I ususally buy almost every MMO and some others like The elder scroll series, battlefield series all CE just for a cool toys that come along with and the POSTERS!, but this one will be a pass. Most MMOs in the past before this game and probably in the future 39.99 normal box, and around 70ish to 80 dollars CE, never seen these prices before.
So the $150.00 CE SWTOR isn't worth it? The Elder Scrolls Skyrim is the same price on the CE version and you get two or three little things? Sorry your post makes no sense.
You forget that skyrim is truely a great game and for me a hardcore fan of the elder scroll series that was a must have. This one just does not make sense. I guess if you slap Star wars on water bottles you can charge 10 bucks for it too.
Special pleading is a logical fallacy. Nice try. Gushing that "Skyrim is truely[sic] a great game" doesn't make the fact that you happily fork over a $149 for that CE while complaining that the same priced CE for SWTOR is unreasonable any less absurd.
I never heard of that game until this thread. It looks like it has potential though. Todd McFarlane on artwork, and some devs from Oblivion and others from God of War trying to make a game that puts the styles of game together as one. The game will be either be epic, or epic fail....

has no one heard ever of inflation? Eventually prices go up as the dominant currency, in this case the dollar, gets weaker. Want to know why it is $60? Look at the state of economics for the last few years.
pretty much it.
I remember paying 40-50 bucks a pop for orginal nintendo games when they were first released.. so really the prices haven't gone up that much at all considering how much more goes into games these days
so true. What year are you talking about and we can see. I think there is something like a 10 dollar difference between today and 2004.
that was like in the late 80's.. i remember the "BIG" games generally cost 40-50 then the lesser ones for about 25-30
If that's the case then games really haven't gone up enough to keep in line with inflation. My guess is that there is a perceived price point that has been keeping AAA games at around the same price for years.
A 30.00 game in 1989 would be about 52.00 today.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
For all players who paid $150 for this game ... See ya a month from now after you realize how much you wasted on this game. EA wont care though since they already made triple the normal cost for an MMO cause Star Wars fans are .. well, you know.
Can you show me the math you used to calculate an average launch price of $29.99 for MMORPGs, with sources, and adjusted for inflation?
Its called budgeting son, you've had THREE YEARS to save up. Do you smoke? Do you drink pop? Chew gum? Go to the movies? Quit spending your dough on other stuff you dont need to spend it on and it should be easy. How many other games have you purchased in the last 3 years? My 9 year old with a 5 dollar allowance could have saved up for this game if he wanted it bad enough.
Also, $60 is nothing in gameworld. It's average. Tell us, what premiere games have you paid less for lately?

Maybe others who gets the CE is also hardcore fan for Star Wars and love the game as well?
In the same logic, you can slep a TES on anything and charge crazy amount for it too ?
*watches the dragon fly backward*
I guess we will see how long the enthusiasm last with this one lol. I am just saying you cannot compare a Great title to a regular run of the mill mmo whose only inovation is VO.
what new AAA pc game thats released nowadays isn't $60?
0 mmo's this is the first. Always felt single player= 60... mmo with sub = 50
I'm pretty sure I paid $60 for the Rift Pre-Order and that was the regular version... kind of sad since they give Rift away for free now..... I think I also paid $60 for Aion pre-order...
If you can wait 6 month the price will probably drop some...
I know for a fact that Age of Conan, EQ2, Warhammer Online, pretty much any AAA MMO cost $50 few years back, but now everyone is pretty much charging $60 for new games... Consoles started doing this couple years ago.... $60 is now the normal price for games...

yea there's a point were games will cost just to much if they followed inflation.. I feel $60 is going to be the norm for big games for many years to come.
Maybe its an American thing but over here in the UK games do not average at $60, even when converted to British pounds. Sure big blockbusters like Modern Warfare have costed more on the PS3/360, but pc games are always cheaper over here and not only that, MMO's are cheaper still. Ive bought my fair share of MMO's from the shops and i remember seeing Rift on sale in game and that was £30-ish. £45 is virtually unheard of for a MMO or a pc game in Britain. Hope this isn't going to be the trend or ill be waiting for the prices to plummet from now on.
See this is what I am talking about, I have never seen a "MMO" for 60 bucks.
Thats because TOR is the first to charge that much. Console games yes $60 and the PC version has been $50. An MMO has never cost $60 until now.
Funny thing is, there shouldn't be a reason to change it.
Thats crazy!!! Does make coffee for you while you're playing to help you stay awake? You get a solid gold figurine, what?? I mean its gotta come with something. Hell, I don't even know much about the game, but I'm gonna have to check it out just to see what it is. Is it an MMO that I'm not aware of??
No but the production run is LIMITED and you get autographs by either Seth McFarlane (spawn), R.A. Salvatore (writer), or Curt Shilling (baseball player). That's kinda bad arse if you ask me. Not 275 bad arse. But still those aren't small fry names.
I am from Boston and all I have to say is "ewwwww" @ Curt Shilling.
Waiting for- Tera, Jumpgate Evo, WH40K, WWE, WOD, TSW -- -- "Hey, if Activision liked it, then they should have put a ring on it," Double Fine President Tim Schafer said. "Oh great, now Beyonce is going to sue me too."
Methinks the younger crowd is finally getting their first taste of supply and demand economics 101.
What? Makes no sense, a digital copy and the current times :P. There is no supply/demand on a downloaded digital copy. It's called inflation and greed.

Yeah Rift was like $63 pre-order. Worth every penny even though I only played for 4 months.

Except that 'x' amount of servers able to hold 'x' amount of people without going nuts at start = certain amount of unique accounts tied to that server. Digital demand is downloading from said server/s, depleting bandwidth and possibly bottlenecking in regions. While it seems there is endless supply, there really isn't. Add to that the fees of administering those accounts/ profits the company needs to please investors even per download, etc. Costs start adding up even for digital downloads. So again, supply and demand come into play.
Edit* Yes, I design data centers for a living so I know a little something about what it takes to push an online product to market.

I agree with others that its quite expensive for a subbased game, but you have to stay realistic. Its a highly anticipated MMO using the SW franchise, so they can ask high prices for it. Enough people will buy it.
EDIT: Actually, when I saw others mention Rift's pricedrop it made me realise that you basically pay for your impatience. If you are willing to wait, itll get cheaper. Although in the case of this EA/Star Wars combo, it might take somewhat longer then usual.
Because they can. If people can't afford it then they don't want your broke-ass anyway. At least, that's how EA views it. And those counting on a drop in price shouldn't count on it until holiday season next year, at the soonest. Most likely price drop will come with first EP. This game will be very popular for at least a year or so.

good point.
You mean, except for the people who own stock in EA and inflation, right?
The reason is simple, because EA/Bioware knows that some people will pay that much for the game,
while others will wait until the price drops<-,I'm one of those.
Is all about the benjamins baby, for some developers and publishers of course.
I am from Boston and all I have to say is "ewwwww" @ Curt Shilling.
I'm interested in this game, but no way in hell I'm shelling 275.00 bucks for this.
I"ll get the standard edition, good enough for me.
NES games were 50 bucks back in 1989
This, it's EA. This is the first MMO to release at $60 unfortunately.. so now a new trend will start with the sales figures obviously .

depends on game.. some of the crappy no name ones were less.. but the big titles like zelda and such were 50
