The regular game isnt expensive, its pretty much the going rate for new releases. Yes the collectors edition is pricy, but you dont need it, its just fluff.
You should see SoEs prices for Everquest 2. The latest expansion was 40 bucks for the regular expansion, and all it had was 1 class, 20 new aa points and 2 features that are relatively crap. No new content at all. They also had the nerve to have a collectors edition for twice that price. What a joke.
Considering that with digital copies they don't have the added cost of manufacturing/shipping it isn't really justified.
LoL - of course it's justified - it's their business and they can charge what they want. You don't like it - don't buy it and your "justified" in not doing so.
The price will likely come down at some point but that depends on how popular the game remains. I still find with all of the forms of entertainment available to us - MMO's are still the cheapest overall considering you can play 24/7 if you want.
I'm almost positive that most of you complaining about the price of MMO's have either an ipad...iphone...ipod or all of the aforementioned and I wonder if you went crying to the Apple Forums on why they have to be so expensive. Yeah...I thought not
Currently playing SWTOR and it's MUCH better than it was at launch.
Just saying guy, the game does not offer anything new besides a great story on rails, its not something new, if someone had made a sifi with something new and something never seen before, then it would be worth it.
The truth may be puzzling. It may take some work to grapple with. It may be counterintuitive. It may contradict deeply held prejudices. It may not be consonant with what we desperately want to be true. But our preferences do not determine what's true.
Maybe its an American thing but over here in the UK games do not average at $60, even when converted to British pounds. Sure big blockbusters like Modern Warfare have costed more on the PS3/360, but pc games are always cheaper over here and not only that, MMO's are cheaper still. Ive bought my fair share of MMO's from the shops and i remember seeing Rift on sale in game and that was £30-ish. £45 is virtually unheard of for a MMO or a pc game in Britain. Hope this isn't going to be the trend or ill be waiting for the prices to plummet from now on.

Ever thought about that some people actually might enjoy a game with great story on rails ? it doesn't have to something new ?
Maybe, just maybe..they still find it FUN to play and enjoy with friends ?

See this is what I am talking about, I have never seen a "MMO" for 60 bucks.

I ususally buy almost every MMO and some others like The elder scroll series, battlefield series all CE just for a cool toys that come along with and the POSTERS!, but this one will be a pass.
Most MMOs in the past before this game and probably in the future 39.99 normal box, and around 70ish to 80 dollars CE, never seen these prices before.
So the $150.00 CE SWTOR isn't worth it? The Elder Scrolls Skyrim is the same price on the CE version and you get two or three little things? Sorry your post makes no sense.
You forget that skyrim is truely a great game and for me a hardcore fan of the elder scroll series that was a must have. This one just does not make sense. I guess if you slap Star wars on water bottles you can charge 10 bucks for it too.
Maybe others who gets the CE is also hardcore fan for Star Wars and love the game as well?
In the same logic, you can slep a TES on anything and charge crazy amount for it too ?
*watches the dragon fly backward*
I guess we will see how long the enthusiasm last with this one lol. I am just saying you cannot compare a Great title to a regular run of the mill mmo whose only inovation is VO.
*shakes head*
So a game that can be finished in a week. Thats sole replayability is going to be based off the mod community. Who's best fixes will come from the mod community, and has zero online/group content. Is a better purchase then something that has Multiple story lines, Group content, and a team dedicated to making content and bug fixes.

Trust me I know its fun but its not worth 60 bucks like other MMOs it should have stuck to 39-49 bucks.

what new AAA pc game thats released nowadays isn't $60?
0 mmo's this is the first. Always felt single player= 60... mmo with sub = 50
This.
Frankly, I believe the price reflects their confidence in the game: IE, none. They are attempting to recoup development costs before people run out of content 6 weeks in and things bomb like Warhammer.

I dont think you have played any of the elder scrolls, because just because you beat the game with one char and took one road doesnt mean that there isnt 100s of other ways to see altering situations as you go throug out the world.
If you really wanna talk about that, VOs they dont really mean anythign in SW, you can make what ever dicission you want but does it reflect the story? No.

Yea same here in Poland.
PC games are cheaper than console ones, simply because when selling a console game, certain % goes to Microsoft or Sony.
That's why consoles cost few hundred bucks max, and not 1000$ + cause Sony / MS earn money on every game sold by others on their consoles.
So if someone sell PC game version at same price as same game for Xbox / PS, then dear PC user you're getting scr**ed.
Just for info cause nowadays many ppl don't know that. (it was common knowegedle in PS1 times...)
I really wanted this game but even the cheapest one is 60 bucks and thats without goodies on a preorder. The collectors edition with all the goodies, 150 bucks, wow! Theres no way I can pay for this, even relatives wont spend this much for a xmas gift on me. The sub seems reasonable, I guess I have to wait to get this.... /sad
Almost all games are 60 bucks... No preorder or collector's edition gift item has ever been worth a crap in the history of mmos. Pay 150 if you want the darth vader statue or whatever the heck they are schlepping.

I will play no more MMORPGs until somethign good comes out!
Not sure about your US prices, but I payed 50€ for swtor, I payed 50€ for rift too. It seems to be the standard of MMO's in the EU region. I know that the US to EU price conversion is usually enough to drive anyone insane, but 50 or 60 dollars really isn't much to argue about. I bet you spend more then that a week on eating out or snacks.

Wonder what the amount would be adjusted for inflation.....
According to an inflation calendar 50 in 1990 would be $82.33 today!

Voila!
59.99 on my 2004 world of warcraft standard edition box....
