I think that the MMO genre is splitting up into 2 new branches right now. One with TOR that is using a lot of instances and are kinda somewhere in between MMORPGs and CORPGs, and another one with GW2 that instead try to use scaling to bring out massive non instanced battles.
That does not mean that one of those things are better than the others, just different.
I can actually see myself play both those games, they offer different aspects of a MMO but as long as they offer it good it is all fine.
City of Heroes has instancing and it came out before WoW.
The problem ISNT the instancing itself but how the game handles it. In TOR the split up seems to be a tremendously small amount and with the world being so big it creates an empty world feeling. Bioware said this was done so people wouldnt be stepping on each other while doing quests but they went a bit too far with this. They said as the game goes on the instancing will be cut down which is good but..................... they better do this before the first month of free play is up because some people are really having a problem with this and im sure they are not going to stick around until they eventually.
ummm cabal does it similar you must be high level to faction pvp.....
Yes true in the star wars universe man a time combat was not always done by masters, see darth maul vs obi one or obi one vs aniken skywalker, however allowing high level players to just openly go hunt lowbee players is just wrong as with level comes gear as well as upgraded skills and powers which in turn leads to a massive inbalanced in combat so the fact they level the playing ground on level requirement seems like a fair thing.

Im sure it will do fine.... better than Rift did actually but number one probably not.
This is the truest quote Ive ever seen on the forums. Perfectly put, and its going to be a very accurate prediction.
This game will not fail. It will be around for a long time. Galaxies is a good example. Heck even it went on for years. So will this. Even bad or unpopular mmorpgs have their run. Whats more, in time, this game will be improved. Thats a certainty. How much or how little remains unkown. It might be an entirely different game two years from now, or just improved upon slightly.
One day I might even pick it up. But having played Beta, I wont be getting it any time soon. But people are enjoying and will continue too. Its not number one. Yet. And i dont believe that can be achieved in its current state. But there is time. Those that have bought it and are playing now, which are so many people, have helped ensure things improve and only get better with their purchase. At least hopefully thats the case. Bioware is now raking in a fair sum of change. And they will continue to do so. Lets hope they do good things with it in regards to further work and development. I have no doubt they will.

10 thumbs up for that, coudln't agree more!
I feel it's more like people are tired of riding the same roller costers that SWTOR offers, while SWTOR makes the roller coaster more appealing then others, it's still the same ride. Some want to try some other kind of rides in the themepark and hoping that GW2 offers a different kind of ride that doesn't feel like the same roller coster. In the end it may just be another roller coaster but as long as it feel like a different kind of ride then it's worth riding. That's probably the same reasoning why people are interested in ArcheAge, cause it seems to offer a different type of roller coaster ride and that's what we want.
The only thing that bothers me is that u have to reach lvl 50(if im not mistaken) in order to see in open world opossite faction players. This is very sad.
This is rather unaccurate as of today on my server. We are spotting level 30 open world PVP now on the contested worlds, and I wouldn't be surprised for it to go even lower since there are planets that are considered "Contested".
A few days ago, Yeah, it was kinda rare because the only people who were level 30 and above where the people who grinded 4-5 days nonstop. so Having extremely low population above level 30 will mean almost no contact with eachother.
I think he means, world shard instancing, which is totally different from WoW's dungeon instancing. World shard instancing places members of the same faction into different "channels" and if you join a group, you have to be 1: in the same phased shard or 2: change to the shard that the other players are in which can be a pain. DCUO, STO and such games use this to help with server lag. I think tho it can be a problem for those who have never used this before.
LOL love the reference to Anet that was great! CanNOT wait for their beta and game launch it will be awesome!
Yeah it's funny that they actually messed this up so bad, now I've read today that players are ALREADY asking for new content after reaching 50 on their mains. Was it really finished i have to ask since it hasn't even been a week and already they are wondering where the new content is. Wow that's amazingly shortsighted of a company as big as Bioware. Didn't they have the backing of Lucas Arts money? Yeah i wonder where all that went because apparently it didn't go into servers and content that's for sure.
Just another reason i'm sticking to my guns and waiting patiently for the real next gen mmo. GW2
what i find most funny, it's that the forums of any and i mean ANY site, on the internet are flooded with hate topic/blog/rewiev that just tear apart the game in any department;graphic sucks,VO is retarded, worlds are empy, bioware fail, game gonna lasts2 months etc
Than i realize im reading opinion of ppl that don't even have scratch a dent on the surface of the game, heck im playing a lot and i just end the first chapter of my char yesterday, and really, it was EPIC.

