Yeah, maybe I should have checked up OPs post history... But the long term question is still valid, will this game be one of those that are fun for years or will it be a month like WAR?
Do you really think you're going to want to raid the Eternity Vault for the 100th time or play your 500th game of Huttball a year from now? I doubt it. I was tired of Warzones after just 1 beta weekend.

LFD tools are great for cramming people into content, but quality > quantity. I am, usually on the sandbox .. more "hardcore" side of things, but I also do just want to have fun. So lighten up already
I have to admit that this is the first player review that got me worried.
The long term play is the real problem with games like this, nothing else. If the story gets boring after a few weeks then this wont be a game for me at least, I have the same worry about any new MMO, many are fun in the beginning buts gets boring after a months play.
Now, I am not OP so hopefully will I feel different about the game a month after release but there is the chance that it will be the same for me and many other players. KOTOR werent really meant to be played for years so the question is if TOR can hook people long term or not.
All whining about graphics, grindy quests and similar doesn't worry me one bit...
And the post below, I think MMO.Maverick has already answered the question which his first post.

It is rather hard except unless some people here have gotten that much closed beta play time (if you have, please enlighten us).
I have been playing this beta for 5 or 6 months, and I am just as excited for launch now as I was when I started. I have seen a lot of the stories and played every class at least a little bit.
I think this game will be fun for years, at least for me.
One thing to notice is that Bioware has been developing stuff at a very very rapid pace. They are going to be able to pump out content like Trion does after launch, I believe.
I have to admit that this is the first player review that got me worried.

Not only have I been playing for months, (and looking forward to years) but I've also had to re-roll and play through the same content over and over again due to character wipes.....still not sick of it.
I don't know what the OP is on about, honestly. The story content is engaging, and very well written....even for many of the side quests.
SWTOR is like a good book that you can't put down. And it's only going to get better as they add even more content to it.
I have to admit that this is the first player review that got me worried.

Whether the game is fun for a few months or years, that is a valid question indeed. However what is fun to some may not be to others. Just like how some people find themepark games fun, and sandbox boring, and vice versa. I'd say grab a free beta key and try it out for yourself, not sure if it's too late?
I got a beta invite a few months back. Sadly my place was broken into and my computer was stolen, which I have not replaced. I downloaded the game on a company laptop which is filled with junk and ran the game at like 10fps. I got to level 2 and decided not to play anymore with such a environment. Going to build a new computer and try again at release. Sorry can't give you any info about the game.

So let me guess i test a game and i share my impressions with you i should just leave majority of features out and only talk about one that i disliked the most? what is even the point of sharing your reviews or an impression if you are going to do that? especially when you have made it clear days after days that SWTOR is not for you and still you go test the beta anyways.
The problem here is not that review is negative but that it touches on a very small portion of game and gives the impression that it is all that SWTOR offers.
It is like going to EVE ONLINE and later come back saying that 'EVE is so boring all i did was mine rocks for days' well there is lot more to EVE than just mining rocks.
But please keep over reacting. I don't know how seriously you will take my impressions if i say 'hey i just didn't have time to do anything else except mining in EVE so in my opinion EVE sucks because that is all i did'.

