I wont be resubbing my self becouse i started playing on the 13th, i got my 1st level 50 a day before release and to cap a char so fast tells me in a month ill be bored of the game.

To have a level 50 so fast, you would have had to play 8+ hours a day and skip all dialogue. I honestly don't understand why anyone would play a game like SWTOR this way... To each their own I suppose. Good luck finding a game you don't burn through super quickly playing like you do. I suggest Darkfall, it has an incredible grind.
I am sorry you don't enjoy the game OP. Still, it has been quite obvious that the game would be very heavily based on storyline and would be themepark since EARLY development. It makes me wonder why you even tried it considering the fact that you are burnt out on this type of game...
Good luck on your sandbox games. I hope you find something you really enjoy!
Why does someone "have" to be relegated to sandbox games if they get tired of the traditional, extremely narrow, WoW-themepark formula?
WoW came out in 2004, and more recent themepark games (WAR, Rift, Aion, SWTOR) have not made any major changes to the formula Blizz originally came up with. I for one would like to just see a GAME, themepark, sandbox, or otherwise that tries to do something DIFFERENT. Just different from WoW, nothing really specific, just give a different experience from the typical:
SWTOR is not a themepark MMOG. SWTOR is an hybrid between a SPG and an themepark MMOG.
No, its a themepark mmorpg. It has everything that every other themepark mmorpg has.
When I played the beta weekend, the story, voice acting, and even the companion to some extent made it a little more than just another themepark. It simply didn't grab me with $60 worth of more.
I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy, accompanied by an educational system which would be oriented toward social goals.

Some people like Korean Grinders. My guess is the guy who capped his character that fast would enjoy a game Like Aion or one of the other games that takes hundreds of hours to make it out of the starting zone. That is great for them that they have the time to do it, but I do understand that if you play a game so much that you will get bored of it quicker than those who don't play the game every waking moment of their day. Do I understand it? No I don't, but hey go figure. Your suggestion for Darkfall is the best as someone told me that you have to grind at that game like cutting a piece of steel with a soft bristle toothbrush.

I am sorry that you think WoW invented any style of game. However Blizzard did no such thing, and has yet to do anything that hasn't originated elseware. Bioware is atleast innovative within their design.

Some of us sandbox lovers would regard that as a promotion not a relegation
It's just a shame the only good sandbox game out there currently is Eve, and the idea behind Eve bores me to death. I loved UO back in the day and wish a game came out that captured that kind of magic. Darkfall and Mortal fell on their faces hard however so I feel that they have done a lot of harm to the idea of "Sandbox" MMos. They are hard to implement due to the simple fact (What is the purpose of this game; nothing). I think that the idea behind a Sandbox MMo will eventually play out and be great but there are a lot of obsticles to overcome for them.
SWTOR does a good job at providing a directed, fun, and rather open enviornment to live and explore The Old Republic. I think those people who are not fans of Star Wars will not be fans of this game regardless of its game design. Bioware created a masterpiece for a launched product and I give them props on that however in the game industry you will never please anyone.
For example I think the Halo series, Modern Warfare series, Madden series, etc... are all complete jank and garbage. I also don't play sports games or first person shooters. I do however love strategy games and fighting games therefor I would sacrifice my left nut for SF4 with how good it is. It all comes down to taste and people who diss games because they are not the game genre they like should just move on and not waste their time. It doesn't serve a purpose in the end besides being an intentional or accidental troll.

