I'm right with ya OP. I don't think I have ever enjoyed an MMO as much as this before and the list of MMOs I've played is huge. I liked UO, Asheron's Call, DAoC, WoW, Lineage II, and Aion the most but SWTOR is definitely a next step up towards a more engaging, immersive multiplayer RPG. All the other MMOs have already been uninstalled and I don't have the slightest hint of interest in seeing them again. I think I am going to be very happy with SWTOR, single player RPGs, and other multiplayer genres for awhile. I can't wait to get started in live SWTOR!
Agreed x2. I haven't really PLAYED a MMORPG in years.. Basically just been TRYING games hoping for something like ToR that I can actually spend time playing and really enjoy.. ToR has a balance of awesome features and polish, such engaging gameplay / combat.
Best MMORPG ever made. Having the same amount of fun I did in UO / EQ / AC and old school WoW..
Way better then I had hoped for. I know where Ill be for a looooooong time.
Indeed it is a descent MMO as far as TOR is concerned. I don't know if it's the greatest MMO ever created though.
I look at all GOLLY WOW AWESOME posts with every bit as much suspicion as OMGSUX0RZ H8IT posts. A grain of salt is always in order.
Besides, in a couple of short years, we'll know for sure

I don't know how you perceive most of the positive, mature comments and praise around SWTOR as childish rants in capital letters and l33t speak, but I think you need to look again. There are a lot of good, smart, mature gamers being drawn to SWTOR and I think your perception of them by these comments is way off.

Well not exactly. The game could go on for 10 years and have 10 million subs and I wouldn't think it was the greatest mmo. Perhaps the most successful, but greatest is highly subjective and totally down to each individual.
Good game and all, but not one for me.

Except, that background is static and never changes. You can never go explore it. Your character's boots will never set foot on those cool looking mountains. Heck, you can't even walk up to the base of those mountains. At least in Games like Lotro, WoW, EQ2, this is possible. This is one of my pet peeves with the zones in SWTOR and part of what makes them feel NON realistic and NON immersive.
I agree on the backgrounds... or at least, I wish there were more weather effects, and day-night phases. But in that picture, I bet there's alot more you can get to than you think. And still, there is no game around that lacks borders. At some point, you are always blocked from moving further. But back on this whole mountain climbing thing. I think this is the second time I've seen you make this comment, and I still don't get it. SWTOR is NO less "mountain-climby" than WoW, LotRO, or EQ2. SWG allowed you to climb almost any grade, so I get why some people might make such a comparison there. But just like WoW, LotRO, and EQ2, in SWTOR, some grades you can climb, and some you can't, and that grade max isn't any shallower than any of those games. There were TONS of places to climb on Taris. There's at least one Holo there that requires climbing a HUGE shipwreck in order to get it.
Unlike games like WoW, the SW:ToR developers didn't have the option of creating a planet that was roughly 107 miles in diameter. They could have put the 'edge' right where you're allowed to run, but instead, they created a much large vista for your viewing pleasure. It's much more realistic than not. In the dreaded 'real world', if you see mountains off in the distance and decide to walk there...you don't get there. I live next to the Blue Ridge mountains and they're part of the landscape around here. Anyone who walks to the mountains is either unemployed or has several days or a week off of work.
Not that it wouldn't be cool to have a landscape that takes several days or a week to walk across, but it wouldn't be practical.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

I am relaxed. Just think your perception is off. Very simple. Maybe you need to relax You need to remember this is the internet and you can't see what mood I am in.
I've said it once and I'll say it again and again and again if I have to, if you are not excited about and really into the story and role play dialogue/morality systems and such, then find another game - this one is not for you.
I don't really know if I'm excited about the storyline and what not, but I'm willing to give it a shot and see how it plays out.
I'll be there for sure sometime in early 2012.
Let me just say..
I was let down by the story in ME2 and DA2, so I was a bit worried that Bioware had lost their touch when it came to excellent story telling, as ME1 and DA1 were amazingly better than their sequels (IMO) in terms of story.
I can honestly say that Bioware must have been hoarding their talent and saving themselves for TOR.
Even classes I didn't care about at all before I tried and they all have such amazing story, I am going to have to "eventually" roll a toon of every class just because the story is simply that good.
See, that was my initial concern, I played DA1 and didn't care much for the game. Not because the story was bad, it was quite good actually, but rather the fact I was playing alone, and I've just not been able to stay with any single player game (not even the original TOR games) since I began playing MMORPG's.
So perhaps this blend of good story telling and my favorite multi-person genre will be the right mix that I've been looking for.

I've felt the exact same about Bioware, even including their earlier RPGs that come very-highly praised. I'm just not a big fan of BW I guess, but SWTOR is a lot of fun. The same thing happened with me and Bethesda. Never liked Elder Scrolls until Skyrim, and now I can't get enough of it! It's a good time to be a gamer
I think down the road as they fully fleshout this game it could be my fav MMO. The foundation is solid, the core is well done, and the inclusion of RPG game-play adds a layer that has been missing from this genre, there's a game to play here outside of your standard MMO tropes.
As it stands TOR offers quite a bit IMO, and it hasn't even launched yet. As they add new functionality and futher expand the MMO elements, such as possible additions to space, player bounties, etc.. And if they focus some attention to community building tools, such as guild ships and the like, I could see this game having a very prosperous future.

"in a couple of short years" ? Hell no, the modern MMO world moves much faster than that, lol
6 months will be all the time that's needed !
If SW:TOR steals more than 50% of WoW's subscriber base, AND keeps them for more than 6 months, that alone would be a miracle.
An even greater miracle would be if SW:TOR steals almost none of the WoW players, but still has 5 million paying subs after 6 months...
Personally, I believe that the cash shop and eventual F2P strategy for SW:TOR is already planned out in detail, and built into the games design. The unholy alliance of EA and LucasArts would not let such an opportunity go to waste...

Quite honestly, no other game will do for me right now. I have accounts with aoc, ddo, lotro, potc, and potb, not to mention little games like Wizards 101, and the Star Wars version of that clone wars game, but NONE of them can even remotely touch SWTOR. I log in to any of these games and feel bored immediately.
My paid account runs out/has run out on most of them in the next few days.
However, there is alot that this game is missing and I really wish we had a good sandbox game. They haven't made a AAA sandbox in so long that isn't solely PvP.
This game will fail the expectaions of their owners not the players.
1. The owners, Electronic Arts (EA) is funding this. They had a few MMOs before this one, Earth and Beyond (it had a ship mode and ground mode and you could fly straight from space to the surface of a planet without loading screens, with a little more support it been fine). EA not only killed it but used its server for the Sims Online, which ended up becoming a massive redlight district, they mercy killed it.
2. The game is made by Bioware, who does a great job at single player games. In single player games with scifi or high fantasy settings you are the hero in which the whole freakin world revolves around. In a true MMO you're just a random person or mercanary who goes on a big adventure, only one person can kill a uber bad guy once, everyone else would be screwed out of that.
3. Players will breathe in the content rather than consume it, unles they have a random quest generator, players will leave the game in a month or two cuz they've done everything.