You're absolutely right. Noone who has a problem with TOR has really played the game. I mean it hasn't even been available for weeks, or even months yet. Unless you count beta, and early access, and now launch. But really, what does that really amount to? These people simply haven't played the game, because no one who has played TOR could think anything but rainbows about it. It's just that good.
Well, it's been going for more than six months soooo...good luck with that.
Probably will not end until the GW2 bashing gets up to speed. July, maybe.
Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.

You are so 'absolutly' wrong. I play the game and consider game lacking in many ways. I'm at lvl 27 and I have yet to meet opposing player in open world, why do they even bothered to split servers between PvP and PvE ? So far there is exactly zero open world pvp for me, again why it is this server marked as PVP ?. Then there is user interface, AH (or galactic market for those for who swtor is apparetly first mmo...) interface is realy atrocious, missing LFG tool is shocker for AAA mmo game. Seriously go to find some free trial to rift to see how it CAN be done by noname studio ... PvP queue where i cant choose which pvp area i want to play (why always huttball seriously ...), 4 player groups - well if you dont want to heal or tank (and personaly after years of playing healer i wanted to play dps) i have realy realy hard time to find group for instance due one less spot for dps in group ...
The game so far feels much more like CRPG than MMORPG, yes i like the story for my class and thats the main reason i still play it, but mmo feel is simply not there, will see if it changes on lvl cap.
The old argument concerning WoW eventually being beaten is over used. I think people who genuinly believe its 10 million subs are going to be sapped by new MMO's in 2012 are being overly optimistic. WoW is no longer an MMORPG as we know it, its a MMOCRPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Casual Role Playing Game) that has celebrities like Chuck Norris advertising for it. MMORPG players are, and always will be a niche in the market. Sure, the surge of games and new players looks impressive, but its nothing in comparison to the sheer volume of casual players who don't want to spend hours and hours to make progress in a game, but still want the online experience. Well, WoW offers that, and it always will, and constantly makes it easier for people to jump in and play an hour or two, maybe do a dungeon, get an achievement..
If SWTOR genuinly wants to do that, its going to have to cater to the casuals which would dissapoint the people who thought this was going to be THE MMO of all time.
Blizzard is here to stay, its not going to be toppled any time soon, but that doesn't mean you can't all enjoy the games you do. No game has spend its life in WoW's shadow, because quite frankly most MMORPG's are in their own league whilst WoW sits in its own unique one. Let it rest, stop your bickering and simply enjoy the game without taking subs into account.
It's really a shame to see a once great company like Bioware get boughten out and lose it's creative drive. It happens though.
I think once huge figures of money come into the picture it's easy for owners to just hand over the reins to executives and spend some quality time with their families or mistresses.
It's obvious to me that once EA bought Bioware the owners of Bioware checked out or were compeletely clueless about the mmo market.
If there is one thing that will really put the nail in the coffin of Swtors..........too much instancing. Is there one popular mmo that uses heavy instancing?
Even Arenanet knows not to remake GW1.
R U HIGH ? I don't know what game you are playing but this game is the shit.

The only reason this forum hate WoW so much is all their negativity in the world couldnt destroy it, You posters disgust me the way you constanly go out of your way to make sure new games fail. Im probably not gonna come here anymore unless the crap gets cleaned up. Negativity breed Negativity and this website has a big issue with it.

Lol you really can tell the WoW players when they come on here saying wheres my lfg tool, dungeon finder ect.
For christ sake guys use your gen chat and be polite and ask for help or ask if you can help and actually go to the area and put up LFG you may be suprised at how easy it is to get help in this great game.
