Someone name a better mmo than swtor that is available to play right now...im waiting.
I'd rather play DC Universe than SWTOR, but I am not gonna say its better. Its just more actiony and its free.
im not asking for an opinion, im asking for you to put another mmo up against swtor and feature to feature tell me its better quality. there really isn't any real quality titles out there. if you are new to mmo's or like themepark style mmo's swtor is currently the best bang for your buck.

As for the hype, they delivered exactly what they told they would so i'm not disappointed at all in this game.

uhh....no matter what...its all going to be opinion. I could say Hello Kitty Online is better and I'd be right in my eyes because that is my opinion...you could say im wrong because that is your opinion.
So noone can win this debate. How do you classify feature to feature which one is better? I can only tell you that I enjoyed most MMOs more then I enjoyed Swotr. That is my opinion.

Themeparks off the top of my head?
WoW, Lotro & RIFT are much better mmos than SWTOR in my personal opinion.
SWTOR has nice voice acting but the actual mmo features and the quality of the quest content (The tasks not the voice acting) is average at best.
WoW, Lotro and Rift are very raid focused mmo's. if you don't like raiding you're screwed. My point is swtor has more of everything. its has more pvp than those 3 you mentioned and it also has very solid pve.

if you were to read the features of several mmo's on a box, and all features in the game were listed..which would seem more appealing if you had no previous knowledge of any of the games?

I've played all the games u just listed and i understand its all personal preference but i think only WoW is better. I tried Lotro a few different times and it didnt work for me. Rift was just a mess imo. SWTOR is slightly above average imo. (just slightly). It has room for improvement. I agree that they spent too much time with the voiceovers when they should have focued more on the actual gameplay but i also can see why they spent all that time on the voiceovers as well

What pvp does SWTOR have that WoW or Rift doesnt? seriously they both have instanced pvp and a few open world objectives.

illium is alot different to what wow or rift has pvp wise. for instance illum doesn't reset, if you capture the planet its yours until the other faction take it back. pvp in rift and wow is always on a timer and then it resets. There never is a feeling of ownership.

I would have to agree, i hate when people say WOW is better. WOW has 7+ year jump on swtor so really if you say that then is that really fair. Also atleast 2-3 mil of those people have played it since launch or close to BC tme and would like something new as several surveys have stated. LOTRO is a PVE driven game which i feel is not a good comparison since they attempt to PVP was bad atleast in my opinion and several other people have stated this as well. Rift I can give you this, It has alot of different things to do in the game. I enjoyed Rift but I am a die hard Star Wars fan, I played SWG and will plan on playing SWTOR.
But I feel we are not on the topic at hand here with what the OP is trying to say. He felt he was dissappointed due to the large hype of the game and the budget. Also the company making the game. I think what would help this thread is asking the OP what type of MMO's does he like Sandbox, Themepark, PVP, PVE. If the OP can answer that question then we can tell him if he was right or wrong with this idea of thinking the game was what he thought it was.
Those of you who know me have probably seen that I've been fairly critical of SWTOR since I played the beta weekend. I played Jedi Knight to level 10 and was kind of turned off by the experience.
But in thinking about it, I realize that maybe I just expected too much from the game. There is a lot of hype surrounding this game, it's developed by a major AAA developer, and it's no secret that tons of money and time went into it. I don't think I was really hyped for the game, I just expected it to be very high quality because of its developer cred.
So even though I knew the game was going to follow the WoW formula (which I dislike), I expected it to be an "awesome" example of a WoW formula game, but found it to be only "decent." This was a let down and basically caused me to view the game negatively.
But in retrospect, I think that if this wasn't a Bioware game with five bajillion dollars behind it, I probably would not have been nearly as critical, and may have enjoyed the game much more. Does anyone else feel the same? Do you feel like the hype that has been generated on this game raised your expectations too high?
Sounds like you genuinely entered the game on the bias that you would not enjoy it. Probably just too jaded.
wow has no persistant open world pvp . tor will have that in illum at max level im nto sure if the pvp lakes are all persistant or not but im guess yes so tahts 11 of them.
Wows pvp thats objective based like wintergrasp are on timers . u fight for control ever 3-4 hrs or so but in the meantime one side contorls it and it cant be taken away.
In tor there objective pvp will be persistant so u can fight over them 24/7 if u like. Thats diffrent then what wow has at least im not sure about rift never played it.

The thing is that is the point of the game. That is the point of all Bioware games. So if they didnt do as much as they did they i think then they would have not lived up to their promise as a company.
Nothing wrong with expecting too much as long as you do not blame Bioware for your high expectations;)
I personally believe Bioware delieverd what they promised and even surpassed some of my expectations. No false promises were made and they were pretty open about SWTOR and its direction from day one.
What do you care if someone blames Bioware for anything? You're in bed with them?
OP: It's hard to make SW franchise not to mention making MMO. They did this kind of try and someone will make another after some years.
I think the game really fails in its starting areas, and the entire starting experience. For every class I played at least.
I can't think of an mmorpg with a better starting experience. In most mmo's you are sent out to kill 10 wolves and then you are told about some war that you really cant get involved in. In swtor it feels like you are apart of that war even if it is artifically presented to you in a personal story.

This is exactly right and that is why most mmos that are coming out have a form of EQ/WOW element to it. The games that have been successful are ones that have played off this formula and just added their own twist to it. Very little amount of mmos that have gone away from this formula have been successful. Which is sad but its true.
One of those reasons is rpgs play lke rpgs, fps liek fps and fighter games like fighter games. I see alot of posts where people want fighter type skills, dodge, parry, bliock done by the player like in fighter games.
This is an rpg and rpg mechanics are rpg mechanics rpgs play like rpgs. im sorry but its true. halo, bf3. and other shooters may have diffrences but for the most part the basic mechanics are the same.
In fighter games u get similar mechanics in rpgs u get similar mechanics. When u add fighter mechanics to an mmo its no longer an mmorpg but an mmo fighter
i dont understand why players wanna change the rpg genre . I for one love rpgs single player and mmo's
Biowares diffrence is the story , companions and choice and the way they are done. Oh and story is diffrent then any mmo ive tried and i tried lotro
I couldnt stand the starter experiance enough to go very far in lotro. Which is sad since i loved the movies. Swtor has a great starter experiance for me at least.
I lvoed tor and will play it as long as it exists. U dont have to agree with me i dont expect everyone to love tor anymore then i love lotro even though there are players that do.

Swtor is the closest thing to an rpg in the mmorpg genre. i dunno what other mmorpg's can be classified as but they really lack the rpg part. when i play swtor it reminds me of playing games like neverwinter nights or kotor and for me that's what has been missing in the mmo genre.
See the biggest problem is you only got to level 10. Level 10 is nothing like any mmo the game truely takes off around 25 which in this case is the halfway mark. By level 10 you have gotten to do all of pertty much nothing you get the basics and thats it. You are more than welcome to have your own thoughts about the game and thats fine but before saying that its a lack luster game get a bit further into it. I mean you really only played the tutorial. I mean if we rated say Legend of Zelda off the part were link had no sword no shield and no actual goal than nintendo probally wouldnt still be making them because we play threw them anyway. MMOs get a bad rap because people dont want to truely give them the chance they need. What I say give it till 25 if you still would rather be pulling your teeth our with a pair of sharpened tweezers than fine you gave it a go and it wasnt your thing no harm no foul and you have givin it enough time to truely build a repreble analysis. Just my thots.

1. WoW
Better classes, game world, crafting, dungeon content and combat.
