Honestly, I don't see an issue with the review, most of them stated they were 'on the fence' about the game and they would likely try it out and see. The negatives points they brought up were subjective and matters of personal taste that might be shared by others.
In response thats been typical regarding this game (and not abnormal in the industry but definately worse than even BF/COD) they've generated over-reactions both for and against their OPINIONS. Personally, I see where the issues stated would be a negative. Mostly I just hate the HYPE & HATE Machine thats been following this game. It has probably sold the game more than the game has thru sheer publicity (positive & negative: the only thing worse than bad press coverage is no press coverage).
(I believe it would've been profitable, fun [for some] and successful even without the Hype since it looks like it was designed for longevity rather than Initial effect - based on what I saw during the Stress/Public Beta last weekend, what I've learned about the tech driving the game and I largely agree with most of their statements so I imagine I'll be lynched and flamed for my opinion as well, oh well thats the how this consumer market group is apparently)
Tor misses the mark on how to tell a story with an mmorpg. If you want interaction make those interactions between players not between VO npcs with silly choices. They should have focused on a more diverse faction system not just bad guys and good guys. It just plays like a single player rpg, just doesn't cut it. Its painfully slow as well. If I could best describe the game, its like Everquest dipped in molassos with voice over talent.
You appear to have forgotten the word "sandbox" in front of mmorpg. Because what you are describing isn't what we get from themeparks, and BioWare never claimed they were making a sandbox.
And for a lot of people, being very similar to the experience of a quality single player RPG experience is exactly why this game is awesome, it's a major element that has been missing from previous MMO(not really RPG)s.
Peace is a lie, there is only passion. Through passion, I gain strength. Through strength, I gain power. Through power, I gain victory. Through victory, my chains are broken. The Force shall free me.

R.I.P. Gamepro. They use to be one of the top gaming magazines out there. They have been around for 22 years. Gamestop, or back when they were called EBgames, they heavily promoted Gamepro Mag. Back on topic, I have played in two separate betas for SWTOR getting 4 of the characters between 15 and 20 and have to agree with most of what they said. I dont think they were trying to be negative in the review, I just believe they went in with there expectations set to high. Can you blame them for that? Its Bioware after all.
However I didnt go into the betas with a high expectation, as Bioware has said in interviews the formula will be similar to WoW, but with voice overs and of course lightsabers. With that said, yes it feels a bit like old WoW, but a faster pace. And surprisingly. being someone that started playing WoW a month after release and stopped shortly after Cata because I was bored and started to hate what Blizz was doing with the game, I find SWTOR refreshing and fun. Go figure. I recommend if you havent had a chance to get into beta, reserve your judgement until you get a chance to play at a friends house, buddy key, or a trial when its available.
I don't know how to react to the reviews. You can't review an MMO based on a few hours of gameplay so don't even try.
With that said, I do agree that the one starting area I saw as a Sith Inquisitor wasn't as interesting as I'd hoped. But to say that the DK starting area is the above SWTOR seems a bit biased. The DK starting area was an improvement over what WOW had done in the past and the Worgen area was fun for me as well. But they aren't as immersive as the voice overs in SWTOR.
These reviews are by people that still really enjoy WOW. I have no idea what their feelings towards the SW universe are and how that affected their opinions of this game. If you still enjoy WOW and only care about getting to the endgame in MMOs then I don't see anything in SWTOR or any other MMO that would get you to leave. You'll leave when you're sick of WOW and don't mind leaving your toons behind.
My point of view is that I'm currently poor and am sick of WOW style endgame. I have no doubt that I would enjoy leveling characters in SWTOR but I'm saving my money for the two games that excite me more and don't have subscription fees: GW2 and D3. GW2 may be all hype but I'm very excited to try and support a AAA MMO that breaks the holy trinity paradigm.
Okay so I played this game for a grand total of 1 minute and I feel like I'm ready to write a detailed review. I found the whole affair rather boring, as it seems all they want you to do is 'pick a side' and 'create a character'. I don't feel that MMOs nowadays should have characters or sides. That's what WoW did, and if you're going to copy WoW why even bother?
I never got as far as picking a name or hitting the Play button, but BioWare definitely missed the mark on this one. Next!

