, and whole freakin city is singing 'ain't you a jolly good fellow!' when anyone sees you, and the voice from the Sky demanded you to IMMEDIATELY run to the end of the world IMMEDIATELY, you don't leave the voice wait!"

Pardon me? I'm barely out of the tutorial dungeon, you know. I wanted kind of make steel armor and weapons for myself before being given all that s***. Rats give me hard time yet, I don't feel like I'm a hero, I certainly don't think I've done anything yet to be proclaimed a hero, well, except heroically hiding from AOE damage in that battle, where NPCs were covering the ground with their bodies and then came to me, forgetting fallen comrades, and started shouting how hardcore I am, hiding here in the hole!

I don't want to go to the end of the world, since, considering local monster autoscaling would likely mean that on that end those same rats will meet me! I was thinking about going to magic colledge, you know, learning some BASIC stuff about spells! WTF?!!!

Severely thrown out of game world by that main quest. If I knew, I wouldn't even start it until I've learned some freaking magic. And you are basicly pulled by your hair in it - there is no moment where you can choose to continue it, it's all "run run run! Hurry! Hurry up, hurry up, now run here!"

    Don't like it.

ok I'm back because pizza is on it's way...

So I've learned something today: I can't kill giants. Yet.

I found the giants quite by accident, making my way through the pass I found some imperial soldiers escorting a prisoner. Being against "the man" I decided to free him but he go slaughtered anyway and I took down the guards. Then I saw a puzzle "thing" so took some time solving that (just realized how after a bit) and then saw the smoke in the distance. After seeing the tree with the glowy bits I turned around and lo and behold there was a mammoth and it's hander, the giant.

Now, my roommate said "go up to him" but I, knowing what happens when you just go up to things, saved the game. Then I went up to the giant to talk and "wham" game over.

I then decided to go into the cave by him and there was another giant. Well, not all the giants could be the same strength and besides, maybe if I rushed him with my two handed sword ferocity he would crumple like a card house.

    Wham, game over.

So no giants for a while. I kind of like crafting in the game which is a surprise.

I didn't like the main story line of Oblivion either. Though I would've expected that they improved on that. I shall see, I'm no hero, yet, being merely level 5. Did quite some exploring already, though. It's quite fun. As long as the side story lines are as entertaining as in Oblivion (e.g. Dark Brotherhood) I'm fine with the main story sucking.

lol i know what part your talking about and you are not a hero, (well maybe in your own mind that's the way they see you) but if you actually listen to the conversations, bah. .. not even going to waste the time, when you assume you make... yea, we are done here.

I would agree that in Morrowind the main quest took breathers while you levelled up but if you start again and just ignore the main quest you should be golden.

Sounds like I'll like it overall from what I've read. The complaints seem to be mostly "preference" gripes ("I don't like blue, I wanted red" type of stuff).

Since that varies from person to person, I'll be getting it but I'll wait until the price drops at least $20. I have plenty of other things like Arkham City to finish yet, so I'll play this next year.

Sounds like a winner to me!

It's not that the main story suck. It's just that it feels forced upon you. Well, I feel it forced upon me, at least. Like a big brute of a man forced on not unwilling, but certainly unready and unprepared girl. I was kind of expecting flowers and a bit of romance, not hardcore threesome, so to say... :)

Others may actually prefer such pacing. I would, however, liked to develop a character a bit before starting galloping. :)

P.S. I've read "you shouldn't have started"... Well, I didn't know I'm starting it at the earnest! It was masterfully hidden in the quest log between "kill the rat" and "bring me a silver spoon". Which, accidentally, I already had with me, having liberated it from some cave earlier.

If I had some warning, I wouldn't touch that quest yet!

Yeah, man. Let it wait or just screw the main quest. I always abandoned it in Oblivion too. Being the "chosen one" really doesn't appeal to me either, Grahor.

Of course I woul let it wait NOW. But there was no warning that it's going to pull me by my hair with such force. As I've wrote earlier, it was masterfully hidden between very first "fedex" and "bring me a silver spoon" quests. :)

This I agree with , thou I didn't feel so heroic at this point as you say it did for you, guess that comes down to preceptions. For me, it is peaent praising a knight type thing. Not peasent praising a god feel ;) A knight is a big deal to peasents and a lord would be more, but god! that's the shiznits hehe

Not sure what to tell you. They said "go to whithall" or whatever it was and I said "sure, I'll get there". Still not there.

Oh, and if people are having problems with crashing apparently it's a sound thing. I found something that indicated one should go to control panel - go to manage audio devices - right click on your audio device - go to properties - go to advanced and set your sound to 24 bit 44100 hz studio quality. I also saw one that said 16 bit so not sure which to believe but i set my to the 24 bit and I haven't had any crashes.

I haven't even gotten to play the game yet and I am pissed off.

This game required Steam for PC users?  Are you f-in kidding me?  I don't purchase a hard copy of a game to require some super crappy 3rd party program to run it.

