Are we testing the same game?

The one I tried this weekend had an annoying interface that seems not to understand the orders I was giving out, resulting in my char starting to loot in the middle of a firefight be course the click I made before the oppenent died was processed by the server after he died and thus send me into loot mode.

Besides pressing 1-9 is not my idea of fun.

And the less said about the Wanted style curving laser bolts the better. Is silly to look at. Game client: "Oh yeah, the guy you shot at, the server just told me you hit him, unfortunately it also told me he moved, so I am just going to curve the shot so you can see you hit him." Lol.

Lastly, for a game so close to release, its just way too bug filled. Call me again in 6 months if the fix it by then...

That's a hell of a complaint from an MMO player :P

Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.

That was remarkably fast.  From brilliant to boring, only I expect most people's determination in proving this game is a contender will make them play for a few months at least.  At least you got out now.

I'll still buy it, as I need something to kill some time. Whether thats this or RIFT or maybe even EVE, who knows.

I enjoyed it. We have different opinions, mind blown.

You forgot the part where OP said, after a few days no less, his claim of 'brilliant' was premature, and he's getting bored.

    hehe idd.

Thats not new and this game still does pointless questing.

Would you rather it did pointless grinding?

Or, perhaps, pointless random generated missions like the MMOs of old?

    All MMOs are a grind.

TOR goes to extraordinary efforts to cover up the grind, to hide it, by moving you along an extremely well crafted, fully voiced plotline.

    And it works.

See, I've been playing MMOs long enough to remember a time when there were no quests, no instances, no story beyond what we made ourselves.

And while it was fun, I could NEVER go back because I have taken the rose colored glasses off when viewing my old UO/SWG days and you know what I see?

    Lack of content. Boring grinding.

Bring in more high quality story and VO like TSW/TOR/GW2 and every new major AAA MMO is doing.

    Get with the times mate.

Well to each his own.. but sub-par compared to what? ...i have played an beta tested loads of mmorpg's (including the bigger ones) and i find this to be a superb mmorpg.. I have just played lvl 1-10 and im already a junkie *hehe*. But I'm curious why you think it is sub-par?

That struck me too.  Yeah I don't mind someone not liking the game but to go and call it 'sub-par' I can't help but wonder 'compared to what?'.   Rift?  DCUO? Aion?  Darkfall?  LOTRO?  FFXIV?  STO?    VERY far from sub-par compared to those games listed.   At worst it's equal, I'd wager head over heels better than all I listed short of Rift I suppose.(only because I didn't play Rift beyond testing but hear good things about it from people)

P.S. WoW makes me vomit, SWTOR does not, so they've got to be doing something right. ;)

Edit: Oh yeah, I meant to say... Sure it's no Guild Wars 2, but then again these days, what is?

We really need separate forums for every newly launched game. There can be the anti-<MMO> one and there can be the 'what general discussion should be' one. All the lamenting can happen together where each can find solace in like minded can't-move-on-ers leaving the rest of us to actually move forward and discuss meaningful and relevant topics.

I haven't believed the people saying that at the end of the day its WOW with lightsabers, but in fact it just feels like. Plus those screaming colors everywhere, paired with low-res textures (i'm playing max settings incl. AA on 1920x1080).

Most of all: the animations are RIDICULOUS. Watching my character "run" and "jump" at first i couldn't believe my eyes, as it looked like alpha or placeholder animation. But then how she sat down...omg.

Come on, the game may have it's appeal to some and it's ok...but don't you people see how plain bad the animations are?? Combat may be ok, but what's the point if i can't even watch my character run.

On a sidenote: They may have missed the memo that the ADHD audience they obviously cater to is in no way interested or remotely patient enough to follow through eternal dialogues scenes.

Game looks like 70% of the development' recources went into the production of videos and dialogues, the rest of the game got hammered together as an afterthought. They should have spend some money on the actual game instead on the media.

    It's not just me!

I keep seeing people making comments about how great the animations are!  I don't understand this.  Are they not the same as in the videos?  Because what I saw in all the videos was awful!  Everything looks stiff, disjointed, and mechanical.  Dragon Age didn't look that bad; I really don't get what they were doing with the animations in ToR.

I seriously don't care about this game one way or the other.  I've had enough of starwars over the last 30 years, and I really haven't any interest in yet another starwars anything.  I like Bioware, I think they make good games.  And I really think this game will be a hit and have lots of followers, but seriously, the animations are some of the worst I've seen in years.  I really don't understand how people think they look good.

It's almost like their models have very simple skeletons, which would make sense if you're expecting to have lots of stuff happening in the game.  The more complex the skeleton the more work the PC has to do, and the less accesible the game becomes.  SoE even had to reduce the skeletons in VG to ease some of the performance problems they had.

Brilliant for kids yes, childish and immature for older gamers.

Since an mmo is a social game, I feel that it is as mature as the company you keep.

I sit on a man's back, choking him and making him carry me, and yet assure myself and others that I am very sorry for him and wish to ease his lot by all possible means - except by getting off his back.