If he doesn't like crafting, PVP, and questing (by his own admittance) then what WOULD he like in an MMORPG??
Sounds like he might be better off playing another kind of game without these things.
I never expected everyong to like tor. I lvoed my play time in tor i played 4 classes for a bit and got a feel for the stories and i ws intrigued by all of them the smuggler and inquistor the most of 4 i tried. That said tor isnt gonna have the same raids and warzones only after a yr.
They are gonna add content to this game. I fully expect more warzones to be addec but the read pvp fun in this game wont happen in warzones but in the open world in pvp lakes on worlds like tatoooine withs its ffa pvp zone. Illum with its objective based persistant world pvp.
Oh and in wow people are doing warsong and arathi 7 yrs later and having fun. just saying.
of course now someone will look through my posts are realize I would love to play an AAA sandbox game .. and completely ignore the fact that maybe .. just because I like the ideas of sandbox games .. doesn't mean I can't also enjoy a good themepark .. assuming it offers something beyond a linear story where I am being told what to do for 50 levels.
All of that said, it's going to be a great game .. I just have a sneaking suspicion I wont be playing it past February.
If you'd have repeatedly stated time and time again over the period of months how you despise themepark MMO's and how you always find them boring and they're no fun to you at all, and if you'd have scorned and trashtalked SWTOR for the better part of a year or maybe even 2 because it is a themepark MMORPG, I'd certainly regard your impressions or statements about the game differently, true. Would you really find it that odd if I did if your posting would have been like that for more than a year?
As for longevity of a game, that's always hard to tell. I usually look at the past how MMORPG's did, and from what I see is that a bugged launch with lack of polish or halfbaked features is a killer in most cases (AoC, VG etc) and the amount of content, as in how long can the available content keep people entertained: WoW and LotrO scored very well in content abundance and its entertainment value for a longer period of time. Rift might have been polished which made it conquer the first hurdle but in content abundance it lags behind a LotrO and WoW (eg it's a far, far smaller world, leveling goes very fast). Personally I feel SWTOR falls into the same category of content abundance as WoW and LotrO and very likely even more than LotrO (LotrO has hardly any PvP to speak of), but only time can tell whether that's enough.
Some people who have been in beta for months seem to think so, but in the end we'll have to see if that applies to the majority of MMO gamers.
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
You do know that jedis can use vibroblades even after unlocking LS rite (and there are some powerful ones afterwards)? Guess you didn't really play in depth enough to find that out
Also, there are classes that uses guns you know, lol
And yes I am just ripping on your post title because you haven't seem to use the opportunity of beta to test the game properly.

By that stretch .. you should remove 1/2 the reviews on your big collection of reviews post as most of them don't cover 100% of the content types in TOR.

Maybe not 100% but how about 60 or 70%? didn(t even get that close. Just read first two pages and you will see how much was left out. I bet people would laugh their ass off if i bash EVE only on basis of my mining experince.
Well, seems i was correct... Awesome experience to go through. SW:TOR would do much better if it went B2P... which is not necesarily a bad thing. I'd say that the vast majority of the "best games ever made" were in that category so I'm not dissing it by any means. It's just that Bioware has neither the experience nor sensibility for a continuous "world" thing. If they called it KOTOR3 (now with co-op and arenas!) and continued with the same financial model they would probably do better since the vast majority of players will f***k off after the first month or two of play.
Going for the wow-style subscription model and "we all love WoW!!" schtick might hurt them in the end but not by much TBH since they already admitted they're not counting on high retention rates.
(And as a person who grew up on SW franchise, the very notion that everybody and their dog gets to wield a lightsaber is totally odious to me, but that is not Bioware's fault but that dreadful permaed moron Lucas's)

TOR is set in time line when Jedis were not a hunted species and were avilable abundantly through out the galaxy. So yes TOR is being very true to the lore and timeline. Do not mix up TOR with SW movies, they are set in very different times.

Got a link of "them" saying they don't count on high retention rates? That is either misinformation or a lie. Never happened.
What they did say is that they need around 500,000 subs to be profitable. Which they will have easily.
It's not the "WoW" subscription model. Many other games started charging monthly subs well before WoW and continue to do so to this day, and are still around. People are still paying a sub to play Asheron's Call and Everquest for crying out loud.
Just because you love the B2P model doesn't mean it's right for this game. I and many many others will happily pay the sub for this game for a long time. I have seen much of the game and I have no doubts that I will play this game for years to come. They are going to sell millions of copies at launch and I think they will have pretty good retention rate for years to come.
Read some other reviews and impression reports as well next time instead of only the one(s) that fits any negative disposition you might have towards SWTOR.
I wonder how you will react when it happens that SWTOR has at the least the retention factor that LotrO had at launch or have whole hordes of players having fun with it.
Once again, if someone doesn't like a style of MMORPG's, doesn't mean that everyone doesn't like it, broaden your mind beyond your own very strictly limited borders of taste and viewpoint, people, it's a larger world out there with lots of people liking things you might not

This! Tired of hearing people complain about this issue. Even the original movies imply that the Jedi Order was once much larger and that they were hunted to near extinction.
It was ALWAYS a part of the lore that the history of the Jedi Order had many Jedi at the same time. Never once in the original trilogy did they claim that there was always supposed to be one Jedi or any silly crap like that.

You are trying too hard now really. I already answered your question about what was missing and no two wrongs doesn't make one right. Pssh, lightsabers. The game started for me when I got my heavy cannon. Played Commando to get a feel for the game, playing BH at launch at didn't want to ruin the fun.