I stopped about 4 minutes in. That english dude with the 5 hours under his belt was the centerpiece for most of the video that I watched, and I could not handle it. You may as well just interview people who have vaguely heard about the game to get their opinions., since you're not going to the effort to actually put time into the MMO. At least he admitted that his play time was rather low.
And that chick who has played for a week and got to a whooping level 13? She may have had a week to play, but I'm guessing she spent about an equal amount of time in game as Mr. British.
Blizzard is a "GRIMMY ASS COMPANY WITH MASSIVE BALLS" for paying off out of business Gamepro people to talk shit on Swtor LOL, this takes the fucking cake, and YES I know for a fact Blizzard payed those people off, what a bunch of dirt bags holy hell, this business is cut throat like drug dealing , I have seen it all guys lol.
Here is the PROOF, Gamepro voted Swtor game awards not 1 but 3 times over the last 3 years and to have people from the OUT OF BUSINESS Gamepro say the things they said only proves that they where payed off, only 1 company will do such a thing because they have the most to lose, only 1 company has the money to blow on propaganda stunts like this and that is Blizzard.

I know this is going way off topic and for that i'm sorry OP.
This so reminds me of Rift and just prior to its release. So much hype & OMG dynamic events are so cool, and the haters countering everything about it. It's funny how no one ever talks about that game now ! Rifts went from OMG cool > frustration > ignored in that order. I fear Tor will follow in its footsteps.
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...
I actually agree with most of that video. It's WoW in space, kind of like everybody has been saying since day one. No matter how much dialogue/in-game cutscenes they throw in the game it's still just padding for a fed-ex, or a kill ten of this enemy quest. I don't care about that dialogue if it's just going to end up with me doing that. Just let me skip it altogethere and let me do my boring ass quests.
Been playing for a couple hours now. Played Jedi Knight, Sith Warrior, and dabbled with Bounty Hunter a little bit... = no gameplay per class (same person has a generally positive review).
If you're kinda one of those people...Just tell me what to do, run around, do stuff...
I just wasn't interested in listening to people talk, I wanna do stuff, not listen... not interested in talking himself...
Character creation does suck...
I can do this in Rift, I can do this in WoW...same guy who just wants to do stuff
Other than that one guy, the review didn't seem very negative. And that oaf has no idea what he wants, he just likes doing stuff
Gamers obviously enjoy different stuff, but I'm quite surprised at the criticism that gets levelled at the cut-scenes. I'll admit, I was fairly sceptical about how they'd fit with the overall MMO experience when I first read about TOR, but having played it and seen how the interaction works I was pretty impressed with how they are actually part of the gameplay.
Some of the choices you make during them change the outcome of missions, they provide moral dilemmas which put can put you in conflict with the people you are trying to win over, and perhaps most importantly they give something to work you character on. By that I mean that you can make much more of your character than just slaughter everything that moves and pretend that your combat cursor (which is all your character really is in most MMOs) has something more to it.
As I said, gamers enjoy different things and I can see how players who are satisfied with MMOs as mindless grinds might not like the interactive cutscenes because they add nothing to the business of gaining XP. For me, though, they're great and I gather they are for a lot of other too. They way they are implemented brings something new and interesting to the stale and tired MMO genre, and as such are a real innovation. Just not for everyone.
There are things I'd like to see improved in TOR, such as a more alive world and better AI that makes mobs a bit less predictable, but the cut-scenes (I'm not even sure if cut-scene is a good enough name for them to be honest) are fine in my opinion.
I know this is going way off topic and for that i'm sorry OP.

