but seriosly, the exact same key-binds for this game as for wow. it's just to much like it. im just sad they didn't dare to try something new. it's great in a booring way. rip sw:galaxy
Any company thats brings out a mmo and does not try to do something different now is just in it for the money. I have no love for companys like that.
They did try something new, full voiced story and not just pointless questing.
Thats not new and this game still does pointless questing.
it is new, no mmo has story like swtor does. no mmo lets you make decisions that alter the course of the quest. that is new like it or not.

it's a game i enjoyed playing it, {mod edit}
No you cant say the same for me because I am not here trying to defend Lineage 3, hell I dont even know of there will be a Lineage 3. I have said time and time again that Star Wars is just another themepark that does nonthing for the genre. Just like Warhammer, Age Of Conan, Aion and Rift this is just something to play to a real mmo comes out. We are still waiting.
Point me in the direction of this real mmo you speak of ,until then i'll play whats on the market. if you don't like swtor then just move on why waste anymore time and energy on it?
Go read up on games like Guild Wars 2, ArcheAge and Everquest Next. At least these companys are listening to people and trying to provide something thats diffeent from the WoW Clone. Will these games be good? We have no idea but kudos to them for even trying. Like I said, I am bored so I came here.
Wow this is so great! Those movies, and cutscenes at every step, and great voice acting, and it actually has a story! And this cover thing, so great, i have to position to be able to use my attacks, yay!
Hour 2:
Darn i hate this cover thing so much, i always forget about it. Having to crouch to be able to shoot, so lame and annoying, especially when you lose Line of Sight to the target or the char auto-rolls to a spot where i don't face the mobs. Still, great quests, nice voice acting, gonna focus on following the story!
Hour 3:
Bla bla... blaaaa bla bla bla blaaaa ... god i hate runnin thru corridors (all looks like corridors to me, lacks the "open" space) just to speak to these ppl... was fun at first but what;'s too much it's too much... where's the adrenaline? If i wanted to watch a movie i would have rented one
oh yea, the thingy's up, press 1

phew, glad that's over!
woot lvl up? maybe i can customize my char, put some stat points here and there... oh well not for me, have fun you guys who enjoy it tho.
I'm no swtor fanboy, but did you really just judge and decide not to play an MMO on 3 hours of play?

Sorry to burst people bubbles here but all things in ANY MMORPG ultimatly breaks down to go from point A to point B, kill x and get y. Linear , themepark doesnt matter what ultimatly they all break down to that formula. Ultima Online was full of it as was Everquest even EVE Online.
Sometimes as in Themepark games the game itself gives you the direction and tells you who ans what to kill. The sign of a good Themepark is how well it conceals the mechanic. SWTOR does this well by placing the quests inside a fully fleshed out story. Yes some of the stories are a tad weak but thats because of the sheer number of them there are.
The sign of a good sandbox is how subtely it can direct you to the areas you can hunt in and how it can give you purpose and reasons for you actions beyone a generic because. But guess what just because your killing all those x's for exp or skill increases and not because a quest asks still doesnt alter the fact your killing a whole lotta x's for a reason. Likewise hunting out a resource or item or even money is just the same as aquiring y and you always need to get from point a to point b.
So I do not care what game you play these are generic traits that will never go away.
Most fun I've had in an MMO. Cutscenes load fast, the combat is fun, sound is brilliant. Definitely getting this - I was anyways, but still.
Don't know if it was my computer but everything was smooth and the graphics were great!
I wonder if you'll still feel this way after 6 months or so, when all the new shine has worn off, clicking your way through the cutscenes !
I cant speak for Lashley, but If I play can play an MMO for 6 months and have fun then I feel I have gotten my money out of it. I haven't played more than a month or two of any mmo since I played WoW.
And if he enjoys then who are you to tell them they are wrong?
I'm no swtor fanboy, but did you really just judge and decide not to play an MMO on 3 hours of play?
I'm not swtor hater but it bored and annoyed me after 3 hours, and i don't see what can "change" at higher levels. Does it get fun? Do you actually start "doing" stuff? Does it have actual RPG elements other than "select the nice answer for light points, select the rude-aggressive answer for dark points"?
I guess what i was trying to say is "if you're not into watching cutscenes for 70% of your play time, then it's not for you". And yea i am a bit pissed, i expected this to get me at least thru the holidays, now it seems a waste of money. But as i said, it''s just me, the ones who enjoy it, great for them. Did not mean to be aggressive against anyone.
The videos are awesome and the game seems to be quite polished for what it is, but thats about it.
I haven't believed the people saying that at the end of the day its WOW with lightsabers, but in fact it just feels like. Plus those screaming colors everywhere, paired with low-res textures (i'm playing max settings incl. AA on 1920x1080).
Most of all: the animations are RIDICULOUS. Watching my character "run" and "jump" at first i couldn't believe my eyes, as it looked like alpha or placeholder animation. But then how she sat down...omg.
Come on, the game may have it's appeal to some and it's ok...but don't you people see how plain bad the animations are?? Combat may be ok, but what's the point if i can't even watch my character run.
On a sidenote: They may have missed the memo that the ADHD audience they obviously cater to is in no way interested or remotely patient enough to follow through eternal dialogues scenes.
Game looks like 70% of the development' recources went into the production of videos and dialogues, the rest of the game got hammered together as an afterthought. They should have spend some money on the actual game instead on the media.
I'm no swtor fanboy, but did you really just judge and decide not to play an MMO on 3 hours of play?

