Why is this game so Expensive?

fistormfistorm Member UncommonPosts: 868

I really wanted this game but even the cheapest one is 60 bucks and thats without goodies on a preorder.   The collectors edition with all the goodies, 150 bucks, wow!   Theres no way I can pay for this, even relatives wont spend this much for a xmas gift on me.  The sub seems reasonable,  I guess I have to wait to get this....  /sad

I don't have any comparrisons, but most new games I see coming out are close to 60 bucks.  Thats single player games and MMOs.  Like I said, I don't have impericial numbers, but I'm pretty sure.  I'll be interested to see what otherrs say.

Because the DVD or digital download bandwidth is lined in gold.

actually it's EA ... 59.99 is their average cost.

    Well

    1) they have to make up for the huge budget they blew on voice actors.

    2) "Infinity Ward can do it, so can we!"

    3) $10 more isn't really *that* bad. It's a couple more handies.

its a "normal" prize for any game that is pre/just releases, smaller games ask less since they costed less to  make and dont need to gather so much and they need the lower cost pr .

while "big" games can ask kinda whatever they like to some extend and do gladly so to get a early retuern of investment. will take a few months depending on succes of the game to see lower shop prizes.

Basically every PC game is $60.00 these days, which isn't bad considering in the early 90s $50.00 was the standard for premium PC games.

Considering that with digital copies they don't have the added cost of manufacturing/shipping it isn't really justified.

Try paying in Euros to see what it feels to be ripped off lol. Every month you pay your sub also counts to that feeling.

I ususally buy almost every MMO and some others like The elder scroll series, battlefield series all CE just for a cool toys that come along with and the POSTERS!, but this one will be a pass.

Most MMOs in the past before this game and probably in the future 39.99 normal box, and around 70ish to 80 dollars CE, never seen these prices before.

    Three reasons:

Reason nr. 1 - This is Star Wars and it have hordes of more or less 'fanatical' fans that will buy anything with SW tag on it and will pay ridiculous money for it.

Reason nr. 2 - This is Star Wars and EA have to pay some of it's profits to LucasArts

Reason nr. 3 - This is propably biggest mmorpg release since WoW, and this cost + EA / Bioware know they can

Not to mention that AAA titles lately just cost around 60$...

have to agree there never understood why companies charge same exact amount for digital downloads on some games

You know what, I agree with you OP. 60 bucks is too much for video games, especially when they drop so fast in price after release. 50 was already a bit much.

Early 90s games did not charged you with DLC's and cash shops and other c**p though.

    Two reasons:

    1. Retailers would not want to sell / would want bigger cut if they would face cheaper digital competition especially from producer itself

    2. They can