Normal install of a game for my computer?  5 minutes max.  Installing it through steam? 20 minutes.

Oh and when I click to play a game on steam and it says "this game is currently unavailable"...excuse me?  You mean the game I paid money for and have the actual disk for I cannot play, because your crappy 3rd party software won't let me?

Do they have a reason why "this game is currently unavailable" No.  Why is it unavailable?  Probably because steam screwed something up, because it sure as hell worked last night when I played it.

I f-in hate Steam with such a passion that I am ready to just resell this game before I even play it.  I had to deal with this crap for Civilization 5, and Shogun 2.

I don't give a rats ass if "it is a social networking tool", I have facebook for crap like that.  I want to play my games when I want to play them, not when steam decides that it is OK for me to play them.

I want to patch the game if I WANT to, not because steam forces me to.  If I want to sit down and play a game I should be able to, not forced to wait an hour to download some patch I could care less about.

Give Me Back Control of My Single Player Games.  If I wanted to have my games controlled I would play an MMO, not a single player game that I went out and physically waited in line to purchase my own hard copy of.

Ugh, this crap pisses me off so much.

I've got a few minor beefs with it, now that I've got more time with it.

    1. Why follow so many conventions from FO3, but change the hotkeys for everything. Tab to close menus, R instead of A to loot all, etc. Makes no sense, but I have yet to check if these hotkeys can be changed or not.

    2. No blocking with dual-wielding? The hell? The parry rate *should* be through the roof. IMO, they should have disabled power attacks instead of blocking when carrying 2 one-handed weps.

As far as I know, you only register it through Steam.  You don't download it from there.  Not sure if Steam will auto-patch it for you but you can turn off automatic updating on a game by game basis.  It's pretty much like any other DVD installed game after that.  Maybe someone who's in the same boat can confirm that.  I don't buy hardcopies anymore so that's just what I understand from what I've heard.

You pretty much covered it. One thing i'd add is that once installed you can set Steam to Offline mode if you don't use it for anything else meaning that even if you have a net outage you can still play.

I'm used to all this nonsense but it still is annoying being forced into online apps for offline games. A forced redirect to the publishers site to input your CD key to activate should really be enough.

The fact that I can't click on a menu uption but have to use the arrow keys and enter sucks. . or mousewheel. . UI is aweful  some things were simplified in a good way. . some on a bad way.  I cant stand the UI. . did i mention that?

I do have a 360 which I mostly bought for Red Dead Redemption.  I have gotten used to the controller etc. but how hard is it to program a mouse click to select a menu item.

Maybe they should have never given the 11/11/11 date. . no going back from that one.  Expect a lot of updates.

Edit:  Oh yeah. . I thought I would love the map from the sounds of it but it is aweful as well.  Still going to play it of course.

I'm surprised no one realises that the story seems to be ripped from Divinity II.

You have dragon blood in you and can obsorb dragons and need to kill some...............uhm......that is Divinity II.

  • skeaserskeaser Member RarePosts: 4,212

It's a lot like Oblivion but better. I enjoy the combat more, it's a little faster paced, dual wielding is epic and adding crafting is awesome. The shouts are a nice extra, the skill stones are also a good touch. Only complaint is the default difficulty seems a bit steep. I've had a lot of quick deaths in 2 or 3 shots. Snow trolls are evil.

Sig so that badges don't eat my posts.

That's not divinity II, it's in countless books and even some movies over the past few decades. That plot line opened it's legs long ago.

I'm really enjoying the game. I've played 8 hours already and have gotten imersed in the game world. I'm taking my time, finding everything to be found along the way, doing side quests. I can see that the game will keep me busy for some time. I like the world graphics, it's vey nice that things look so great at a distance, vs. the wonky distance textures in Oblivion. Dungeons look spectacular, anything underground, really. A lot to like about the game.

On the downside: The UI, on the PC, is horrible. Even worse than the notoriously bad FFXIV interface. The Character Creation is a huge disappointment. I realize you don't spend much time looking at your character's face, but it's really bad. I actually spent an hour before I was able to get a half way decent looking character and, as far as I'm concerned, all the non-Human choices are so poorly done as to be unplayable by anyone who cares how their character looks. The CC process is also gretly hampered by the horrible UI. They obviously never bothered to have usability testers test the UI for the game and must have turned a deaf ear to complaints from beta testers.

The Armor models so far are also very blah. Hopefully there will be a healthy mod cummunity to help deal with that issue.

So far, it looks to be a game I will more than get my money's worth from, but the experience is marred by the horrible GUI and the pathetic character creation. Sort of unreal that they can produce a game with hundreds of hours of game play, but during the time it took to develop all that, couldn't come up with a solid UI and character options that didn't render 95% of all options completely fugly.

okay I hate the UI but here is what I love:

    mining / crafting is nice

    magic is fantastic

hint:  Don't let your self be lead around by the nose . . the game will do this.

ie there is some beginner intro stuff right off of the main path at the start. . after tutorial.