The game does open up past that intro zone (which you most likely didnt get through). And there is an option to turn cutscenes off. I would give it another shot this weekend and maybe turn the cutscenes off and take the time to get to the faction capital.

You lack any sort of credibility. 3 Hours isn't even enough time to get off the starter planet which is when you pretty much loose the whole "Tutorial" aspect of the game.
If you don't like cutscenes theres a "skip option" for a reason.

Allright then, was planning to follow thru this weekend and reach at least level 10, will do that and probably with cutscenes off. Wanted to get a feel of the game, of the world, char development, actual gameplay, does it involve tactics, does it matter if i rush in or carefully approach packs of mobs etc. All i did so far was running thru corridors and watching movies, clicking on blue things or shooting my gun every 15min. Thanks for the advice, if it gets better that's good news, hopefully i'll come back with an apology.
I'm surprised how the story makes those kill x of y quests more enjoyable..i must say swtor pleasantly surprised me.
I felt the same when I played the first time. ^^ (and still)
It really makes the usual grind enjoying. One should be sure to find a class whose story fits. Some might find Sith too dark or Smuggler to light. But I agree, it does make it nice.
Have had fun, now need a small break.

Try another class. Not everyone enjoys the same class, first because some mechanics are different, also because story theme feels different. I loved the Sith Inq. but found Smuggler not so cool.
Try something else. Ideally without cover mechanics.

graphics, graphics...yer, maybe, but the gameplay is...world of warcraft in space...no really! I really don't get it, do you really like this game? Prime Online is the game that is worth waiting for...these themeparks...for teens....Go kill 10 Newbie Hunters...Go get 10 Newbie Hunter's Riffle from Newbie Hunters... this is just rediculous...was fun like...5 years ago...5 years!!!...(at maximus level) Go kill 20 Maximum Level Hunters...Go to a dungeon get some gear...got all the best gear? Wait for the expansion in which you can kill some mobs again, and get some better stuff... OMG....
When you can string a paragraph together without making it look like some crappy movie tagline, I'll listen to you. Until then, I ENJOY THE GAME, I. My opinion!
People like what people like, and that's fair enough...
But bear in mind that folks who only got to weekend test Rift gushed over it as well, and strongly argued against long term testers while they did it.
4 months later you couldn't get them to admit that they ever supported the game.
The thing that really made me smile about the OP though is that if a damning review was posted after such a short time that destroyed the game all the fans would aggressively dismiss it for not being enough time to judge it.
No opinion made after such a short experience is worth much and weekend tester gushing should be taken with a hefty dose of salt, which is MY opinion (seeing as we are waving your rights to an opinion all over the place).
having loads of fun with the game. i find the graphics quite nice on maximum. combat is smooth and animations look nice. i especially like how your character actually reacts to the fight rather than standing there and getting pummeled. only animation complaint i have is jumping, it looks off. everything else looks great IMO. sound is well done and star war-sey, VO is excellent as expected from a bioware game. world design is lush and interesting, and IMO looks even better than the characters. Enemies have interesting designs and while not what i would call intelligent, can be appropriately challenging.
overall, well done, fun to play MMO. nothing revolutionary, but if it is fun.... who cares?

Yeah, a business that it's in it to make money, what bastards!
Being excited about a mmo is one thing but calling it briliant is laughable. I'm sure TOR will have its diehard crowd that will stay for the long haul.

This was a dissapointment. How can they releasa game in 2011 with no collision detection and animations worse than old games?

Fair enough.
Personally, "everything is smooth and the graphics are great" stopped being impressive to me sometime in the early 90's.
You can say the same for Realm of the Mad God, btw... and I like that game's art direction much better than SW:TOR's.
Never once said it was my sole reason for playing though did I? I just made a passive comment about it.