It's funny how no one ever talks about that game now ! Rifts went from OMG cool > frustration > ignored in that order. I fear Tor will follow in its footsteps.
Which is true for any MMO unless it is WOW which is popular for all the wrong reasons and hated so much on this website. But no matter what happens in future it will do a lot better than Tera which is ignored and forgotten even before its release.
I dont get it... the game has issues but the whole staff never even played it... the asian chick says in since friends and family then comments later in the video that she has never experienced companions in the game, considering EVERY class gets first companion within first 2 to 4 hours of playing that is utter BS, either she did get companions and couldnt find anything bad to say about them, or she didnt play more than an hour on any single class in I would guess 6 months to a year.(not sure when friends and family would have started)
Looks like 1 person made it off the first world, none of them like story driven games either,... why even bother reviewing a game when the only thing that you actually seemed to verify was that it didnt come up saying world of warcraft thus you didnt like it.
SWTOR might not be a wow killer but it certainly is leaps and bounds better than say AOC, STO and others (of course in my opinon)
Again the game itself isnt perfect, nor is it genre changing but it is fun, and compelling, it makes your character have a story that you actually feel a part of, its a rounded out gaming experience that caters to rpg, pve, pvp, raiding, solo.... the only huge miss for me is space and that can be expanded on later in an expansion or something.
How can anyone take these guys seriously? For one thing - they act like they're annoyed having to do this review video and also aren't even familiar with the game mechanics after supposedly playing for hours. The one guy was lamenting about having no way to bypass the cut scenes and that's not true at all and the Asian chick referred to Light and Dark side as Blue and Red.
Gamepro? Should be called LAMEPro.
Currently playing SWTOR and it's MUCH better than it was at launch.
Someone give those people some anti-depressants! If i closed my eyes during the video i would have thought they were moody teenagers, apart from the Asian chick.
ahh, just what we need more dependency, cmon think before you type.
I watched the entire thing, It bothered me a little bit, the guy that is talking about not being able to get past the cut scenes , you can of course with space bar.
I think its funny though how they just give there own opinions on it unlike tons of people that just follow what everyone else says. It looked more like acting to me though, even if they loved the game they could have been puting this on as a skit for gigles.
They are wow vets giving their initial impressions of the game.
What they said seemed reasonable enough to me. They wanted to jump in and do cool stuff right away, instead they found the gameplay and story pretty slow paced and uninteresting.
You are still doing the same old collect x, kill 10 x and deliver x quests but now you have to sit through several minutes of boring dialogue.
Their reactions are understandable. I was questing today in an MMO and was wondering how fun it would be if I had to wach a 2-3 minute clip every time I talked to an NPC. ugh... I was glad I didn't have to.
did anyone who played tor beta actually watch this video there ignorance of basic game mechanics in tor makes u wonder if they even played it.
I dont care if a game site has bad stuff to say about tor i loved it ill play it at launch and enjoy myself for as long as tor is out.
That said anyone with half a brain realizes these people had no clue what they were talking about.
The moment the guy says u cant get past cutscenes and they take 7 minutes none of mine took more then 2-3 and i watched them all.
The real read there was the guy making fun of gamepros video in his article under it . The fact anyone went ot video as the meat of that whole thing missed the whole point of the link
REad what the guy who posted the video said it made alot more sense then the actualy video.
At the beginning of the video, didn't one of those chicks admit that she spent like 13 hours in the game and only got to around level 13?
One would think she would have been able to see much more of the game given that timespan.
one of the guys said he only spent a couple of hours in game.
Well, maybe you should be reminded that for a lot of people, the initial gameplay is what sucks them into the game. If it is yawn-inspiring, perhaps that needs to be addressed. EVE suffers from this too. The game is just dry and lonely at the beginning, and few people survive it.
A sure sign that you are in an old, dying paradigm/mindset, is when you are scared of new ideas and new technology. Don't feel bad. The world is moving on without you, and you are welcome to yell "Get Off My Lawn!" all you want while it happens. You cannot, however, stop an idea whose time has come.

This is more along the lines of my thinking. One of the most interesting comments I read from The Secret World previews recently was "The world is the story". If your game world is rich, alive and meaningful, and gameplay is thrilling, it will tell you a story in itself.
To me it feels like Bioware used the VO quests to force-feed me a story/adventure, rather than let me create my own and experience the game world. This creates the most linear and controlled MMO experience of all time. KOTOR Online, indeed.

The one guy was lamenting about having no way to bypass the cut scenes and that's not true at all and the Asian chick referred to Light and Dark side as Blue and Red.
Gamepro? Should be called LAMEPro.
Currently playing SWTOR and it's MUCH better than it was at launch.
ahh, just what we need more dependency, cmon think before you type.
Anyone else find the comments a little scary? Fanboyism is one thing, but holy hell, what is wrong with people?
edit: oops, I was referring to the youtube version. Same video, but with youtube comments...

When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.
did anyone who played tor beta actually watch this video there ignorance of basic game mechanics in tor makes u wonder if they even played it.
Hahaha, someone pointed out the completely contradictory statements they are making in the YouTube comments.