3. Talent trees.
4. Trinity.
5. Dungeons.
6. Raids.
Clearly that is what the OP wants. There is only so much that can be done with the themepark game design. Bioware did do things differently by adding the story element with variable choices and light-side/dark-side points. Not to mention companions and an entirely new approach to crafting. Its not like they copied the formula exactly... even though that is what so many people keep saying over and over again.
If you want something radically different, I don't think its a stretch to say you want a sandbox game instead. That would be the only type of MMORPG that would in no way resemble a themepark.
Some people just don't like certain types of games. I am not a big fan of FPS games like MW3 or Battlefield 3, so I don't play them. It wouldn't make much sense for me to purchase one of these games and then go on the forums for their fans and complain about how similar they are to other first person shooters would it? It would be foolish of me to expect the game to be radically different from other games of its type... even though I'm sure there are some innovations that set these titles apart from their peers. Such is the way in every genre (and sub-genre) of games.
It all comes down to taste and people who diss games because they are not the game genre they like should just move on and not waste their time. It doesn't serve a purpose in the end besides being an intentional or accidental troll.
Then don't bother with forums if that's all you want to see. It does serve a purpose because it shows differing opinions amongst those that are playing the game and allows them to debate the issues. Might as well say those that are enjoying the game shouldn't bother posting either.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
SWTOR is not a themepark MMOG. SWTOR is an hybrid between a SPG and an themepark MMOG.
Seriously people, trying to claim that SWTOR is not an MMORPG just makes you sound ignorant. You don't have to like the game, and we definitely don't want you playing it, but at least try to make an intelligent argument if you want to talk badly about a game.
Only had to watch a Youtube with STWOR beta to refuse subbing at all. Saw one getting a quest to go killling 10 mobs. Allright this same stuff all over again, no thanks.
Please game developers come up with some new spectacular idea.
EVE is a lot of fun, and should hold a lot of people off until GW2. GW2 will completely change the scene because it will encourage grouping, and the world wont feel dead.
The reason I am not resubbing is that I am so burned out on theme park games that I don't think I can play them anymore. The do this, do that, to ride our roller coaster and do what everyone else is doing just doesn't appeal to me anymore. I was hoping that my interest would hold...because I did spend serious money to play this game.
I do plan on at least playing till my subscription ends.
I have already returned to EVE, where I am the CEO of a small time mining operation...
I was also dissapointed in MW3 because I thought it was going to be a roleplaying game, turns out it's a retro shooter.

How does being a hybrid between an SPG and a themepark MMORPG make it not be an MMORPG?
Personally, I think the statement is fairly accurate. SWTOR takes a lot of elements from BW SPRPG like KOTOR and merges them with a lot of elements from WoW. This, in no way, makes it "not an MMORPG." It is still an MMORPG, but it DOES take a lot of elements from an SPRPG.
If you deny this...then I think you are smoking crack or you never played the game.

Depends on what you consider an MMORPG. If your only requirement is that 1000+ people connect to same server then yes it is an MMORPG and so is Star Trek Online, Guild Wars etc
However for me, an MMORPG needs to somehow have massively amounts of people interacting in a meaningful way and Themeparks are already weak in this area and SW:TOR continues this trend by completely instancing your characters main storyline in a way that it is somehow completely detached from the other thousand people on the server.
This is what I would call SORPG or MORPG. It is online but the experience is mostly single player or limited multiplayer, in no way is it massive. The only exception to this I guess is that endgame PvP zone which has a cap of 200 people which could potentially fight it out against each other. Other than that I cant see anything else which could be considered Massively Multiplayer experience.
First, I would like to say that I have been a life long Star Wars Fan, and I have even read quite a few of the novels.
Second, surprsingly the not awesome graphics of STWOR does not bother me.
Third, I did enjoy the effort of being story line based.
Fourth, I don't mind the instancing or the fact that I always seem to be the only person I see...of course, this may change today...and after christmas it will even become more crowded I assume.
Fifth, the crafting is easy and I barely really have to do anything.
The reason I am not resubbing is that I am so burned out on theme park games that I don't think I can play them anymore. We'll see many more of these posts as time goes one. Huge hype for a game that brings nothing new to the table except graphically out-dated cut-scenes and linear gameplay. Its Bioware not sure what you all expected lol.
Another IP goes to waste to the themepark crowd so they can run around like lemmings making the dev team rich rofl... Thanks Turbine / EA / Bioware!!
mmo's are like a lesser version of zelda games (meaning the game isn't as thoroughly covered over with its quests and using an environment with many people as a substitute)

I get the feeling im playing single player as i don't see any people,
it's all so so instanced (even more so then other new mmo's)
Then theres the 1-3hr cues been going on from the pre-order 13th till todays launch 20th,
Plus i've only seen 1 of 66 guild mates & then theres the cinematic...
The cinematics alone call into question this 'single player' feature with co-op controls, as it
causes issues with some players wanting to watch & others spamming 'spacebar'.
Its a single player in a co-op/mmg build, its not a 'proper mmo' imo ...neither was.... APB,
STO, WoT... this seems to be a new genre of mmo's as such 'Watered down themparks'
Theres no new fatures or innovation to boast about this game, its just another 'meh' mmo
but with a MASSIVE IP