Yadda yadda yadda.
If I were Lucas and I thought pink fluff bunny kittens as Jedi's source of power would help me sell more plastic I'd find a way to write em in "lore". Jeeez we're not talking about the holy Bible or the epic of Gilgamesh here.
I simply don't care for my SW experience to look like this:
It's just moronic. It makes me sad I ever thought SW was something. It's like this dreadful perma-haird moron is pissing on my childhood and laughing.
It's just disgusting.
If you grew up on the prequels than have my respect... and pity. I close my case and bugger off into my parallel reality where Lucas didn't turn out to be a terrible California-uber-alles creep and Star Wars is still something more than a vapid brainless vehicle for selling shiny toys (and "you are a HERO" games.)

The big green word POSITIVE doesn't mean good? What is that then, the side of Thaddius the review should stand on?
So its ok for the 1up review to be missing key features of the game but it's not ok for this review to be missing key points of the game?

Do you really think you're going to want to raid the Eternity Vault for the 100th time or play your 500th game of Huttball a year from now? I doubt it. I was tired of Warzones after just 1 beta weekend.

/facepalm

Then don't use a damn lightsaber, lol
You do know that jedis can use vibroblades even after unlocking LS rite (and there are some powerful ones afterwards)? Guess you didn't really play in depth enough to find that out
Also, there are classes that uses guns you know, lol
And yes I am just ripping on your post title because you haven't seem to use the opportunity of beta to test the game properly.
but continue overacting and pretending sandbox games actually have sand, boxes and shovels. heaven forbid someone doesn't love your precious game.
Actually OP judged the book by its cover a long time ago so this post doesn't come up as a surprise. What is surprising is that he left majority of features out of his review giving an illusion that linear questing is the only major thing that makes or breaks SWTOR. I knew he will post negaive about it but atleast have decensy of giving a fair review by touching on all the features.
If he had .. why did he bother testing it?
So now were not allowed to come up with pre-conceived notions? despite the fact that hype starts 3 years before release? Or if we do we have to stick with them? Our minds cant be changed?
Maybe he doesnt like crafting or pvp .. maybe he didnt have enough time to do flashpoints .. he gave a fairly balanced review anyway talking about things he liked and things he didn't ..
but thats just not allowed .. no one is allowed to say what they don't like without the wolves pouncing on top of them. why is there this need to jump down people's throats because .. heaven forbid .. they don't like something.

Nobody has tested 100% of the content that the released game will have to offer. It has not all been available to us in beta so far.
Still, there is a lot to do besides questing.

Not really.
Read some other reviews and impression reports as well next time instead of only the one(s) that fits any negative disposition you might have towards SWTOR.
I wonder how you will react when it happens that SWTOR has at the least the retention factor that LotrO had at launch or have whole hordes of players having fun with it.
Once again, if someone doesn't like a style of MMORPG's, doesn't mean that everyone doesn't like it, broaden your mind beyond your own very strictly limited borders of taste and viewpoint, people, it's a larger world out there with lots of people liking things you might not

now yer just clutching at straws. the first review on your post doesnt even talk about crafting at all. doesn't even really talk about pvp except to say that he hates pvp and the 1 match he was in he got destroyed on. also doesnt talk about character creation, or companions .. both of which the OP talked about .. and actually he says the companion system is good.
but that review is worth talking about because you consider it a good review .. but this review should be dismissed because you consider it bad. How convenient.

Atleast if i set myself up to give an impression i would try my best to touch on all features, end result doesn't matter if it is negative or positive. And i never mentioned anywhere that i consider the other review 'good'. You sure i am the one grasping at straws here?
Pssh, lightsabers. The game started for me when I got my heavy cannon. Played Commando to get a feel for the game, playing BH at launch at didn't want to ruin the fun.
This has been my experience near exactly. I had to bite my tongue for so long.
Yadda yadda yadda.
If I were Lucas and I thought pink fluff bunny kittens as Jedi's source of power would help me sell more plastic I'd find a way to write em in "lore". Jeeez we're not talking about the holy Bible or the epic of Gilgamesh here.
I simply don't care for my SW experience to look like this:
http://youtu.be/7Xlg9WFITBs

It's not that I "love" the B2P model. It's just I don't think it's optimal for the game as it is now. That's all.
